Usually when given the quest by Ramazith, I let go of the nymph and battle Ramazith to get the Tome of Clear Thought, but playing an Evil half-orc Barbarian who has no use of more INT, I decided to fulfill the quest the way Ramazith ordered me to, by handing him the captured nymph, but I don't get any reward.

When I hand over the nymph, Ramazith says to me "A profitable day for both our interests. A service of immense proportions you have done to me"

Then I get the message 'party lost an item' (the nymph), but I don't get anything, no 'the party gained an item', no item in my inventory, no xp. There is dialogue in which Ramazith's tells what he gains by dissecting the nymph, but no further option to talk to him to complain or anything. Is this the way it's supposed to be, a rewardless quest? Or is my setup bugged?

Might this be default behaviour? Today I found this quote in the Gamespot-walkthrough:

Reward: None, if you help Ramazith.

This half-orc Barbarian was the first evil PC I tried (I usually play 'I want to help people' NG characters), but as often mentioned, Baldur's Gate is not very rewarding (literally) for an evil party.

*edit: It's actually the first real fault I find in Baldur's Gate, which otherwise is probably the most awesome game ever.

(well, of course there's more faults, but they all get removed by the mods I use :wizard:)

The sequence should be that you deliver Abela to Ramazith and she says:

I am to be a captive here now? I shall die amidst this ugliness!

,

he says:

No child, you need not worry your pretty little head. In but a tenday you will no longer be here, or anywhere. I would have a word with your 'liberators' a moment, wait in this corner please.

and

A job done well in every respect, and no finer a specimen could I have wished for. By far, she is the most elusive spell component I have ever had to seek.[...]

and then you get a pair of bracers of AC 7 (yay!).

Ah, yes. He uses an action that requires that he has the item in his possession, but he has no bracers. Bug.

And this is the evil path. BG wouldn't be punishing you for taking the evil path if you got XP, now would it?

Ah, so he should have Bracers but he hasn't. I wonder if the Hard Times mod I use removed it - it changes or removes a lot of magic items into less-powerful items. Maybe I should contact the maker of Hard Times, if he's still active as a modder.

You are right.

In taking a quick look at the script, it doesn't look as if Hard Times removes any bracers. The only change it makes to Ramazith is moving his ring to the ring slot.

I don't know how I dealt with the issue back then, I remember reloading to try out another option, the half-orc (should that be quarter-orc, with the PC's lineage?), has long since finished the game, but I appreciate you stopping by on this forum and creating an account for a reply.

Welcome, Macready!
