@Threeparts: I agree, I would like to see his claustrophobia touched on more. It always struck me as something he'd have to get over, what with being in the tower and all. Especially if he ever tried to escape in some manner than required him to be in a tight space, like hiding in a crate or something.

@ReallyRue: That's something I've been wondering too, why they allowed him to live long enough to escape so many times. I heard of a theory that he might be Wynne's son, but that seems a bit too forced for me to get behind. I have a feeling that if BioWare does reveal why the Tower was so lenient it will probably relate to why he wanted to escape so badly.

Edit: Spelling fail. :?

Based on some hints David Gaider gave in the last thread about more DA books, it looks like the next novel will be about Wynne's son.  Who knows, that still could be Anders, in his early years, but I'd be surprised if they were the same person.

It could be that Irving kept wanting to give Anders chances, because he saw something in him, or maybe the standard procedure for escaped mages who don't use blood magic is to give them another chance.  Anders is just an extreme example that they didn't know how to handle.

Turns out he's actually Irving's biological son, adopted out to peasants, due to the seemingly-random, yet now-revealed-to-be-ironic comment he throws out about "hating that bastard"!

I'm just going to be absolutely certain he is Wynne's son until I am given undeniable proof to the contrary.

Ever since people started posting songs that fit Anders a few days ago, I've suddenly started focusing a lot more on the lyrics and meaning behind the music that I listen.

Today I found one that I think really suits Anders' and Vengence's precarious relationship. Godsmack - I am
Vengeance is basically trying to explain to Anders that he should just accept the possession because he's here to stay. I especially like the second verse. :)

I remember when Anders was first announced for Awakening, I was convinced that he was Alistair's brother and was the baby at the end of Calling. Then Gaider crushed my hopes. :crying:

So now I always view his parentage with suspicion. At least now we don't have to worry about any more Maric bastards.

... Or do we?! *shifty eyes*

I would laugh if Anders ended up being Wynne's son.  Somehow I think it's improbable but hey, what a twist.

I've been thinking about music a lot too,

'Brothers on a Hotel Bed'- by Death Cab For Cutie, has some parts which really remind me of Anders. Particularly at the beginning.

'Iris'- by The Goo Goo Dolls, and 'Empty Space'- by Air Traffic, also give me an Anders-type feeling :) Maybe their not spot on but their all beautiful songs either way <3

Which means that Fenris and Merrill might be safe!

I still like the idea of him being Wynne's son, just because she is so holier-than-thou and all Stockholm'd Syndromed out in regards to the Circle and the Chantry (she's also a hypocrite). It would be perfect to imagine her slowly dawning horror that Anders, the adorable **** and troublemaker, was hers.

But knowing Gaider is writing a book about her son, I'm resigned to his parents being Not Important.

How about Greagoir as his father for something even more ironic. "I hate templars! Especially dad!" Family angst is the staple of any story! Posted Image

Bringing some Metallica into the playlist (I'm at work at the moment, so can't throw YouTube links up, but videos/lyrics ought to be easy to find)...

The whole thing with Vengeance makes me think of "Sad But True".

Lady Hawke trying to help Anders with "controlling" Vengeance, etc. would fit "Until It Sleeps".

If there's a dark path that involves Vengeance utterly taking over Anders, then you've got "My Apocalypse".

As far as the claustrophobia thing goes, anyone reckon that may also be part of the reason he keeps escaping the Tower? You know, besides the fact that the entire structure is a gilded cage/prison?

Also for the fact that Anders was taken from his parents at age twelve from a normal life where he supposedly lived on a farm (he says he set a barn on fire) and claims his mother was reluctant to let him go and his father was glad.
And Anders can meet Wynne in Awakening.

Still, the guessing is fun. :wizard:

I know that would exacerbate my claustrophobia. And the Solitary he was in didn't help.

While I have a difficult time believing him to be Wynne/Greagoir's son, I can see, from what we know, his father having possibly been a templar. He said before that he was a fairly devout Andrastian, but evetually lost his faith. Perhaps his faith was established by a templar father who later grew to fear Anders for being able to weild the very power the Chantry warns against. He would certainly remember his parents, having been only twelve when he was taken.

I do agree with this, also. The Tower definitely has a feel of being a very small area, where everyone knows everything about one another. Add to that that it isn't very roomy to house that many mages, many of them sharing rooms with three to twenty or so other people, and I could easily see someone becoming very claustrophobic, both physically and emotionally (which is why I get the impression that Anders doesn't like being tied down, to anything, even the Grey Wardens).

Yay, more music for the playlist! I listened to one of those song recommendations off and on all day yesterday, I liked it so much. <3

I still want to believe Wynne's baby was Greagoir's, even if it isn't Anders. I just think Irving is too obvious. She's just waaay too okay with the templars.

However, I'm torn. I don't want to be anymore spoiled than I already am (in regards to gameplay and dialogue, aside from the demo and if Anders is M/M). How spoilary is this piece? If it's just fighting, then I'll definitely take a peak.

It's not even really about him, it's just a clip where he's in the background and they're talking about the Deep Roads. He doesn't talk. I don't know why they wouldn't provide a better video for an article about his reveal.

EDIT: I take that back. He DOES speak, during the fighting! I can't believe I didn't notice that. When Hawke's health is down, he says, "Hold tight!" And heals him.

That makes me way more giddy than it should.

Up to date playlist!

And, ooh, I like the Wynne/Greagoir theory! I know that Wynne said that mage babies are raised by the Chantry, but he could have been adopted out at a young age to a family from the sticks. It's stretching, but that's what fandom does best, right?

This is from a couple of weeks ago when Anders was first introduced.  It's not spoilery at all, IMO, we don't even hear him talk in the cutscene, it's just Varric, his brother and Hawke, with Anders in the background.  Then the fight scene starts, nothing real spoilery there, unless you don't want to see the Deep Roads or possible monsters.

And Greagoir is suspiciously friendly towards Wynne! She might be only mage he doesn't dislike.

A sensible stance!

On a completely unrelated topic, do you guys reckon Anders will be the most powerful healer we pick up in DA2, similar to Wynne in Origins, or will he be more focused towards DPS now that he comes with Vengeance sprinkles on top? Has there been any news on his unique spec? Someone posted earlier that it had to do with Fade powers, which... well, isn't very informative.
