So I'm on the missing scientist mission with my infiltrator on Hardcore.

The base is the standard copy/pasted set up, but I can't seem to be able to kill the mercenaries. My team mates, being the tactical geniuses they are, get themselves killed immediately, and alone, I just don't seem to dent them. I'll shoot them with my pistol or rifle and get their health relatively low, but then they'll turn on immunity and retreat back behind cover until their entire health returns. I can't go after them because then their friends will be very happy to se me.

Any suggestions? (I know I can just run through them and skip to the end of the level, but I'd rather at least try to beat them.)

wait, the UNC: Dead Scientists? So you cleared the mercs outside and are having trouble inside the base?

Lift, warp, neural charge thing from kaidan. Lifting an enemy seems to postpone the time it turns on immunity, so if you can warp bomb it, and continue to shoot it while lifted you should have an easier time of it.

What level are you? Do you have good equipment?

For the fight, I'd suggest bringing some biotics to bare so that you and your squad don't give the enemy many opportunities to use Immunity.

So a mix of Wrex as the tank and Liara or Kaidan as the controller could work since you are an Infiltrator.

Also you could try to use a mix of Tali or Kaidan and Liara for CC from both tech and biotics with you as the tank, with your immunity and pistol you should be fine, but you would need to have invested in Tali's basic armor to at least 6 or 7 and be around level 30+ to have a good amount of skill points in the more useful skills for yourself and the squad.

If you got points to spend for your squad here is a suggestion for how to eventually build up your squad:

Edit: gah, hit enter too soon.

Yep if you're playing on higher difficulties (hardcore or insane) biotic crowd control begins to become much more important. If you can lock down an enemy they never get to activate immunity. Lift and singularity are really your friends there. Don't forget that you can post the squad mates to keep them in cover.

I'd mostly agree with Praetor Shepard though.

If you still find it too rough, you can always leave and come back later, after you've leveled up some more.

Yeah, i know my ideal squad would be Liara and Wrex (even though Liara can't use stasis without the glitch showing up) but I actually have th not so great squad of Ash and Garrus, ie no biotics, because I'm getting the ally achievements. I guess I'll just come back at a higher level.
