Meet Anders. Some of you may remember Anders from Dragon Age: Origins Awakening, but this mage has changed. Now bonded with the Spirit of Justice, his anger at the Circle of Magi has corrupted Justice into the Spirit of Vengeance. Everyday is now a struggle to contain the spirit within, and everyday it becomes harder to control.

This is not the Anders you remember.

Can we get info on who wrote Anders/Vengeance, dear writers :D?

That would be Jennifer Hepler.

Anders is definitely still recognizable as snarky ol' Anders on most subjects. He/Justice just have one enormous blind spot. And the bigger that issue gets in the world, the harder it is for Anders to focus on anything else...

Dave wrote them both originally. I was working on The Old Republic when Awakening was being written.

As a general rule, the way friendship and rivalry works, is that friendship means agreeing with and supporting the follower in what *they* want to do, no matter how crazy, illogical or dangerous to self and others. Rivalry means opposing their big cause, often for the right reasons. So it's very possible to be a better friend to someone by choosing the rivalry path, since you're trying to stop them from giving in to their own self-destructive whims. It's not always the most intuitive, but definitely don't think of friendship as doing the "right" thing and rivalry as doing the "bad" thing. It's just as likely to be the other way around.

The short story is about the first time Vengeance takes over. Anders is totally unprepared for what was going to happen, so it's a bit more... graphic and extreme... than it becomes when he actively tries to control it. Not that he always succeeds at controlling Vengeance, by any means, but he's at least putting up a fair fight.

There is a spoiler forum for character discussion. Posting spoilers here in General Discussion, just because it is "the Anders thread" is not welcome. Please move conversation there, if you wish.
