As I said, it's hard to argue with such a successful branding strategy, whether I like it or not. I think some people miss the fact that it is just advertising.

I know it's not an MMO at the moment. However, many didn't start out that way and grew to become just that. Yes, if I could afford Bootcamp I'd have it. Still - those things tend to have stability issues (I had Parallels - don't get me started). The ideal would be for these companies to just make their games Mac compatible as well. What - are we still in the 90's??

My copy plays fine on my Mac.

People on both sides make false accusations in this thread, and the aggressive irrationality can also be found in the many replies to those Mac elitists. I usually try to keep out of this crap and I hate Mac evangelism as much as most PC users, however I happen to have a Mac here and I'm just getting mad about some of the pointless accusations thrown at Mac users in general. I'm not an evangelist, I also used to build PCs for gaming and liked them, but I can't deny I have a few reasons to like my Mac too and I take a few of the comments here personal, even if they were directed at others. So, in a way, the attitude of some Mac users ruins my mood on some boards, because they make a silly remark about Macs being totally über, they get flamed for it with a good reason, but the replies of the PC folks are of a similar stupidity that makes me step in and make my comments again. Gah.
If we could just get back to the issue of porting the game over now... if enough Mac users are interested and EA is aware of it, they'll get a port. Simple as that. EA throws a lot of AAA games on the Mac side, sadly it's mostly stuff like the Sims, Harry Potter or Call of Duty, but after enough Mac users asked for it NWN2 was ported too, so why not trying it. Personally, I'm happy with Windows gaming and couldn't care less for a Mac port, but I'm a happy supporter of those who ask. Just stop making a stupid flamewar out of it, if you start your request with pointing out the superiority of your system, you will get flamed, hell, that's the most simple rule and yet still nobody gets it...

For someone who "I Quote" Stays out of these discussions are sure are posting a lot. People are not making false accusations they are just saying how they feel about this thread. I for one have owned both and really don't see much difference between the 2 but, Macs costing more and keep u  limited to proprietary hardware. I seriously don't care if it get ported to Macs, I just don't see why when you can just install Windows on any Mac if you really wanted to play Dragon Age that bad.

Haven't even read the thread and I can predict what 80% of it involves--no one listening to anyone, on either side. Example:

Mac would probably CHARGE them to use any dev tools they have for OSX games.

Xcode is free. It's Visual Studio that costs money.

Anyway, I'm on a Mac, playing Dragon Age: Origins in Boot Camp. It'd be great to be able to play it on the Mac side, but I'm not holding my breath.

Even if they do make a Mac version (as they have with nearly every other game they've produced) I may still end up getting the PC version and playing it in Boot Camp.  It depends on availability of the toolset which is the only reason I'm even considering purchasing a copy for my computer.  Otherwise I'm satisfied with the PS3 version that I'm currently playing.

Hear, hear. The more the Mac users speak up, the more software gets made for Macs, the more people use Macs... all a virtuous cycle!

For the record, I think PCs remain a better gaming platform, due to DirectX (correct me if I'm wrong, I believe OSX uses OpenGL or something else entirely?). As an earlier poster said - hardware-wise, there is no real difference between a high-end MacPro and a high-end gaming PC desktop. The MacPro does cost more.

I think reducing this thread to yet another Mac vs. PC flamewar is just unproductive. They are different systems, each with its advantages and disadvantages. I use both (PC for gaming, Mac for everything else). I tend to get more work done on the Mac, quicker, despite the fact that I have used PCs for something like 20 years, and Macs for 3 years. By work I mean everything from web design to coding to data analysis.

Isn't it rediculous how Mac users think that their machines are so superior and how they feel so high and mighty over PC users, and then suddenly they realize "oh, games are played on Windows!".

Now that Mac is a PC as well, and it runs a PC operating system (Linux), things may change, but either you install Windows on your Mac or you live with the consequences of your silly choice of platform. ;)

It's just a simple truth that Macs are better quality in the long run.

I'd rather pay now than pay later with cheaply built, inferior quality that requires constant maintenance.

Please.  Tell that to my wife, who is now on her 3rd Macbook in 4 years because of its flat-out poor hardware quality.  Even after the usual Mac hard-drive armageddon, the actual casing on each of her macbooks would start falling apart in a year.  Those machines are built to be disposed.

Well its because your wife has the white macbook. The one that is cheap for students.  If she had put a little more money to get one with an aluminum casing it would've have lasted years and years no problem. Mac or not you get what you pay for. She paid for the cheap one and it doesn't last long enough... To me there is no surprise there. Its a very cheap computer that one, they don't sell it anymore thought.

Omitting the white macbook for students that doesn't exist anymore, Macs are overall better quality. I bought my Mac pro quadcore 3 years ago for 2000 canadian running great and no problem today. I am getting 7.1 score in windows 7 with a 3 year old computer !!! 2k is expensive but over 3+ years that investment is not that expensive anymore. Try to do that with a 3 year old PC. It will have failed by then !

Need I remind you of the categorical statement I was responding to?:  "It's just a simple truth that Macs are better quality in the long run."

After realizing this is a ridiculous statement, you now make the remarkable claim that the "Macs" in your decree clearly excludes their mainstream products.  Of course we can't judge Mac by their base, mainstream notebooks!  That would be absurd.  No, We must only judge Mac by their $2000 top-of-the-line notebook.   The irony is, that thing still loses in comparison to my Envy 15.   ;)

And the HP notebook I've just replaced still works fine, and has always been faster than my wife's macbook, and is almost 4 years old -- an age that her machines could never even hope to achieve.

If the aim was to brand as over-priced, aimed at elitist idiots and whatever else people flame about Macs / Mac owners then yes, an incredibly successful branding strategy.

Yeah, that's the constant battle cry of the PC set. "Of course it doesn't have any of those! Why make the minority suffer if you can make the majority suffer?" Meanwhile, we Mac users just sit back and grin.

Sit back and grin because you can't do anything else except make spreadsheets.

spreadsheets!!!! wooooo! and they're mac spreadhseets, which makes them cool, right? oh well. i'll just have to suffer with excel. oh yeah, and play dragon age. Image IPB

I laugh at the Mac Boi/PC ads because they ARE pretty funny.

Then I laugh even harder as I load up DA on my PC.

To be honest though, that's a pretty good advertising campaign from Apples point of view. They really dont care about winning us PC/Gamers over because they know they can't.

What they are shooting for are those who are fairly ignorant about computers in general but really care about what brand clothes they wear, if the car they drive is 'greener' than the next door neighbors or worried that their circle of friends looks down on anyone using a PC as unhip. The image conscious are the biggest suckers on the face of the earth. Those of us who use PC's and build rigs know where the game is at and it is not Mac by any of the furthest stretch of imagination.

In that very same quote I said why I don't stay out of the discussions too. In half of those posts I'm reading I'm a complete idiot just because I happen to own a Mac, in the other half there's bull**** about Steve Jobs personally charging game developers for developing Mac games or whatever... and yeah, that triggers a reply, even though it's probably pointless. And now the discussion has again reached the "there's a backdoor in Safari" or "I saw a Mac crashing last week" point... :P

Yeah, Mac users are so elitist. Unlike those of great wisdom and integrity that can tell so much about a person they don't know based solely on what brand of computer they own. It's a hardware company, not a status symbol. If you believe differently, who's the gullible one?

dragonage.bioware.com/game/preorder/

Looks like I'll have the option to play it natively on my Mac.
