Meanwhile, my mage Amell ratted Jowan out to Irving immediately, because she loves the Circle and thought he was crazy for trying to escape.
I will eventually play a warrior character who is greatly upset by Carver's death and thinks that mages ought to go to the Circle for training, and it's not such a terrible thing. She'll be at odds with Bethany...and I'm sure her relationship with Anders will be strained, at best.

Depends. Not all Chantry followers are what some would consider bad people. I question their practices, especially when it comes to the Templar thing. But I'm sure they're going to make that decision much harder than many expect.
Also, I think Anders still believes in the Maker? Anyone's thoughts on that?
From the way he talks at the Lyrium Bucket in Kal'Hirol, he believes in the Maker and was raised an Andrastian. However, he seems very much like someone who has drifted away from religion or who is confused/put off by the gap between who Andraste was/what she wanted and what is being done in her name.

Oh sure, I was just pointing out that anti-Chantry isn't remotely as out there as pro-cannibal. Not that I think anyone here is actively the latter.
Definitely not, to be certain. *suspciously looks at the others... * Vengeance/Anders has not really made me reconsider my stance on the issue of eating human flesh. Still quite squicked, but intrigued by this plot twist all the same. Ms. Helper is so good at that!

People just feel the need to point to that in order to justify...something at the moment.
There's nothing to justify. It is what it is. What I didn't get was why it wasn't more of a big deal. Posts like the ones you responded to that didn't get why it was being an example of positions that made me scratch my head and open the debate.
Poster: "Why is it a big deal?"
Me, incredulous: "Why isn't it a big deal?"
That's all really. My personal theories as to why that is ended up becoming the focus and that was mostly my fault for bringing them up at all.
I think you probably have to take into account some of the posters asking why are under the impression that the cannibalism you're referring to is the honeyed wine blood part, as opposed to the description of countless bodies and eaten flesh. I think most people who are on the same page with you regarding what you're actually talking about also think it's a big deal. But not enough of a big deal to write off the character, because he's sympathetic, and not just for superficial reasons either. Not that you implied we should write him off.

I miss the former. One of my Wardens got a rose from Alistair in front of the entire Proving crowd. It was magical for them, I'm sure.
Once I got the rose during the Redcliff zombie invasion. Nothing sets the mood like flaming zombies and dying knights.
It was the most romantic gesture ever.
... Will DAII LIs give us gifts?

Uh, what? That's what we've been doing. Then you said something about the cannibalism thing being comparable to his anti-Chantry position, which I don't think works at all - primarily because it isn't anywhere near being a taboo considering how many people endorse just that position right here on these forums.
I mean, they're related in the sense that the Chantry are the subjects of his violent rage, but that's the only connection I can make.
it was sarcasm aimed at pointing out that cannibalism issue is not the biggest part of Ander's character
yeah,

I for one am interested to find out how that will be handled. Do you think as time goes by and Vengeance becomes stronger within Anders, that he'll stop focusing solely on the Templars who hunt mages and turn his hate onto anyone who works for the Chantry at all? What about anyone who invokes the name of the Maker? What about the Maker himself? This downward spiral is going to be so depressing, but I'm desperate to know more.RinjiRenee wrote...

I think my own apostate Hawke will be like my Amell Warden. She believes in the Maker full well, but that doesn't mean she'll ally herself to people who would use his name to gain power and abuse their fellow men. It's up to the Maker to judge her if she's wrong, she won't take condemnation from those who are human just the same as she is.
Oh Alistair, that softy. At least the Warden had something to put under her nose to counteract the smell...Batteries wrote...

I have to wonder what any of the LIs might consider good gifts... Anders already lost his earring, so I guess we won't have a Zevran repeat.

yeah,
Where did I say it was? It's the part - regardless of its "size" - that has the most potentially disturbing implications.
Also it's not like this is a random Codex entry or off-hand comment by Varric about the one time Anders nibbled on a corpse. This was revealed in a short story posted for the explicit purpose of introducing us to the romance options in Dragon Age 2.

Yeah, from the quote on his character page to what he says in the short story, Awakening etc., I think he does still believe in the Maker. His issue seems to be more with the Chantry as an institution, with twisting Andraste's words to imprison the mages who their own Maker has supposedly created. It's not an uncommon view in the real world as well--belief in a particular faith, but disillusionment with how the institution "in charge" handles it or enforces it.

You know, someone this dark would make even Morrigan quirk an eyebrow I think. For a second. Then she'd just handwave the Circle Mages completely.
... Mmm, mage sauce.

That part did freak me out a little bit, along with the whole "eating flesh" part.. I really hope we'll somehow be able to exorcism Vengeance out of Anders or something like that without killing him(Anders)..
