oh, poor justice. i'm glad he's back. i just wish he was still a spirit of justice. anders and justice were the two best characters from awakening. maybe there will be some sort of happy ending and justice is returned. should be very interesting to say the least.

So, this pic cropped up a while back in the Merrill forum, and maybe I'm just talking out of my hat here, but I'd say it's likely that femHawke is talking to Anders here, and not Merrill. The other character is talking about summoning a spirit, Anders has a spirit inside him. Maybe this is a conversation when Hawke realises what's going on with his situation.

Watching the gameplay footage on GI (far too much) you can see the skill buttons when they (briefly) switch to Anders' POV and there is DEFINITELY a JUSTICE button (the scales symbol). So it looks like you have the option to summon Justice in battle. WOOT.

I'm on my little notebook and can't see that symbol, unfortunately. Are you sure it's for Justice? I'd already seen that video before, but thank you for taking the time to post the link for me.

I always have it in my head that Anders and Oghren are actually BFF and they just snark at each other for the fun of it.

And regarding the Justice symbol - I'd take a screen capture but I'm on MY notebook and it doesn't have that feature. It's the balancing scales symbol in yellow, second from the end on his skill buttons bar. Right near the end of the video.

Wow, either you have really good eyes, or your notebook is better than my notebook!  I'll check it out later when I am on my desktop. Again, thanks for pointing it out. How awesome would it be to call Justice to fight? Like a little Pokemon ball. Go, Justice!

Oh hey, nice!  And yes, that is a brain, but it has arrows deflecting from it, probably has something to do with fortifying the mind against certain effects or something.  

Certainly is the scales of justice.   We'll see what that ability can do for him.

A thread says that Gameinformer says that Anders stole a map from the Grey Wardens and for that is a mandatory companion.

EDIT ... because Hawke has to go to the Deep Roads.

I think that the yellow spells are the specific Ander's spec. So it seems is a spirit healer, thoug the sustained yellow one isn't present in the Spirit Healer tree.

Then his personal spec might just be a modified Spirit Healer line. I wonder if Merrill's will be a modified Blood Mage line or a blend of Blood Mage/Keeper.
