Hi, wellwhoopdedooo.
Sorry you are having problems with the DRM. As Mithent has already stated, there is no DRM in the retail version of DA, so this should be an specific problem of the service provider you bought the game from.
If you provide details of the service provider and the exact error message I will be glad to help Posted Image

Well, I play a torrented image of the game since the 3rd and I already spent about 160 USD with it!!!!

First time, digital download wouldn't be possible because EA download manager does not run on Win 7 64 OS... so my Deluxe Edition is a deluxe dream and EA is to refund me on my c/c invoice.

Then, the game was scheduled for release here on the 6th and I pre-ordered a CE edition... date changed to Friday the 13th... and when I checked with the mega store where EA recommended me over the phone as the 1st store to have it here... Jason prolly got the shipment and no delivery was made to any store... That's another USD 80 equivalent in my currency...

I'm about to finish my second run and yet to know who the f*** is Shale... lol... way to go Bioware... keep chosing your partners this wisely and I might follow those zillion ppl that will never pay for a game again... if I not loved the game so much and was a bioware's fan since 1998... I would really consider to cancel my order and keep just the image of it!

But I actually want to go online, register the game, have my free dlc's and stuff... else I'd had cancelled it already too.

RageGT, this isn´t the way to go. Publishers need their software protected. Gamers need that the protection works effectively and without being invasive.

Going to a dev site forum and threatening the devs for their use of DRM does not cause anything productive, as they have the firm decission of protecting their product.

However, we could offer support and learn ways of improving the protections used so they make their work while avoiding the irritation of gamers.

RYG/P.R.I.S.M was born with that objective, and we are growing out. We are currently talking and evaluating 2 major DRM vendors. RageGT I invite you to read www.the-prism.com or www.reclaimyourgame.com and read the interviews.

On the forum you could learn about some games tested that their DRM behaves nice with end-users (gamers)

As for your personal problem with the EADM, contact EA tech support or anyone of this site´s administrator (in bold letters just at the botton of the window) and they may provide some help.

Alternate way tell me the exact error message you are getting and I might be able to help.

I REALLY want to know what those of you with regular physical copies are doing to keep your DLC active when you're offline. Are you SURE you don't have it set to automatically log you in each time you start up the game? Because if I DON'T log in, my DLC disappears. I don't have the Impulse, Steam or D2D digital versions, but the regular disc version, which I bought from Amazon, if that means anything. Seriously, I don't know how you guys are keeping your DLC authorized when you go offline, and I'd like someone to be very specific as to what they're doing and what their settings are, so maybe I can figure out why my game won't permanently authorize me.

Online authentication = DRM. Don't tell me you've never had to login to the Bioware servers to be able to play your saves with Shale and whatever promo items you got.

why do you people still buy from steam? really.. try direct2drive etc.. no issues with that drm crap.

I really dont get why you people love Steam crapovski drm policies..

I *tried* to purchase from Direct2Drive (since it was much cheaper) using 3 different credit cards AND paypal. All of the transactions failed, and i found the support information pretty much non-existent. I also read people have had problems with D2D charging the credit cards for failed transaction.

Steam worked fine, so thats were i ended up.

sounds like th problem is with steam.

I bought a retail pc copy of DA:O, have it installed on 2 PC's (needed lappy for portable dragon pwnage) logged in on both installs and downloaded my dlc for both, never any problems.

the only drm that came with the retail version was the diskcheck and key, whihc has been standard for years.. no crap.

Also, Complaining with "Arg my stuff be gone, I should turn pirate and steal yur booty" is the single best way to get anyone's sympathy. <_<

Ummm... it's not just Steam or Impulse. I got mine through D2D, and I've got that login-to-authorize-or-you-may-not-have-your-content warning a few times. It does bug me a lot. I've got an authorized, legal, paid-for copy, I've got the codes, I've jumped through the hoops, but I need an internet connection to play? What if, FSM forbid, I happen not to have access to the 'Net? Well, I start losing DLC. Didn't I already freakin' download it?

I love the game, and I understand the need to cut down on piracy, but the multiple layers of DRM are too much.

This isn't DRM, this is you not being patient enough to let the content LOAD. This would have happened with a cracked version too, you have to wait until it says "Logged In" at the bottom of the first page before pressing the "Resume button".

You can set the game to "Do not connect me to the internet" check in the login menu and the DLC should work even offline.

If you don't get why people like Steam frankly you aren't worth the effort... you clearly lack the capacity of logical thought.

My steam DDE purchase is working fine, the issues are your problem.

