Oghren: "Oh no, big templar man! What are you going to do with that sword?"
Anders: Eww.
Oghren: Don't play with fire unless you want to get burned, son.
Just seems to me that he'll be the straight one. I can't really see him being bi after flirting so much with female wardens only.

You know, I find it really interesting how well the team who made Anders' face kept with his original model. The returning characters had updates, but Anders looks pretty close to his original appearance.
I dunno... to me his face went from angular and sexy to all girly.

And saying that he saw himself settling down with a wife and "a few nubile mistresses" iirc.

What irks me about this story is that it wasn't handled within the Wardens, which is what my Warden-Commander would have done. My Commander would have also arranged for Rolan's immediate transfer to Weishaupt for questioning.
I'm starting to formulate a theory that the Chantry saw that (this version of) the Warden was soft on mages, was harbouring an apostate, and helped said apostate murder several templars while breaking and entering with the intent to destroy a phylactery. So they pulled some strings and when the Warden Commander left to fulfill his or her epilogue, the new Commander the Grey Wardens sent from Weisshaupt was sympathetic towards the Chantry and perhaps was even an ex-Templar themself. This new Commander then recruited Rolan specifically to root out Anders and any other signs of malifecarum within the Fereldan Order members.
I like to think that it all got a bit political, with the Wardens and Chantry striking a deal far away in the Anderfels that royally screwed over the Fereldans.
This deal wouldn't just screw over Fereldans, it would screw over the Wardens. I just can't see any Warden-Commander in his right mind making such a deal. And those Templars weren't murdered - the dumbasses made the mistake of attacking Wardens and got put down, hard. Of course, I think the whole Freedom for Anders quest was a load of BS, anyway.

Yep, that's why I think this is after our Warden left Vigil's Keep. Whoever we left in charge, or whoever they left in charge (I'm actually guessing they sent someone used to command from Weisshaupt after our Warden leaves) may have made a deal with the Chantry to hand Anders over, or to simply gain more power within the Order.
I think its pretty clear. Rolan joined the Warden's to spy for the templars (wonder what happened when he found out about the limited life?). He saw Anders and Justice make their deal, took it to the Warden Commander who agreed that if Anders was an abomination that he had to die. I'm generally on the mages side but the evidence would have been fairly clear about Anders, Rolan was around when it happened. So I can't exactly blame the Warden's for sanctioning his killing.
What irks me about this story is that it wasn't handled within the Wardens, which is what my Warden-Commander would have done. My Commander would have also arranged for Rolan's immediate transfer to Weishaupt for questioning.
My Warden would have arranged for a foot of steel to suddenly protrude from Rolens back.
Yea, I don't like traitors in my ranks.

See, I always got an either/or vibe from him, but that may have just been me as a player. I completely missed Herren and Wade, so my radar if off anyway.

That'd come after finding out just how much he leaked to the Chantry. I don't like traitors either - whether they be blood mages killing their fellow Wardens or Templars spying for the Chantry.

This Awakening Epilogue:
"Anders will remain with the Grey Wardens to train the Order's next generation of mages. When he is called by the Circle of Magi to deliver a lecture on the nature of the Architect - much to the templars' dismay - he tells the Commander of the Grey that his time with the Wardens is over. No longer a part of the Wardens, the Chantry brands him an apostate, but never captures him. He is last seen on a pirate ship with a familiar woman."
How do I get it? If it really is Isabela then I would like to get that Epilogue and se what happens in DA2.
This is the ending I got as well here are my variables:
Awakening *SPOILERS*
Warden is a Cousland married to Alistair
Friends with Anders
Tells Anders she will return to court
Defends Anders against templar lady
Does not kill the Architect
Fully upgraded Vigil's Keep
Left soldiers with the farmers
Defended Amarithine
Does not kill Architect's envoy and gets him to help out

*severe disapproval*
Mind you, when I play DA2, I will try to emancipate the circles, but I won't hesitate to kill Anders who is clearly an abomination now. Shame on you bioware.

I'm sure Justice/Vengeance only favors females too.
Hmmm... that one I could actually see going both ways. He probably wouldn't really care if someone was male or female, considering he's a spirit and spent his whole life as a personification of Justice.

Anders: Not when I'm naked I don't.

Absolutely. Good thing for Rolan that my Warden-Commander left throught the mirror before this happened. Rest assured, if Maeglin (my 'canon' Warden Commander-bloodmage) found out what Anders had done, he would have killed Anders himself. Maeglin is quite capable of shooting his own dog and Anders had become an abomination.....no excuses. However, when you join the Grey Wardens, you join the Grey Wardens and what Rolan did was treason.

Whether he'd actually go anywhere with it in practice, I don't know, but Anders is awfully good at yanking people's chains. I don't put much past him in that department.

@Polaris I think I will reserve judgement on the "clearly an abomination" thing until I see a bit more of his character.
I don't have to. Demon? Check. Possessing a mage? Check. Mage can't (reliably) control it? Check.
Abomination....and I'm usually sympathetic to mages, but Anders is an open-and-shut case, and I blame Bioware for making us "suffer" for not being sufficiently sympathetic to the Chantry position.

I actually didn't take that one the same way. To me it seemed more like his typical joking, purposely not answering the question to bug Nathaniel. He never really answered any of Nathaniel's serious questions about mages- always deflected them with humor.

Indeed, Anders is clearly acting quite a lot like Connor and not at all like Wynne, from the get-go, and my characters even had reservations about Wynne.

If he were willing to openly flirt with guys in Awakening, why didn't he flirt with the male Warden when he did flirt with the female Warden? Also, people still insist Alistair is secretly flirting with their male Warden.
I'm not saying he can't be the bi LI, I'm just saying I wouldn't be looking to Awakening to tell you.

Interesting to note that it doesn't appear Justice has turned into just some one dimensional homicidal killing machine maniac, since remember, he takes over during the Anders trailer too, but only to defend his healing sanctuary place, and he obviously doesn't slaughter Hawke's party. So, you know. That's good.
My understanding was that Anders was pushing down Vengeance's influence, and then suddenly becomes aware of Hawke and threatens him. Not that Vengeance was doing it.

I put it in the same camp as my actions with Connor, who I also spared. If there's a way to purge the demon from him, even if it it required lyrium and the assistance of the Circle, my Warden would attempt to do it. Anders didn't make a deal with a demon - he made a deal with a spirit that he believed was good, and that my Warden also knew and believed was good. He wasn't in control of himself when he killed the Templars, just as Connor wasn't in control when he killed the people in Redcliffe Castle.
My Warden would undoubtably kept him confined while she sought assistance, and would defend herself if he attacked her, but executing him in cold blood would be a tough decision.
