But I know who Anders is, and that was not him. It only makes me want to save him more.

Well said!

Thanks! To be totally OT for a second, I've seen you posting around here and have been meaning to say that I love your avatar. ::LotS fan:: <3

Upsettingshorts, I think while most of us appreciate open-minded Anders debate, some people may have misinterpreted your opening remarks as hostile due to the comment regarding 'but people don't like (insert other characters) for reasons way less horrible than this'. It seemed to come from a place labeling Anders as worse than these other, poor, misunderstood characters and colored opinions of your later remarks. I would guess the feeling comes from remnants of tension from before yesterday when some people were not above grasping at straws and sniping at one another in hopes that it would somehow affect the outcome of an LI list already set in stone long before. ::removes analyst hat::

Our culture right now is kinda of obsessed with the sexy monster and ladies everywhere all want a chance to either redeem or join them; Twilight, True Blood, Being Human ect.. Anders fits.

Yeah, I got a feeling that's what they're going for with these LIs, and I am none too pleased. Not a fan of that genre at all. I suppose I'm in the minority for simply wanting a nice, laid back romance. All I want is a pretty boy, a decent meal and the right to shoot lightning at fools.

"Yeah.... let's go and make him not even particularly human anymore!  Muahahaha....."

creeeepy.  ;)

(No one seems to be talking about it much thanks to the OMGCANNIBAL freakout, which I'm willing to file -- for now -- under "demonic frenzy and definitely not his choice," but where I went wide-eyed was the whole "I am not of mortal men" part.  Did everyone get too distracted by the decapitations and such to notice that Anders SURVIVED HAVING A SWORD THRUST THROUGH HIS CHEST without even blinking?  It's going to be veeeeery interesting seeing how they work that into proceedings without completely breaking the game....)

Has anyone considered that outside of flirting Anders might not even be fully romanceable until after you resolve his issues? And how would you feel if that were the case?

Personally, I think it'd be kind of rewarding and more realistic. I would just hope that it didn't drag on until the end of the game.

Although now that people have brought up the Twilight thing and putting this into perspective with that...

Personally, I find the Twilight comparison hilarious for one little reason:

So Anders is getting his Cullen on, eh?

In terms of game mechanics that's how it works for everyone -- takes multiple sword stabs in the chest and wherever to have anyone fall down. And even then they're back on their feet within few minutes if they're with the winning team.

I'm actually hoping that's the case. I don't want Lady Hawke to get serious about Anders until "third wheel" Vengeance goes back to being Justice or just takes a hike!:pinched:

My first in group practical joke is going to be tieing a liver onto some fishing line and pulling it away when Anders goes for it.

@Dreamextractor I can totally see it being a kind of impediment - a "I want you but can't risk losing control" thing.

Oh yuck. I've just got the Edward Cullen Vibe. I might have to go and throw up.

ON THE OTHER HAND - this is Bioware, and Hepler, and I will give her the credit of being a better writer than Stephanie Meyer, because you know, YEAST is a better writer than she is. They may actually do it well.

I wouldn't think so, unless you can resolve his situation somewhere in the middle of the game. Otherwise it would be a very, very short romance option. And the comment, that as time goes on he finds it harder to focus on anything else might be a hint that the relationship will suffer setbacks as a result of his, er, 'condition'.

I think what will happen is that Anders will be mostly Anders at the beginning, at which point you can initiate a relationship, but the progression will be different from the usual BioWare formula as he starts going more and more to the dark side.

I think you probably can't conclude the romance until his issues are dealt with (unless it concludes with his death... :crying:), much like you couldn't finish Zevran's until you confront Taliesen.

I coulda said "Would the Na'vi has been as sympathetic in Avatar had they looked like grotesque fish people and been total jerks" and it woulda been the same point. It was not specifically a Twilight reference.

Point.  Still, though, there's "everyone gets hit 97 times before they fall down" game mechanics, and there's "omg he caaaaan't be kiiiiillleeeeeeed" plot mechanics, and the story was definitely the latter.

::snickers::  I see what you did there.

And Twilight...

Anders:  This is the skin of a KILLER, Bella!  ::emo sob::
Hawke: Who the hell is Bella?

@Pagerunner it'd be kinda funny if you couldn't kill him though - after all those people posted in the Anders speculation threads "I'm killing him if they bring him back!"

GUESS WHAT! YOU CAN'T!! MWUAHAHAHAH!

I'd like to think I'm beyond looks, I romanced a guy with metal plates for a face in the last game. And the grotesque fish-lizard. :P

That said, I may be the only person who hasn't seen Avatar, because I didn't find the smurf cats at all sympathetic or interesting.

Yeah, that is true.

Either way, it's going to be interesting to see how it plays out.

I feel kind of bad for all of the Hawke's that romance Anders. You get this guy with demonic possession issues and then after you resolve him of that, you STILL have the taint to (probably) deal with. Since according to Gaider Anders is going to be a Grey Warden no matter what.

Another thing I just thought of. They're making a big deal about how these relationships will span an entire decade. I think that precludes them from making one available only in the last few years, doesn't it?

Did Gaider say he was going to -be- a Warden no matter what, or he was going to join the Wardens no matter what? I'm still hoping for the slim chance that Justice healed the taint... :?

Re: the Twilight reference - At least we have the reassurance of Hepler that he'll be his normal snarky self most of the time. Tortured and demonic is fine, as long as there's sarcasm.

I think he said he'd join them no matter what, but I don't remember his exact phrasing.

Personally, I don't think there's much chance of Anders being 'cured' of the taint.  I think that would be getting too close to a "butterflies and rainbows" happy ending.  I'd be fine with curing/removing Vengeance and simply allowing Hawke and Anders to enjoy their almost-thirty years together.
