I just bought MassEffect2 and my experience has been nothing but bad.
The game is nice, a bit story restricive, but EA support is horibile!

Years ago I bought an EA game and diligently registered the game and submitted my email adress.
Now for MassEffect I need an EA account but I can't make one because my email address is attached to an accout that has never had a screen name nor a password.  The recover screen name doesn't work, no email sent.  The link to get account access help, jumps to the account login page that dosen't work.  Every single link I found for help to create/login to an EA account jumps to the login page or says I have to be logged in to access.

This problem is because an account is needed to play the game so I tried the number on the DLA redemption code sheet.  The machine says the lines are now close everyday this week even though I am calling within the announced times.

For days I could not play the game because I did not have an account.  Because there was zero support I could access I created another email account and made a new EA account.  I did finaly get to play the game to see if there is any reason to keep the game.  The game is a good, prety, story restricitve and has long load sequences.

Now with this temporary account suppot options are no better.  I am getting realy PO'd and want an RMA.  Currently my only option seems to be is return the game to the retailer and hope they have some way to inform EA why they are getting games returned.  Yes this is unfair to the poor retailer but what other choice is there?

EA seems to be having an undisclosed issue and has gone to ground and hid.  For shame EA I am discusted with you, your good reputation of the past is now gone.

"Good reputation of the past"

I must be living under a rock, because as far as I am aware EA never had a good reputation with gamers.

If anything the reputation was bad in the past and better in the last 5 years. Though some people can't let go of the mistakes made by the last regime of EA and judge everything about EA on that. What the OP is describing is part of pretty much every  game now. It's all online registering and all that.

That's true, EA are slightly better than they were a few years ago when they'd regularly release half finished bug infested products with no patch or communication ever. They're still nowhere near good enough though.

Its true, EA weren't popular in the past, infact I didn't like them; but this gen, they've been great. They've actually been supportive of their games and have created some fantastic IPs i.e. Dead Space and Mirror's Edge.

It really is a bad idea to make people who honestly purchase a game suffer because some pinheads are coming up with ways to pirate the games. An internet connection shouldn't be required to play a game, nor should a game have to be registerred to play. Not for some who purchases a game through legal channels. Treat the crooks like crooks, and treat the customers like customers. That's my general advice to EA.

I'm stuck dancing to the piper for the time being. But it doesn't win much loyalty from me to have to have a virtual umbilical chord forcibly attached to me in order to play a game I've legitamately purchased.

i have a couple of EA games, dragon age:origins and Awakening, dead space, and mass effect 1 and 2 (pc and ps3) while i have had them i never had any dealings or issues with them, its always been direct with the developers. instead of trying EA why not try the devs themselves? im quite sure they will be more able and willing to help you with it, for the record i played the me2 intro without logging into my account on both pc and ps3 apart from no access to dlc i played without incident

Well I guess my post dated myself. In the days prior to NWN they actually answered support lines and answered questions no charge. Some where between NWN and NWN2 I was asked for support contract number. That was a first I ever heard of a support contract for a game, but I did get my question answer without a contract.

I was also able to play the intro on the PS3. what I couldn't do was start a new game without registering.

The reason for the update is to follow up on what I said. EA has not answered the phone or answered my support email. What was fortunate was my needing to create a temporary email address to register it has been flooded with spam bounced off the EA mailer, In hind sight I am glad it is in the temp account and not in my permanent account. In their defence maybe they have replied but their registered mail port has been black listed because of the other port bouncing.

It can happen, even we where hack for a couple hours once and had to be reauthorized by the up-line remailers. Then again for us it was hours, for EA it seems to be days or weeks. How sad.
