LOL.  Alistair looks mad that you gave that mage his armor.

Can you really blame him, when the manskirt-wearing freak pulls it off so well?

Speaking of nicknames, I really hope someone calls Anders "Sparklefingers" in DA2.

Varric is supposed to call companions by nicknames, so he may, but I think he'd come up with something more witty.

I almost certain my Hawke will call him that herself, even if it's in the privacy of my own imagination. :innocent:

LOVING the fake banter. I don't know about Carver/Merrill, but I like the idea of Anders getting involved in Carver's love life.

Anders: Hawke, we have to do something about your brother.
Hawke: I know you and Carver aren't exactly hitting it off, but he's been through a lot. Give the kid a break.
Anders: What? No, it's not that. It's his situation with women.
Hawke: What "situation" would that be?
Anders: Surely you've seen it! It's impossible to miss the awkward stares, the stuttering, the fidgeting, the twitching...
Hawke: I'm not sure why this is any of our business.
Anders: How can it not be? It's gotten so that I'm embarrassed to be seen with him. ... Well, more so than usual. One time Isabela asked him if he wanted a 'roll in the hay' and he actually said, [does a Carver impression] "I don't think there's any hay around here!"
Hawke: That's your best Carver?
Anders: The point is, the man has absolutely no game. I tried to teach him a few of my finely developed skills, but he's just so stubborn he wouldn't have any of it.
Hawke: "Finely developed"?
Anders: Maybe I should get him a cat, that always works.
Hawke: "Always"???

Tee hee, I love this.

The next time they're in battle, Hawke hears a strange "meowing" coming from Carver's pack.  Carver seems very disgruntled...

Hawke: Carver, why are you carrying a small animal in your pack?
Carver: Anders said it would help me attract women.
Hawke: And since when was listening to Anders a good idea?
Anders: HEY!
Carver: I don't know, it seemed like a good idea at the time...
Hawke: Your bag is covered in cat ******.
Merrill:  OMG is that a kitty?!  SQUEEEE, so sweet!
Anders: ::brightly:: Carver calls him Buttons
Merrill: Yay Buttons!  OMG OMG I could nom your head
Carver: ::whispers:: Do I let her eat the cat?
Anders: ::sigh::

I started Awakening for the first time yesterday. Anders is hilarious. Gotta say, he does kinda feel like a one-trick pony at the moment though, but I'm hoping that will change as I get into it. He now has a kitteh and the kitteh has a collar XD

Did love some of the banter between him and Oghren as I wandered around Amaranthine for the first time though. But now I have Justice, so no more Oghren in my party (seriously, knowing what we know about Anders/Justice in DA2, there's no way either of them are leaving my party now unless they have to). I'm very glad the 1st main plot mission I chose to do was the Justice one ... I had no idea.

I'm so far not feeling the Nate love ... I'm assuming he becomes more awesome?

And I had no idea you couldn't chat to your party back at base. I kept clicking on Anders and wailing at the TV 'talk to me, dammit!'.

I never understood the Nate love. He's a fairly bland character to me (and Maker, his monotone gets on my nerves), but I know some of his fans feel the same about Anders. Oh well!

Sigrun was bland,
Nate was more what i'd call predictable. His story went nowhere and you really didn't talk about anything but hit family (Who would have thought?)

I did not care for most awakenings companions other than Oghren and anders

LOL forever.

Re: Nate Fangirls like him because he's, to quote David Gaider, so stoic. But he can be funny and even a little charming. I actually think he warms up too quickly, considering what he's supposed to represent, but I guess if he didn't, bias against him being a Howe would mean nobody would like him.

I don't know, even when he was flirting with Velanna I found him to be just dull. He had no charm or fire to him that I could enjoy, and I think even my Cousland gave up trying to bait him after a couple of conversations. My party in Awakening usually consisted of Anders (that's the personality I like!), Oghren, and Sigrun, simply because I found them all to be interesting and amusing.
The stoic thing is - in theory - attractive (ooh, the strong, silent type), but it gets old for me very quickly. I like a bit of fun and laughter and spice to my companions. In DA:O I admired Sten, but I never actually took him anywhere because I found him boring, and I'm hoping that this isn't a problem I'll have in DA2. Aveline is, admittedly, a bit of a worry, but I'll have to see more of her. Basically, if companions are funny and/or shamelessly violent, I'll be happy!

