Turns out he's actually Irving's biological son, adopted out to peasants, due to the seemingly-random, yet now-revealed-to-be-ironic comment he throws out about "hating that bastard"!

How about Greagoir as his father for something even more ironic. "I hate templars! Especially dad!" Family angst is the staple of any story!
While I have a difficult time believing him to be Wynne/Greagoir's son, I can see, from what we know, his father having possibly been a templar. He said before that he was a fairly devout Andrastian, but evetually lost his faith. Perhaps his faith was established by a templar father who later grew to fear Anders for being able to weild the very power the Chantry warns against. He would certainly remember his parents, having been only twelve when he was taken.

Aa far as the claustrophobia thing goes, anyone reckon that may also be part of the reason he keeps escaping the Tower?
I do agree with this, also. The Tower definitely has a feel of being a very small area, where everyone knows everything about one another. Add to that that it isn't very roomy to house that many mages, many of them sharing rooms with three to twenty or so other people, and I could easily see someone becoming very claustrophobic, both physically and emotionally (which is why I get the impression that Anders doesn't like being tied down, to anything, even the Grey Wardens).
