Anders is a joke. Justice was pretty cool in Awakening, but Justice inside of Anders doesn't make up for Anders being a joke. I could not take him seriously in Awakening, therefore he shall be turned into a smoldering pile of ash! I desire choice Bioware the choice to purge Anders from "my" gaming experience!

If it makes you feel better, you will almost certainly get the chance to kill and/or hopelessly doom Anders if Bioware follows the Origins formula.  Every single one of the Origins companions could be killed (some more or less permanently than others, but hey).

Personally I love Anders and in all of my files he will be showered in gifts and snuggles.  That can make up for the misery you put him through!  It will even things out!

In my opinion I think Anders will end up being the Alistair of the series game. More tied to the plot than other party members, besides Varric.
Is the impression I'm getting anyway. He might have a set scene where he can die like Alistair too. Or he can be completely expendable and the only thing he does is give you a map and have blue glowy eyes.

Yeah, I have a feeling that Anders and Merrill are tied to the main plot, and we have to keep them at least to a certain point.  We'll see how that works out.  I can't really judge Merrill yet, so I have no opinion on the matter.

I'm thinking I'll have to ban myself from the site until the 8th, because I'm *really* trying to avoid spoilers this time around...but the moment I think a thread might have new info, I click on it, instinctively.  This is gonna be tough.  I really want to be surprised by the Anders plot, I think it has tons of potential, but going in blind for once should be for the best...I think...

Sooo, I've come back, briefly, because when listening to my music today I discovered another song that reminds me of Anders It seems I only stop by here to drop song ideas--I lurked in the Fenris thread until just recently.

So here's another song for you. A lot less happy than Magic Man, but Anders probably has enough problems that he can't be happy all the time. The title, especially--and really the entire song--make me think of Anders now.

I want to avoid spoilers the first time through (I totally missed out on getting my heart broken by Alistair my first time through DAO and regretted finding out about the break-up before my second character got to the Landsmeet). However, I am a total spoiler **** and have no willpower so I'll know everything by the time I get my first Hawke out of the CC.

Yeah, I have a feeling that Anders and Merrill are tied to the main plot, and we have to keep them at least to a certain point.  We'll see how that works out.  I can't really judge Merrill yet, so I have no opinion on the matter.

This is what I think, too.  It seems like meeting Anders and Merrill are both part of the main plot, so I think they'll serve as the "Alistair and Morrigan" love interests.  Not in personality, but in that they're pivotal to the main plot.  I could be quite wrong, of course, but Merrill and Anders were the last companions to be revealed and they're being careful not to reveal much about them.  That leads me to think that saying too much about either of them would be too spoiler-y.

Agreed! There has to be a reason why they decided to bring in a character from Origins as a party member. Plus it fits in with the whole Chantry vs Mages problem brewing in Kirkwall/Thedas.

Oh man, I hope that's actually true. Especially if Anders is bisexual (I know, I know--but I won't believe it until I see it for myself) because.... wow! It was one thing to romance the "straight" options in DA:O, Alistair or Morrigan, who both had a huge impact on the plot, and another thing entirely to romance the bisexuals, who felt extremely second-string. If Anders is bisexual but also a huge influence on the story? That's awesome. It's so awesome, I can't even explain it.

A part of me hopes that Anders is not important to the story in the similar way Alistair was. Because it gives more freedom to relationships. I hope Varric is the only really important character, because we see him in the present days.

Edit: In all seriousness I agree with Miri on the part that they're mostly one being now, though, much as I want Justice back. ;^; Here's hoping we can give them spurts of consciousness.

That's my impression too. The whole "MPD" thing would be extremely difficult to do without it coming across as cheesy, imo. Or without it sounding too much like Gollum.

My assumption is that we will see "Anders" primarily, and during key moments, Vengeance will rear his ugly head. I could very well be proven wrong, but we shall see!
