Hey thanks for the DRM

So, I'm playing happily through the game, got Starfang, it was awesome. I was really having fun.
This last time, I load up the game, and there's some "blah blah can't be authorized" message. Whatever. It didn't make me do a force load, so I thought everything was fine. I load the game, play for an hour or so, and in my first fight I noticed that my sword is gone. Looked back over my older saves, and they all had the same problem, since I'd always figured I'd just live with any mistakes that took up more than an hour of play so it wasn't worth it to keep old saves around. But that's not the point.
The point is, had I stolen this game, and stolen the downloadable content like plenty are already doing, bypassing with ease the restrictions that your paying customers live with, this wouldn't have happened. The people that are paying you are getting a worse product than your paying customers. Don't try to justify it with "support" or any of the other flimsy crap you try to justify this with. I've always paid for my games, I've got over 30 in my Steam list, and this is the thanks I get. You treated me like a theif right from the beginning, and the hamfisted and inept way you did it made me wish I was one. I might not start stealing, but I sure as hell am never buying DRM'd content again. It's always irritated me, done absolutely nothing to deter theieves and never will, and this is the last straw.
In closing, **** you.

anyway OP, yes it is irritating to have lost something you worked for hours to get. Maybe you should raise a support ticket with EA and see if it helps.

And, while i dont rage, i totally agree with OP. This drm has given me more problems than to my pirate friend who torrented it. I'm fine with DRM, as long as it doesn't interfere a bit with what im doing, and it did in DA:O.

And yes. Its annoying that it needs to authorize the content each time i load the game.

When i first encountered this i was somewhat upset as it would seem to indicate that i cannot load my save games offline? However i can see that others mention playing offline without problems?

It really shouldn't be in there since we're the paying customer (and thus the only people penalised by it).
This is doubly true of the versions we get through services like Steam etc.
Has anyone gotten it through Impulse?
Stardock are supposed to have a have a no DRM policy, so I'm wondering if that means their Impulse purchases are DRM free too (like the excelent Sins of a Solar Empire)

Nope, they don't. They just have the policy to warn if there's any DRM in a game. Not sure if they have this warning with Dragon Age, since I wasn't allowed to buy it there because I'm from Europe. And Stardock doesn't have distribution rights for Dragon Age in Europe (but other games I can buy there without a problem).

I use a cheesy $100 laptop for the interbutts. My gaming machine should never know its evils, and be slowed down by antivirus software and the like. Thats just me, but I run a tight ship on my pc, and never connecting it to the interwebs is something i take a little pride in.
tl;dr;
great game, retail version plays fine offline with dlc enabled.
at least for this nerd.

I've purchased DA: origins from Impulse - and yes you do need to be logged in or else you will not have access to your paid DLC. I am also not happy being treated like a criminal and the people who have pirated are not being affected. There is no easy solution to game publishers and us gamers are suffering because of those who pirate. KILL THEM!

I'm guessing this must be a Steam issue rather than a DA issue per se?

DA (retail version) has no DRM, just a disk check. I just started the game, logged out, and loaded my save game - and all the DLC is still there. It doesn't go away once authenticated.

I have the steam version and I just tried the same as you, still all there.

Absolutly....I downloaded Torchlight through Steam and I will never get another game from them.
Auto updates....no control over even if you dont want the damn update.
From here on in I will always get my games retail.
