Okay, so I've just discovered that going to the Hot Labs right after talking to Capt. Ventralis for the first time might actually be better, story wise, since that's how you find out she was never there and that she was at Rift Station the whole time...  However if I go there first then I miss out on a lot of characters (Dr Cohen in particular and his whole cure mission)...

However, there is a way around that, and there are different ways of doing it - but all paths seem a bit... disjointed?  Which one of these seems like the most natural progession?

talk to Ventralis > then talk to everyone in rift station > then make cure > then be told by Olar that the geth came from the maintenance area > ignore him for the time being and go to the hot labs (give Cohen cure along the way) > discover Benezia wasn't there > go back up and kill Ventralis, etc. > confront Benezia...

or

talk to Ventralis > then talk to everyone in rift station > then make cure > then be told by Olar that the geth came from the maintenance area > listen to what he's saying and get maintenance pass from Cohen (and give cure)> confront Benezia...

or

talk to Ventralis > go to Hot labs > discover Benezia wasn't there > go back up and kill Ventralis, etc. > confront Benezia

Hey AN! How is it going? ^^

This is an interesting question, although I can't say I have a readily made answer, but I will try.

It's been a while since my last ME1 playthrough, so I may not be remembering everything sufficiently, but here goes:

> Talk to Ventralis
> Talk to everyone in rift station
> Make cure
> Give cure to the doctor
> Speak to Olar
> "Sneak in" into Benezia's household (that is to say, without altering the guards)
> Deal with Benezia and the Rachni queen
> Go to the hot labs
> End mission

This is how it happened on my canon, perfect ME1 playthrough. As you can see, I left the hot labs for last. There was a reason for this, like I had to, but I can't quite remember what led me to leave it for last. Also, by following this algorithm, Ventralis actually survives, since you avoid the confrontation with him.

Hey peeps :)

Yeah I always did it like that too... But now I'm wondering how it even makes sense? I mean when you first speak to Ventralis he tells you that Benezia is in the Hot Labs, and he unlocks the elevator behind you to get there... It just seems wierd, given what Shep knows at the time, that she wouldn't go there straight away - basically I'm trying to figure out how Shep justifies exploring Rift Station first, when there doesn't seem to be any reason to, especially when the hot labs are right behind her... :/

Lol!

"So, how was your day, Shep?"

"I've seen better days... I mean, when I go to take a leak, I'd like it if once, just ONCE, I didn't have to create a cure for a top-secret super bio-weapon or something along the way..."

I see what you mean, which is exactly why I used to go to the hot labs and then Benezia, ignoring the Rift Station altogether.

I don't suppose it's all that easy to justify it from Shepard's perspective. The fact of the matter is, you WILL miss out on content and a whole quest if you go to the hot labs right away. Peak 15 just feels a bit messed up like that, haha... XD

You can still imagine Shepard to be not very trusting of Ventralis, though, leading her to go to the hot labs first. Or anything along those lines.

The main reason my Shepard always explored Rift Station first was to speak to Han Olar, who Ventralis says survived the Hot Labs. For some reason, that gets my attention, as if I want to speak to Han Olar most of all, even before going after Benezia. Like perhaps I want to know what I'm walking into first.

Thanks guys - I think I've got a justification now...

Seeing as she was already at Rift Station, perhaps Shepard just wanted to quickly explore the place first, just to be a bit more prepared when meeting Benezia, thinking it wouldn't take up much of her time anyway... But then when she speaks to Cohen, that's when she becomes cautious of Ventralis, and realises she may need to investigate the place in a bit more depth. Then when she makes the cure and is attacked by geth, her suspicions are compounded by the fact that Cohen earlier observed that Ventralis's men had been "on edge" and the fact that the geth came from the maintenance area... That's when Shep decides that Ventralis can't necessarily be trusted and that there's a good chance that the Hot Labs are a trap, and that the maintenance area is where she really needs to go.

EDIT: Thank you Pacifien!  That's the probably the best reason for Shepard to explore Rift Station!  Okay, I can do this mission without thinking about it anymore!

I've done it all sorts of ways. But I like to make sure that douche Ventralis and that biznatch Alestia Iallis get what's coming to them, so I always make the cure for Dr. Cohen and I always trigger the alarm.

I'd love to deal with Ventralis, but there doesn't seem to be any way of doing it without most of the scientists permanently "disappearing" :/ It would've been nice if Shep could go back to Rift Station after dealing with Benezia to make sure everyone was safe from Ventralis, but Shepard just... buggered off :/ Oh well!

Funny thing about Ventralis, if you don't help him fight off those rachni, he and his men get swarmed, but I don't think he can die though. I stumbled across this via a glitch, as one of the rachni spawned in some mystery place, so I left, came back and Ventralis says something sarcastic like "Gee, thanks for all the help back there."

I try to save as many as possible, and I bring Liara. Also I let the Rachni Queen go.

I think Benezia told Ventralis to expect you and lie about where she was.

Nuke the site from Orbit. It's the only way to be sure.
