I've been wondering where the Alistair harem is going to come down. OP is right, by the looks of things they aren't settling in too comfortably anywhere yet. I consider this a good thing. Much as I love the templar (my Wardens couldn't keep their sneaky elf witch fingers off him!), different is good.

Wasn't it in the dev diary at some point? That the companions won't just be static and wait for you to hook up with them? *could be imagining things*

ETA @ Addai DG said they didn't want an Alistair type romance this time around. Perhaps they'll disperse?

What if all characters, accept your sibblings of corse, end up being romancable. Like if you romance so and so, the other so and so won't be romancable. But maybe through your next playthrough it would be vise versa....that would be cool

David Gaider has said that all the companions won't be romanceable, but he really loves throwing us off with stuff like that. For all we know, he could have just been referring to your siblings. I really don't know what to think on this matter.

Also, I woudn't be shocked if he was talking about the sibling being not romanceable.  Aveline wouldn't even be beyond bounds- they did a recent widow as a potential LI in BG2, after all.

As long as Fenris is a LI/romanceable then the rest are just gravy to me honestly.

Sebastian (from the Signature Edition) could be romanceable. So if it's Fenris, Anders, and Sebastian, that's 3 options. That's 1 more straight girl option than DAO. And if it's just Fenris and Anders, then that's the same # as DAO.

EDIT: I feel like Gaider confirmed a long time ago that there are no dwarf romances in DA2, but he could have just been jerking us all around again.  Or maybe all he said was HE wouldn't write it, which still leaves like 4? 5? other main writers to take up the quill.

I'm hoping Varric is a LI. He seems more likely than a DLC companion, IMO.

He said he didn't think he would write a dwarf romance- but he didn't write Varric.  So it's a non issue, as he has said he doesn't see why Bioware wouldn't do a dwarf romance at some point.

Not sure if I'm understanding you right ("Alistair harem?"), but as someone who romanced Alistair, right now I'm kind of hoping Sebastian is a LI.  That said, Fenris intrigues me as well because I'm getting a Valen* vibe from him and I really loved that character.  I'm quite fond of Anders, but I don't feel like I'm dying to romance him.  Of course, all of this is subject to change once I actually play the game.  Last time I kind of zeroed in on Alistair before the game even came out (before we knew much about him), and it turned out he was the right choice for me, but things could be different this go-round.

The way you say that...sort of implies that we weren't already different people with different interests in the first place.  I've "romanced" quite a few characters before Alistair, and they were all pretty different from each other.  Liking one type of character doesn't mean one is too inflexible to like other types.

No offense meant. I was actually trying to point out that very thing - that the commonality that brought a disparate group together (love of Alistair) is no longer present so perhaps those who pursued his romance above all others will evenly split between the available LIs.

Okay....so I never played Awakenings, and am not very familiar with Anders. In the threads that have popped up recently, I've seen him described as a combination of Zevran and Alistair; is that even close to a fair description? Because I am incredibly intrigued by that....

Hmm.  I would say beware of the Texas sharpshooter fallacy there (attempting to find meaning in something that is actually random).  The thing is, you can really say that about the fandom of any character, not just Alistair in particular.

@Erode the Soul I'd disagree with that. I think there are a lot more similarities to Zev than to Alistair (despite a healthy love of sarcasm, but pretty much all bioware characters have that). Have a listen to these party banters (if you're not going to play Awakenings before DA2 comes out) and it'll give you a better idea of what he was like BEFORE our friend the fade spirit came along

Personally, I don't think it's a good description, although it might give you a quick sketch of the character's personality.  I think that comes from Anders being a bit snarky/jokey and bearing a passing resemblance to Alistair, and also having the reputation of being a skirt-chaser.  But ultimately, it's yet another case of "they are alike except in all the ways that they're different."

Anders is like Alistair+Zevran on paper. But if you actually watch/interact with him in game, I think you'll find (at least I did) that he didn't really remind me of either of them.



I would suggest watching some Youtube videos of Anders to get a sense of his personality. Not that it might matter, since apparently they're going a whole different, [spoilery?], direction with him.

EDIT: Also, I think I'm broken, the only guy I want to romance is the one that I am pretty positive won't be romanceable (Sebastian). Varric should've been in DA:O, waaaaaaaaah.

Personally I don't care how hard it this (this adds more depth to the story arc in my oppinion), I just hope she is  a LI. BioWare really has a gift of making people anxious with their silence

I've seen Alistair fans express interest in all three potential LIs (and even say they'd pay for a Sebastian DLC romance, no problem). Alistair is just one banner that people meet up under, but the glue is another as each fan thread takes a social life of its own. We will find our way back to each other eventually, depending on how many fan threads we want to keep up with in DA2, lol. =D
