Oh, thanks for that input Ms. Helper! Definitely helped put some things in perspective... Very interesting indeed. *steeples fingers*

Very good job on making him one heck of a character to wrap our minds around, LOL.

I really like the idea that by being a rival to a companion, we're actually being a better friend. It's even more of a step away from the "Yes-man" type of role we've had to play in RPGs for so long. It also helps me, because I'm playing mage the first time and I want to see how I can argue against Anders' ideas about destroying the circle without being a huge hypocrite. I'm sure Anders will call mage Hawke out on that too.

So if VengeAnders ate people.. would he remember it and throw up? Or just be less hungry for some mysterious reason? Does the host remember what the demon does?

The short story is about the first time Vengeance takes over. Anders is totally unprepared for what was going to happen, so it's a bit more... graphic and extreme... than it becomes when he actively tries to control it. Not that he always succeeds at controlling Vengeance, by any means, but he's at least putting up a fair fight.

So did Vengeance!Anders eat eat them or was he just using his teeth to rip them apart? I was also really curious about whether or not Anders physically transformed in that moment? (I was thinking along the lines of the Slayer from BGII)

Thank you for responding, btw! :)

I wondered about this too. We've seen the glowing eyes thing, but that hasn't been when Anders/Vengeance are actively fighting anyone, and all the other possessed people I've seen transform when the demon wants to play.

So... that'd be a "yes" on the whole eating-people thing. On one hand, awesome. On the other, poor Anders. Posted Image

Don't worry; I'm sure he managed to get the taste out eventually.
Possibly with a nice Bordeaux.
Or perhaps some... Chianti?

I'm sorry I'm sorry I had to don't hit meeeeee

Most LIs for women from Bioware require the character to be nicey nicey goody goody overall and to them.

I'm going to throw it out there and guess that a "good" romance with Anders will require Rivalry (You can't be nicey nice to him all the time), and a "good" romance with Fenris will require friendship (Meaning, you need to be more confrontational and aggressive). I'm interested to see how this develops.

I still wish I had a better understanding of the Friendship / Rivalry scale. I really don't want to have to choose ALL diplomatic answers with Anders in order to pick up more Rivalry points, much like how Shepard's Renegade / Paragon system worked. It sort of takes away from the subtleties of companion interaction.

Less hungry?  He'd be more hungry!  Haven't you seen that episode of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia where Dee and Charlie think they're cannibals?  I think it would apply quite nicely to Justice and Anders...

Justice: I'll tell you what's going on; that templar fed us human meat, and we've got the hunger.
Anders: The hunger?
Justice: That's how you become a cannibal, Anders.  Like, you get one taste of delicious, delicious human meat, none of this stuff ever satisfies you ever again for the rest of your life.
Anders: Now I think that you're overreacting, okay?
Justice: Oh, really?
Anders: Yeah. That's stupid.
Justice: Is that stupid?! Oh, I'm sorry, Anders. Well, then I guess Jaws IV is stupid, okay?!  Because that's the exact same plot!

For Anders's personal quest, you have to find him a hot plate and some beers, then head down to the morgue with him for a snack.... bwahahaha.  I love It's Always Sunny.

Yeah, it's like I don't wanna side with the Templars... but I don't want to drive Anders to madness! I don't wanna have to sit there and say "yes the Templars are absolutely right," I want more of a grey area. "Yes, Mages should be free, but... we shouldn't burn down every Chantry and kill innocents for it."

Right. On one hand this new system helps you to play your character as you would by making it harder to meta-game and guess the 'correct' responses, but on the other hand it will be far more difficult to get your desired result, at least until enough people have played it to write guides. Maybe that's the point, but I always meta-game at least a little when it comes to the LIs, I want to get the most out of them.

Why do I get the feeling I'm going to have to play this game multiple times just because I'm going to screw up so spectacularly the first time? :?

I suspect you can still side against the Chantry without going the whole "Let's kill every Templar in existence" option that Anders/Justice seem to want - at least during the story any way. I suspect the rivalry path might be a bit like the coercion skill in DA:O - how you can "convince" Nate that saving Amaranthine is a good idea. You can "convince" Anders that individual Chantry sisters and Templars don't need to be slaughtered out of hand, but it'll send you down the rivalry path with him if you do. Possibly?

Same here. I want to play a freedom-loving mage on my first playthrough, but I don't want to side with templars against them just so I can keep Anders from going all super-cannibal-exorcist on me.

So you could convince him that there's a better way to deal with the Chantry than just killing all the templars/Chantry sisters you see? I like that idea.

@ReallyRue I'm sure you can. From what the story and his bio on the DA2 site say, it seems he's completely hell bent on destroying the Circle - which when you think about it isn't necessarily a good idea, and not even one that he agrees with in Awakenings (his conversation in Awakenings with Wynne indicates as much).

This is what I've been hoping for and assumed might be impossible with Vengeance. Too bad Hawke can't nudge Anders with reminders of his "Even if one innocent person dies, then we're no better than the darkspawn!" argument for saving Amaranthine.

I know, it's too bad Hawke doesn't have any former knowledge of Anders (or Justice) to draw from. Ah well, like any great protagonist, I'm sure she can be very persuasive when she wants to be.Posted Image

Ah, so it seems you can influence whether Anders begins to lean more towards Vengeance.

I look forward to corrupting him.

Yeah, I gather that even when Anders said things like he wished he could strike down every templar -- that was one of those things that people say out of frustration and never actually contemplate acting upon.

I think an apostate mage who has never experienced life in the Circle tower might think bringing down the Chantry is a swell idea on paper, but when it comes to actually doing something about it, might realize that it's both unrealistic and morally wrong.  It will be very interesting to see how this plays out ingame.

This! I don't like the Chantry either but it's not like I'm going to agree with him to burn it and every innocent that gets in the way to the ground. I think this will be the interesting part in the relationship. I do love that the LI for Lady Hawke seem much more complicated than just having to agree with them or doing actions that only required their approval.

Just save like a house on fire so you can go back. I have 182 save files for Origins so far, not counting the DLCs.. Just 'in case'. (Im making a video too that I've planned for a while) =]

In Vengeance's defense, many of those Chantries were made of wood.

Oh I do too, the problem will be figuring out the exact point where I went wrong. :P I hope it's not like the hardening Alistair bit, since I doubt I'll be able to find the answer on the wiki during my first play of DA2.