No one has said there were problems with downloading the DLC.

I don't think the people saying they still have the DLC in their game even if they're offline are actually offline, which is why I want someone who claims they can play the DLC even while offline to let me know exactly what they're doing. They're either logged in and don't realize it (example: they have cable that's connected at all times and have auto-login enabled in the game), they're pirates, or they're somehow different from everyone else, which is why we'd need specifics to figure out why they can use the DLC without logging in.

To be honest I think you (along with the entire game publishing industry it seems) are missing the point. ANY DRM at all is worse than pointless. Pirate versions will be made with DRM stripped out for any none online only stype games and distributed via the normal channels, anyone who would have pirated the game will do so with or without DRM.

All DRM does is waste money for the publishers paying DRM companies, annoy legitamate customers who no matter how nicely it plays will always end up with issues caused by false detection, internet outages, etc and generally leave a bad taste in everyones mouths. This will only drive more people down the piracy route out of frustration and annoyance in the long term.

Also this whole priracy issue is blown out of all preportion buy companies like EA. The "lost revenue" they quote is blatently absurd for obvious reasons.

*edit* Now I don't actually know what DRM Dragon age uses, but I will surely find out before I buy it, and if it is even close the measures EA has employed in the past I won't be touching it.

Also I don't want anyone to think that I am encouraging pirating games, I am not, but it is a much more complex issue than publishers would have you believe. Piracy has been around since the dawn information and the simply fact is the vast majority of people who can afford to buy something and want to have it will buy it. Those who can't or would of pirated it anyway will find a way, regardless of what you do.

Can you please tell me specifically where this "do not connect me to the internet" option is? I just went in the game, looked at the online options and the log in options, and did not see it.

I can.

No interbutts on my machine. I have that cheesy cricket modem, and i use it on a cheesy laptop, and it only violated my gaming machine once for a few minutes to download my dlc and has never been connected again. ever.

I plan to reinstall windows 7 on my next day off work, and hope that I can restore my dlc offline... We shall see!
Great game, no issues at all. Thank you BioWare.

Let's see... the following keywords were found in this rant:

''Customer''

''DRM''

''Paid''

''Had I stolen''

''Worse crap''

''Justified''

''The thanks I get (for buying)''

''Treated me like a thief''

''In closing: (expletive) you''

That a fair summary?

Really, these QQ threads are always such fun to read. You could insert these words in a random story generator and that would cover about 90% of all these cheese and whine threads.

About the grave injustice done to you in the form of a missing sword. About how they should be THANKING you for not breaking the law. About how you are personally never buying one of their games again, because you are being ''treated like a thief''. Blubber blubber blubber, I did the right thing, I didnt steal this game like I normally would, I'm a fair good customer and I deserve your respect! BWAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.

Lots of my peers are playing the pirate version. Seems fine to them as we're always talking about the game!!
PS. I'm playing PS3 original.

Another example. Apparently the norm for ''everybody and all their friends'' these days is to pirate everything, and when you do actually buy a game you expect companies to roll out the red carpet, serve you shrimp on toast and cater to your every whim.

And people wonder why the gaming industry is slowly falling apart all around us.

First time, digital download wouldn't be possible because EA download
manager does not run on Win 7 64 OS... so my Deluxe Edition is a deluxe
dream and EA is to refund me on my c/c invoice.

Yes it does, I have the exact same version you have and my DD downloaded just fine. So the problem is with you, not EA.

It really shouldn't be in there since we're the paying customer (and thus the only people penalised by it).

This is doubly true of the versions we get through services like Steam etc.

Has anyone gotten it through Impulse?
Stardock are supposed to have a have a no DRM policy, so I'm wondering if that means their Impulse purchases are DRM free too (like the excelent Sins of a Solar Empire)

Stardock only has a No DRM policy for their own games, but for games not theirs the publishers can still put DRM on Impulse games, and many do.

I'm guessing this must be a Steam issue rather than a DA issue per se?

Absolutly....I downloaded Torchlight through Steam and I will never get another game from them.

Auto updates....no control over even if you dont want the damn update.

From here on in I will always get my games retail. ;)

You can tell Steam not to auto update each game.  Right click the game on the Steam GUI.  Go to Properties.  Go to Update.  Pick "Do not Automatically update this game"

Click bottom left where it says logged in, should take you to account options.

And I bought my copy from D2D Digital CE , dont have any problems with DLC when offline. Unplugged my ethernet cable, restarted comp, started DA:O and everything is still there.
