Mr Gaider theres a difference between returning characters and bringing possibly dead characters back from the dead...I'm guessing the rage over the US ret-con wasn't a clear enough signal that this is a bad idea.

That's not the same thing at all. The US in Awakening was unfortunate and unintended, but we didn't even try to explain that in the story. It was simply your choice whether you chose to import that ending or not, and wasn't the best situation all around.

I didn't give a crap about Merrill or Isabella because they were such small characters. In fact I played the Dalish origin once...and only once...so I totaly forgot she existed until she was announced...then I had to look her up on the DA Wiki and said to myself "huh...I don't remember her at all"...but Anders?...seriously?...I can understand the possible camo if he DIDN'T die...like Wrex for example...but a Companion!? Geez...this is outrageous as far as I'm concerned. I feel like this is turning into Dragonball Z where death means absolutly nothing.

...whereas Anders' presence is utterly intended, and explained. You may not like the explanation, granted, but you also don't even know what it is. And considering his death (or lack thereof) happened in an epilogue, one you weren't even present to witness, I'll chalk up your "outrage" to being a bit of exaggeration. We are not resurrecting people left and right. You will see.

You just got me even more excited.

Well there goes the second half of my second semester in college. *goes to drop out*

Well, what is the actual size and population of Thedas? Maybe it is a small world.

Well for me personaly add to it that Anders was not that original of a character to begin with. I mean he is just Alistair as a mage. But I go back to what I said before. I think if they had left it with Isabella I would have been fine with it. But then to add Merril and Anders is just to much. Give us new characters to play with. In all honesty any companion characters should have been new characters in my perfect world. We already played with Anders. If I want to use him I'll go play Awakaning again.

How is he Alistair??  I see this all the time and it drives me batty.  He had some snarky humor, but so what, a lot of the characters do.  Other than this and a passing physical resemblance what makes him at all like Alistair?

You cannot please the masses.

Well I can't speak for "the masses" but I was always an advocate of "Change". I don't care if we ever see the Warden again or any of the companions...it's a new story...I kinda expected more new faces... not so many companions/characters from DAO/A.

People want new characters, I know I do, especially considering we only get 6 companions in the base game. Merril and Isabella were fine because they were so minor but Anders is close to being the equal of having one of the DAO companions return. They look to have put an interesting twist on Anders however which mitigates the situation to a certain extent.

I'm not sure how Anders is that close to being the equal of having one of the DAO companions return; after all, he was present in what for many people was a 15 hour expansion pack, versus a 50 hour game for the Origins companions.  15 hours isn't enough time to fully flesh out a character in the DA universe.  That's just my opinion, however.

This made me think.

Unhardened Alistar- Has to be led like a puppy

Our Dear Anders- Escaped the Circle Seven times. The man can think for himself.

I consider him Alistair 2.0....Mage Mode!...and Velanna? Morrigan 2.0...Elf Mode!

I agree completely!

I don't even think they have a physical resemblance, honestly. What, all white blonde guys look alike? Anders doesn't even have the same complexion as Alistair. I think it's just because they have very similar voices and both like poking fun at themselves from time to time. That's all I can think of. Even Anders' humor doesn't strike me as too similar to Alistair's, since Anders was pretty flirty and Alistair was so very not.

Edited because good grief I use 'honestly' too much. ::cough::

Which keeper? You mean the one tuvok voiced? Because the only party members that would know the warden would be merril, anders, and isabelle.

The Keeper from Merril and the Dalish Wardens tribe.  She will be in that game.  Just not a companion.  It was perhapse a poorly worded way of adding another returning character.

Hyperbole? Really? I stated 4 (Anders, Merril, Isabella, and the cameo by Alistair), which to me seems quite a bit considering this is a story set in a different country with a different central character. And I also acknowledged they mostly had small roles, which doesn't dissipate the small world effect. But I apologize, I'll stop questioning your obviously flawless writing talents and decision making which are above critique by mere mortals such as myself.

Oh, please. I'd be fine with critique if it involved anything more than speculation regarding what people are assuming to be true... or if a few characters, some of whom you barely knew and the others who have entirely new stories to tell, showing up in a new story is somehow a tragedy then I don't know what to say, really. You'd think, from some of the comments, that these were the only characters in a story chock full of new characters.

Of course, if we didn't have these characters there'd be an entirely different set of people complaining how it wasn't really a sequel with nothing to tie it to the first-- oh wait, they do that too. Or complaining about it not being the right characters-- wait, got that too.

Yes, I think I'll just go ahead and accept that my "flawless writing talents" will occasionally be questioned.

It's the same thing with Morrigan and Velanna, really. Sure, they're both seemingly unpleasant to be around, but Velanna is VERY different from Morrigan (and this is from someone that dislikes Velanna). She never struck me as a Morrigan clone at all in terms of personality.

Same with Anders & Alistair.

Anyway, I don't see what the big deal is. We hardly got to know Merrill and Isabela, and if your Warden wasn't a Dalish Elf then they wouldn't know Merrill at all. I don't think it'll be a waste to bring back Anders - it seems like they're moving toward developing his character more, here, so it's not like he's going to remain the same dude he was in Awakening. He'll probably at least be handled better than Oghren was.

Of course you're not the masses you're an individual, and individual does not a mass make. Morale of this story is you can never please everyone, EVER, and there will always be threads wishing for contradictory things. Some people want a totally new cast of characters, while some people wish to see their old favorites.

Hence you cannot please the masses. BioWare can only do their best, I find this so far to be a good compromise as one of the people who mourned the change of DA2 from Origins. Perhaps one more hidden companion that's completely new would be nice to add, for variety.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who thinks this.

Honestly, People argue that they look similar, but I... just don't see it?

What I think is that--originally--people WANTED Anders to be like Alistair because they were trying to find 'proof' that he was the third 'long-lost' Theirin brother.  When it was made plainly obvious that Alistair and Anders weren't related, the hype died, but the idea that Anders was still Alistair 2.0 remained.

At least, that's how I see the situation. xD

Alistair vs Anders

They really don't look alike to me.

As for their personalities... I don't really see any similarities beyond, "they are both funny men."  Then again, I've been known to miss stuff before.

This is going to be very much random, but the thing i'm happy the most about as far as re-appearances are concerned is that Sten isn't showing up in DA2. And it's not because i didn't like him or anything like that. Au contraire.
So uhm. well yeah, that's just so there's not only complaints about these decisions Posted Image

I'm just afraid of Anders being like Oghren in Awakening, who seemed to be there just because he could. Plus I'm just naturally cynical.

From what has been discussed, Anders will not be there just to be there. :D But then again, that just my opinion.

Well Anders, unlike Oghren, actually seems to have something of a plot centered around him. Plus, he'll have a whole game (in which he is one of the first companions to be recruited in) to gain some character growth in so I highly doubt he'll remain the same by the end of it.