I would have been happy with either Nate or Anders coming back as a full party member, they were both interesting and in need of more development. I think I ended up liking Anders more because of Nathaniel's odd disapproval of saving Amaranthine (ya know, where his sister is...) instead of Vigil's Keep. My final party was Justice, Sigrun, and Anders, since they seem to care about saving the city, and don't approve of siding with the Architect.

I was relieved that I was able to get the "good" ending for Nathaniel, even though I left him at Vigil's Keep. It's not his fault that Awakening is so short and he didn't get proper exposition.

lol!! The last two pages are win! I liked Nathaniel, I was wary of him at first but he grew on me. It sucks you have to sacrifice one or two of your companion's stories because Awakening is ridiculously short. Sigrun and Oghren were the ones I didn't finish. I don't care much about Oghren, but it's a shame for Sigrun as I find her to be interesting and fun to have around. I would have loved to have her in DA2. Happy thieving legionaire of the dead turned grey warden? Yes please.

I loved Nathaniel. Maybe it was his stoic charm, but I like how he more or less remained open minded for the most part and didn't end up like his father. I do wish there was a little more substance to the story but ah well. And @TeenZombie, yeah... I found that a little odd about him wanting to save Vigil's Keep. I wanted be like "(Persuade) HEY YOUR SISTER IS IN AMARANTHINE YOU JERK."

In the end, however, Anders was a much more entertaining character and I'm glad that he's getting some much needed depth in DA2. When they threw in those little mentions of him in the Witch Hunt DLC I was sitting there and going "damn...I almost wish that he was going to stick around! I wanna know about his six other attempts to escape the tower!" and etc.

But of course now, it looks like I'm getting my wish. ♥ He's become a little dark but hey, character development. It can and will happen.

I've always enjoyed the snarky, violent characters, especially those with dark senses of humor. Shale was my favorite character in DOA and Anders in Awakening. Just more my type IRL.

Here's to hoping for more dark snark from our resident abomination!

^Oh, I loved Shale. Her humour is the best.

I think Nathaniel was looking at the situation practically. It would be rather selfish to abandon everyone at Vigil's Keep on the off-chance that you might be able to save your sister in Amaranthine (which the guard captain already says is overrun). I doubt many people would choose the same way as Nathaniel IRL, but it is a more practical approach.

Has this been posted?  Sweaty half-naked Anders?  If so, I think I'll probably be forgiven.  This can't be viewed enough (and in general, Louvette does beautiful digital art on DA):

You better watch out
Or you're going to die
Best get on mount
I'm telling you why
The maleficar is coming to town

Templars are his list
The Revered Mother twice;
He doesn't care Who's naughty or nice
The Maleficar is coming to town

He gets you when you're sleeping
trapped in a nightmare when you awake
if you get the chance dont hesitate
Run for Andraste's sake!

Oh You better watch out
Or You're going to die
Best get on your mount
I'm telling you why

The Maleficar is coming to town
the Maleficar is coming to town

Awesome picture.

It makes a nice wallpaper if you have a touchscreen phone. For obvious, fangirly, reasons.

Might work better if you used "abomination" instead of "Maleficar."  Merrill is the Maleficar. ;) Not that we know if Anders knows blood magic or not.

Well, I'm late to this party. I was a big fan of Anders in Awakening, so hoping there will be a good balance of recognisable Anders and crazy I keel youuu Anders. Plus - SIr Pounce A Lot please!

However, (and I am guessing this has already been discussed looking at this threads page count already but) is anyone else concerned about whether we can 'redeem' Justice? I quite liked him in DAOA as well and find myself hoping that there will be some way to get the old Justice back.

Maybe one of Ander's quests will be a DA exorcism!

well a its a childerns song it doesnt have to accurate and besides one would be branded a maleficar for having anything to do with a fade spirit (including wynne so wish i could have dobbed on her)

abomination is more for those who are completely taken over by the demon according to the HOF one is not an abomination if one retains their humainty

plus i'll just past it in her thread and it works again that took close to 7minutes to think up and its nearly bed time 05:15

I suspect Anders' final fate will vary depending on your relationship with him.
If you pursue Friendship ("I agree Anders, we should blow up that Chantry over there!") the demon ends up taking over, or something like that; whereas if you go Rivalry (Anders: "Let's blow up that Chantry!" Hawke: "Hell, no". *slaps Anders*) you may confront Vengeance and kick his arse out of Anders, or turn him into Justice again, or whatever.
