My PS3 just bit the dust with the YLOD, thankfully I had just completed my first paragon playthrough of ME2 and just started my renegade. When I buy a new PS3, am I right in thinking I can't carry over my save files ? If so that sucks as I wanted to carry my first playthrough over to ME3.
New PS3 - Can I transfer my save file?

If you use the Data Transfer option between the two PS3s, then yes. Although if the old one succumbed to YLOD, I'm not sure.

If that's true then that should work, I am working on fixing the YLOD but as there's no permanent fix I should be able to get it running for enough time to do a data transfer to my new one. Many thanks.

If it's just the save game you're after you can always copy it to a USB stick, 10 seconds and you're all done!

Except that the Profile file is copy-protected.Obi56 wrote...

There's a way to temporarily fix a YLOD ps3 with a hairdryer and fan, that should give you enough time to hook up a 2way Ethernet cable and do a data transfer.
Go onto YouTube and search the hair dryer YLOD fix. I know 3 People who have tried it successfully.

Always, and the number 1 rule here is to back up your saves (if you can) with a USB stick periodically, it sure helped me out.Obi56 wrote...

I had error code problems doing my data transfer tool to new PS3. After much messing around with tool and on phone with sony (they where no help error unknown :/ ) I wish I had wrote the error code down. but in the end the solution was deleting one problem save on my system that made the transfer tool error out. Once I deleted and lost my copy protected High Velocity Bowling save my precious copy protected
DA:O (among many others) saves where transferred. what a relief that was.
YLOD sucks and each run with an error was that much closer to old system failing... stressful. I sure hope the rumored online save option coming in next firmware is true.

Just FYI, the data transfer process takes far longer than it should even for minimal amounts of actual data.
The best method for speed is to first delete as much as you can before you start the transfer process; music, photos, videos, PSN games, game install data, and so forth. Anything which you can re-download should be trashed so that it will mostly transfer the save data which you can't re-download. (also backing up all saves which aren't copy-protected to a USB drive/stick first would be wise)
Considering that you are working against a YLOD you don't want it to take 6-8 hours.

I just got mine fixed with the YLOD. If you fix it yourself I dont know about your data. If you send it to sony, you will lose your data, because they send you refurbished ps3.
