No Greg Ellis? ):

*Ianto clip*

Honestly, as long as I get Anders being cute and snarky at least some of the time, I'll be happy.

But Gaiderade saying he can't explain the change in VA without spoilers is a little worrying :U

Why do I get the creepy feeling Anders might end up rocking on the floor and crying like that? Posted Image
Ianto is also strangely appropriate, what with Eve Myles voicing Merrill.

Oooh!  Eve Myles is Merrill?  I'll have to give her another chance now.  (I was prepared to hate her since she looks A LOT like Moira, my Warden.)

This spoiler had better be a calm good reason. Why bring Greg in if you're not going to use his work? If he ends up voicing anyone else I'll throw a fit. That's just maliciously teasing us.

I believe Greg Ellis' name was on the list of additional voice actors.

If he were voiceing Anders at all he'd be listed next to his name, along with the new VA.

I know I should give him a chance and see what he's capable of, but while I'm still interested in Anders' story, some of the enthusiasm I had for seeing my favourite character back again is fading.

This is it for me, too. While the character they are presenting would be intriguing no matter what, I have a feeling that they are going to make him tragic and, with him being so different, it will feel empty if he's not recognizeably Anders for at least a part of the game. One of the more interesting hooks, from my perspective, is who he was in Awakening (self-possessed, funloving, flirtatious but compassionate) compared to what he has the potential to become because of the demon. Right now I trust that he will be, as Jennfer Hepler stated, sarcastic Anders sometimes but changing his voice seems like a contrary move and one that might lessen the impactfullness of his character concept.

It's really easy to understand all the disappointment. It'd be similar if Alistair made a cameo but was very SERIOUS and had a different voice actor to boot. But... there's little use in despairing when we haven't played the game yet. Given Ms. Helper's few comments about his personality, I suspect that we will still have at least some of that old Anders ... just delivered with a new voice now. It's sad, yes... but I wanna give this guy a shot.

I won't make any judgements until I see him in game. Don't want to be depressed, maybe there's no reason for it. And, well, if he's so different, we can always call him Flanders and pretend that real Anders is bloody happy with Wardens, getting drunk with Oghren and dancing naked on commander's desk every evening. Around his staff, yeah.

Comment from Gaider from the voice actor forum in response to someone who asked why they didn't just make a new character.

"Possibly because we have an excellent reason to use this character? Something you may not even know about, yet? That and it's possible for a character to have changed while still being recognizeable as the person you knew? He's not there simply for fan service, after all."

Cautious optimism is the way to go here, everyone.

Ms. Hepler didn't even write Anders in Awakening. What she perceives to be his personality may not be the case. I wouldn't take that as word of god that we're going to see the same person.

Guys I think Adam Howden is Anders' VA is because they need a mix of Anders and justice's voices yes. And Adam Howden Vocie Darion in the Golems of Amgarrak which i played and he had a very good voice for him. Let's see what he brings to the Anders table.

While I can understand your disappointment, Anders fans, there might have been practical reasons why Greg Ellis couldn't voice Anders. Maybe he just wasn't available for an extended period. Or maybe he just wasn't interested in returning to the role.

He got replaced with a good VO, however. Silas Corthwaite/Constable Aiden? Nice.

When asked about it on Facebook, Greg Ellis said "I believe I am" and seemed pleased that fans were excited to have him back in the role, so I assume he did do some recording, before they decided to go in a different direction.

Basically Anders is going to sound very different, have a very different outlook, and look very different in DA2.  I'm still wondering why they didn't just create a new character, but I'll try to go in with an open mind.  As said above, my Hawke doesn't know the character.

Come on, cheer up, maybe you guys will love his new VO even more?
My version is: Anders caught cold and his tonsils were removed; the surgeon was drunk and damaged his vocal cords a little.
I think Anders probably caught cold because, as the result of his transformation into an abomination and back again, his robes were torn into pieces and he had to run naked through the forest.  Naked Anders... I'm sure he'll still be a lot of fun even without his tonsils! :wizard:

I'm going to remain optimistic about Anders Posted Image

It's either that or go insane speculating on how he may have changed. Posted Image

I choose the former!

Anders is my favourite character after Shale, so i am very happy to have him back. I did not like Justice that much, i found him a little dull to be honest, so i welcome the change. While we might have another VA, i will not judge untill i have heard it on my TV.

[delurk]After hearing the news that Greg Ellis isn't back voicing Anders, it felt like someone had pulled the rug out from under me. *wibbles* First, I hear the news that we're not moving because of a very poor relocation package, and now this... Y U DO DIS, BIOWARE?!? I has a sad. A very BIG sad. Posted Image

I'm probably going to spend way too much time analysing DG's comment in regards to the reason for the change in Anders' VA. He said revealing why the VA was changed was considered a spoiler. I'm guessing it must have something to do with Anders' story. Why else would someone need to keep tight-lipped on WHY Howden was used instead of Ellis? A major head-scratcher, that.

After having calmed down somewhat after hearing the news, I think I'll give the new VA a chance before rendering my VA verdict. His voice is certainly pleasant enough to listen to.

Howden is the same guy who voiced the caged prisoner in Origins at Ostagar in DAO and Constable Aidan in Awakening, yes? If I'm not mistaken, he also voiced the guard in the prison where you find Nathaniel Howe. You talk to him a bit before he goes off to collect Seneschal Varel.

Back to finishing my Awakening playthrough, then. It won't play itself, though it'd certainly be a sight to see if it could.[/delurk]

Hmm... maybe the spoilers-in-question aren't just Anders-related, but storyline related? Ellis could be voicing a major plot-related character instead? Clearly, Cullen is a secret party member. Hmm... The optimist in me wants to believe that it's gotta be something big. *ponders*

Okay, so get this idea. Anders is still fully alive. But he remembers all the people that Vengeance has killed and devoured. And it's happened too many times to count. Not just the facts, but the details. Every bite. Every drink of blood. It has sent the true Anders into the darkest corners of his own mind where he does nothing but scream. And that which walks is just the slightest fragment of himself.

That is incredibly disturbing.

I doubt it is THAT dark. Hepler already came on here saying that what had happened in the short story is sort of as dark as Anders has ever gotten, up until you meet him. It was his first and last incredibly bad day before moving to Kirkwall.

There is a reason for the new VA and I'm not going to cry blasphemy until I play the game and get a rounding of the plot / character. We all knew Anders is, essentially, a different character. He's Justice + Anders. I'm not sure if its even fair to CALL him Anders anymore. He is something else... entirely.

I definitely sense more tragic than comedy relief. The comedic relief of the game seems to be going to Isabela + Varric. However, Anders still seems to be playing a deeper plot related role. I get the feeling he has sort of filled in Alistair's shoes. We shall see.

I'm reserving judgement. But I'm also a little disappointed. With Greg Ellis, more than anyone :(. He certainly seems to THINK he voiced Anders!

A little surprised by the sheer angst caused by a Voice Actor change. Posted Image Predictions of mass misery seem a bit... overdone, seeing as we've only had one actual scene of Anders, and that was when Justice was in control. I, for one, am remaining excited that Anders is back and improved. That's not to say I didn't love Anders in Awakening, but he was kind of a one-trick-pony. Something happens, Anders says something funny, I giggle, we move on. Repeat until endgame.

If this improvement means Anders needed a different voice, then I'm all for it.

Guess which crazypants Templar is coming back, allegedly?

Greg Ellis isn't Anders?

The hell? There is no real reason to do that. He made Anders, Anders.
