I wouldn't be so confused and upset if Greg Ellis hadn't actually said he was voicing Anders. I'd like to know why that mix up happened. And yes, I know that voice actors see very little of the game production process, but considering he's such a major role this time around I would have thought Ellis would know *shrug*

I'm still extremely keen for Anders, don't get me wrong. And from what we heard in the small amount of footage we've seen I've got nothing against the new voice actor. And I have EVERY confidence that Jen Hepler will be able to write his adorable snark just as well as DG did. So... yeah, a shock, but not the end of the world.

A little surprised by the sheer angst caused by a Voice Actor change. Predictions of mass misery seem a bit... overdone, seeing as we've only had one actual scene of Anders, and that was when Justice was in control. I, for one, am remaining excited that Anders is back and improved. That's not to say I didn't love Anders in Awakening, but he was kind of a one-trick-pony. Something happens, Anders says something funny, I giggle, we move on. Repeat until endgame.

If this improvement means Anders needed a different voice, then I'm all for it.

It's like they're promising us ice cream when every indication is that they're serving salmon. That doesn't mean salmon is bad, but I came here for the ice cream. We haven't tasted the dish yet, and who knows, it might be an amazing salmon ice cream milkshake that shouldn't work but somehow does, and revolutionizes what we know about ice cream. But for now all we know is that it's pink, flaky and it smells fishy. It's hardly bolstering my faith.

@RinjiRenee: I'd be kind of pissed if they changed the voice of a returning character promoted to LI just because of a cameo from Cullen.

Maybe Anders gets vocal in the romance cutscene and Greg Ellis wasn't comfortable moaning into the microphone.

Greg Ellis isn't voicing Anders? That is the first piece of disappointing news I have heard about Dragon Age 2, as far as I am concerned.

@Aris I DG seems to think there's a good reason for it. I'm happy enough with that.

I've been listening to clips of Howden's voice on this casting agency's site, and I just... can't get into the idea of having him as a romance. I'll just keep expecting him to bust into an ad for the Gameboy Advance. He has such a radio voice, and he sounds so young! I am amused.

Haha, Greg Ellis was capable of that same radio voice... and why is that site giving a 500 internal server error now?!

Jennifer Hale isn't Shepard
Peter Falk isn't Columbo
Leonard Nimoy isn't Spock

It's definitely jarring, and I've JUST played Awakening, Anders was really the most memorable part of the game and why I would play it again. That said I do like the voive he has in his tiny intro clip we've seen, so I keep my hopes up and am willing to get Howden a try. Like someone pointed out it's entirely possible this new voice actor will actually be more loved. OR there will be two camps; Elis supporters vs Howden. Like Sean Connery vs Roger Moore for Bond.

He sounds way too much like Carver to me. If I bring Isabela, Carver and Anders with my Lady Hawke I'm going to have a lot of trouble figuring out who's talking.
