However..... with the Normandy 2 having the Kodiac...an unarmed shuttle.... I wish it would have a fighter aboard as well... would make for some epic side missions. I was just replaying the side mission in the Decoris system of the Sigurd's Cradle nebula where you disable the false beacon.... and for the first time I realized that those weren't sky cars in the room you are fighting in.... they were fighters! Can't think of another level where you actually see them.

Would be nice if it had turrets, that you could shoot as part of the gameplay....a bit like Luke and Han Solo in Star Wars.

The crew just needs to be more animated. Have them walk around and do other things... maybe even put the showers to use. :bandit:

That reminded me that one thing I noticed about ME2 in general was the lack of "roaming" NPCs, which were a feature of previous Bioware games. Places like the Zakera Ward could have used a couple of people walking about.

There's a shot of the Presidium from Anderson's window that shows roaming NPCs, but that's the only place.

I hope we get to keep the Normandy SR2 in ME3, because I love the look and everything about it! :P

not too huge, but it obviously need Stairs instead of a crappy elevator, so we can make our duty in it faster and actually APPRECIATE the design of the ship instead of appreciate the loading screens.

I miss the SR1, but it isn't going to come back. Or maybe we will get a choice in ME3 (doubtful). We'll probably be sticking with the SR2. If we rejoin the Alliance, hopefully they give us a larger crew and the Normandy music returns.

Also digging the fighter idea. Give us access to the loading dock with the Hammerhead and the *cough* Mako *cough*. Oh, and give us a Mantis gunship too. I want EVERYTHING!

I do prefer the smaller tighter feel of the SR1 however I suppose they are not designed for the same thing. SR1 for short recon missions. SR2 for long extended missions so i guess it kind of makes sense that is bigger, more self sufficient and more spacious. Could have used a few more crew members tho, I agree.

I agree, though I think the spacious isn't really used efficiently. Big hallways are nice, but more rooms where people can get some modicum of privacy or focus might be better.

It's always funny when you consider the fact that for all of its massive size, the SR2 is pretty.. barren. Hardly any crewmates, not that many sleeping quarters for people or anything going on at all. It's a sterile environment, devoid of depth and life.

Eh, SR2 is a pretty cool ship. Blows up Collector's and doesn't afraid of anything.

It's cool, and it's perfect for what Shepard needs, really. Sleek, fast, stealth, and with it's upgrades it actually has a nice bit of firepower and armor. I sure could go for one.

I agree with the OP. The Normandy SR-2 was unnecessarily big for Shepard's mission. The SR-1 was just fine. It had the Mako, a working airlock, and elevator that didn't flip-flop between decks, and great ambient music.

I also think it's too big, and too bright and too shiny.

Worst scene in the game is when the Normandy SR-2 departs a space station (I think it was Omega) and you see her hull reflecting the sunlight and blinking twice before the background of space....totally stealth your ass! :D

Good movies filmed on aircraft carriers and submarines would like to have a word with you.

I wasn't saying it can't be done, definitely not. Just not in the traditional "panoramic space opera" sort of way that we have gotten used to. Movies based on submarines tend to focus on the cramped and hot atmosphere and carriers always focus on the big spaces such as breifing rooms and officer quarters. I've spent several years of my life deployed on board small boys (2 frigates, 2 destroyers and 1 cruiser) so I'm used to the realities of a ship that size. The Normandy does have the advantage of only having 30 people or so depending on who you recruit, since I believe the crew is stated at 24 at some point. Still, I feel its lacking in the clutter department.

Bright and reflective outer surfaces make sense, actually. Since the heat radiation is a serious issue, especially for the stealth frigates, they don't need any additional intake from the surrounding energy sources.

But how come the Normandy can't be equipped with something like the Infiltrators' or Geth cloacking devices, to be able to conceal herself in the visible spectre as well, when necessary?

Reading this thread title reminds me that people complained about the size of the Enterprise in the new Star Trek movie, and instead referred to it as the "Monsterprise."

I have always expressed my love for the Normandy SR-2 as I think it is a very impressive looking ship and I never really liked the external looks of the SR-1 however you are right, it is too big.

I never noticed it before untill I saw this topic and then went on to play ME2 on the PS3 but there is just soo much wasted space, soo many empty chairs in the corridor leading up the cockpit.

Only problem I have is that in ME3 I want a new ship, again, so that i can have the fun of re-exploring the Normandy 3.

Also lack of beds is just stupid, Mordin didn't have one, Grunt didn't have one, Thane didn't, Garrus had guns to sleep on. I mean give them proper rooms, or let them wander around the ship doing things.

I like the first Normandy better as far as looks go, but both are far to spacious. They suffer from traditional sci-fi ship-ism, i.e. there is no stuff in it at all. Every real warship is packed in every available space with food, water, supplies, weapons, ammo, DC equipment, spare parts and people. I can understand why though, it would make for terrible level design if it were realistic in that aspect, the same way it would be hard to film a movie like star trek or star wars inside of a ship-like set.

Although, this profile is growin on me:

I've thought of this.

It could have something to do with the ship's partially turian origins. Their species is clearly much taller and wide-bodied than humans, and Shepard did mention that putting the captain's post where it is was a turian-influence design decision.

Not saying that they had intended it for turian use, but it could very well be a leftover feature that they could not effectively work around. Besides, we've all seen the cargo ships, civilian freighters, whatever they are that many side missions took place on. Those actually were quite cramped (especially compared to the Normandy).

Ahh..I'd live to see some of those realities in a game.

Not disagreeing with you or anything but I was stationed on a aircraft carrier once upon a time and though they are big ships but when you got 70+ aircraft of various type and 5000-6000 crew crammed on board, trust me, it's cramped.  Maybe they're roomy compared to subs and the tin cans but to this 6'4"  sailor, it seemed plenty cramped to me.

I liked the SR2, but it felt like a tomb it was so empty except for the mess hall, less empty chairs please!

NO
I love the SR2, it feels more like a person than the SR1 did, more crew would be gellin and i REALLY want to put a couple more bunkbeds in the crew quarters. two more and there would be enough for every no name crew member! (yeah, I counted)
