The OP is complaining that Hawke is encountering people with two degrees of separation with the Warden.

Two degrees? In number of scenarios these people are direct acquaintances of the Warden.

My assertion is that considering how many places the Warden visted ( Lothering, Denerim, Redcliffe, Ostegar, Orzammar, Brecilian Forest, Vigil's Keep, Wending Wood, Sulcher's Pass, Haven, Amaranthine, Mage's Circle etc. ) and how significant a character the Warden was everywhere they went (Including leading the Ferelden charge against the archdemon ), it is not a stretch to say at least a third, if not more, of Ferelden have met theWarden in some capacity.

Hence Hawke running into people that know the Warden is a likely event, regardless of how small the world the OP seems to think that indicates.

I think your conflict of opinion stems from slightly different focus -- note that you talk how large part of Ferelden have met the Warden in some capacity. While that's highly likely to occur (you know someone who knows someone who knows someone who knows the Warden because they ran into him/her at the market in Denerim) the probability of scenarios of DA2 (you know someone who knows the Warden personally and/or intimately) is much lower, and as number of such --and only such-- instances increases, it becomes harder and harder to believe this could happen.

+10 And Btw that zone is full of people fleeing the blight from Ferelden, is not a huge city like, NY, Toronto, or Quebec, and even tho it was like that, people tent to live close to someone from their region/town/city/cave. Is not hard to find 30 or more than knows, have talk to or heard of a hero fighting a blight and Loghain at the same time.;)

@tmp7704 Yes, two degrees. Warden --> Isabela (1) --> Hawke (2)

Hmm Alodar was talking of "meeting people with two degrees of separation with the Warden". Even your own example shows there's only one degree of separation between the Warden and Isabela. This makes, as you point out, Hawke to be one with two degrees of separation with the Warden, not the people Hawke meets.

Hah, yes, I just re-read that, and I see where the wires got crossed. Alodar mentions two degrees between the Warden and returning characters, while I believe the OP is talking about two between Warden and Hawke. I had the latter stuck in my head. My apologies.

I mean the whole point o DA2 is to travel to an all new land with a new hero to have all new adventures.  However every other person we meets is someone who knew the Warden.  I mean we know that the Keeper and Merril are both back from the Dalish Origin.  Isabella is back from the Pearl.  And Anders from Awakening is back.  Not only that but all three are companions of Hawke!  Way to make everything new....
I mean Bioware has taken the saying 'Its a small world"  and used it as the foundations of expanding their world.
It's like if I moved to Canada tomorrow and every other person I meet knows my neighbor form back in Jersey.

Anders is not a party member. His role is equivalent to Jowan, Zathrian or Teagan.

The other two were forgettable. The Merril in DA2 isn't even the same. She might as well be a whole new character. Not to mention she was only present for about 30 minutes. And Isabella had 10 minutes in Origins.

I guess you haven't read this thread.

Oh, I've seen it.

Oh, you're in denial then. Okay! ^_^

That abomination is not Anders. Although I'm sure he'll pop up from time to time.

haha its so funny to see you throw up another excuse, even after the devs have announced Anders as a party member, even after you said he wasnt going to be a party member, but like Jowan. And if Anders isnt Anders why did they keep him named Anders and not Vengeance after the spirit?

Not sure if you're being sarcastic here, so:
Anders let Justice possess him when his old body decayed too much, but Anders' hate for Templars and such warped Justice into the demon(ish) Vengence.  New persona, more violent.  Now I guess he's a voice in Anders' head telling him to overthrow the Chantry and their control of the Circle.  At least, that's what I got from the introduction.

He was, but when it entered him Anders emotions about the teplars twisted Justice into Vengence. Check out the official site for the info.

I don't think it has anything to do with 'Oh! Imagine running into you! Its such a small world...'.

Keep in mind, all of the characters you pretty much encountered in DA:O & DA:A are SIGNIFICANT to the whole lore of Dragon Age. These are famous players in the world, real power holders.

Connor is the cousin to the former King Cailan (Current King Alistair, if you played it that way), and son of a powerful Arl in Ferelden.

Merrill is a keeper-in-training to a Dalish tribe, which is something like being a powerful mob boss that spits magic, I imagine.

Anders is a Grey Warden who helped save strategic points from the Darkspawn, one of the very few mages capable of escaping the Circle time and time again, and is connected in one way or another with the party who destroyed the sentient Brood Mother & also maybe the Architect (or supported the Architect. Either way, you are gonna be a powerful person).

Justice is a spirit inside a corpse, and the only spirit we've actually encountered in the game. I'm assuming its because they are very rare to present themselves. Justice is special.

And Isabela is a powerful Pirate Queen who is notorious along the seas for her history and connections.

I don't mind Cameos, even if they are in Kirkwall or Ferelden. Its a game that laps over DA:O's own timeline. And I don't mind if they are of characters we ran into in DA:O. They were important characters, ones that had a part in changing the history of Ferelden or are famous in darker circles. It comes to show just how powerful a role Hawke will play, if he's bandied together with that sort.

Why was Connor still called Connor and not named after the Desire spirit?
Why was Uldred still called Uldred and not Pride?
Why is Flemeth still called Flemeth and not whatever the heck is in her?

I have no reason to make any excuse.  It's a video game. Seriously, it's not that big a deal. I saw that article just like everyone else.

The Anders from awakening is gone for the most part, but like Connor he my pop up here and there. Disagree if you like.  When the game is released we'll see who was right and who was wrong.
