I think that Bioware should develop some kind of crossplatform base so that pc users who develop mods could put their mods on that platform.  Then, xbox and playstation users could download the mods and play them as well as the pc users.  This would ensure continuous play even for console owners and be a good marketing strategy for Bioware.

That would be a great move from bioware :)

Cheers

They have already said that they are working on it. However, aside from the legal restrictions imposed by Microsoft & Sony, you will also need to recompile the mod in new binaries for each platform, it is not as simple and pumping the mod out and downloading it to your 360.

I'm fed up of these console threads.

Please, will you look for 5 minutes at the toolset forum and find about 10 threads related to the very same thing.

Currently, the only way you are going to get your mods onto the Consoles is through Premium modules. Premium modules will be the best content modules that BioWare will repackage and sell as either Free or Paid For DLC.
Thank You.

Yeah, as I understand it, it delayed Dragon's Age quite a bit to bring it to console systems. And possibly cost them several million dollars. I doubt they would do it with just any module, even if it is much simpler to do it once they've made the game and system usable with consoles.

I remember hearing that Bioware/EA might choose the very best user created modules, take them and give them Bioware polish/voice acting and release for a cost. I think it was a Gamespy article I read that in, actually- and that EA's lawyers were overseeing how to keep it all legal and beneficial for all parties. So, yes, the 360/PS3 might be getting a select few user created mods.

That question there is why this has never happened, and most likely won't happen for DA:O either.

For this to happen the modder or modding team would have to be very mature and the module would have to be of a very high quality. I believe in the course of DAO's future there will be 1 - 5 modules of this level of quality, because skill that high is rare.

Also, I doubt BioWare will do this with modules not based on their own lore.

I doubt Bioware would really have to worry about cutting in the modders. I'm sure everything clearly states that anything made with the toolset is owned by EA and or Bioware.

I'd say they need to separate out these forums to get console-related threads in their own place. Or have they ?

If not... why not... its all so completely irrelevant to the majority of people on this forum.

With regards to mods being polished n released by BioWare, I don't think its that unreasonable... look at the quality of mods that came out for the Source engine (Insurgency.. Black Mesa). Lord_Rian you said this hasn't happened before... Counter Strike of course started as a free mod and Valve picked it up. As did Day of Defeat... Portal also was being developed by a few students and Valve picked them up and provided polish etc..

Lets just hope! Cos it would be really good.. and I think a sensible move by BioWare, think how much it would boost the modding community!

Yes, I certainly can't see it happening with anything other than the highest quality mods.

As for the creators, they are not going to be entitled to anything, so Bioware will probably just give them the choice - legally, of course, Bioware can just take the mod, I think, due to the TOS for the Toolset, but I'm betting that they would ask, but not offer any compensation. The fact that they respect the modder's choice is compensation enough.

Of course, should they find a particularly quality project, they may offer something, but who can say? This is all speculation, and aside from the fact that Bioware may take high quality mods to be converted for use on the consoles, we can't say anything for sure.

CDPR did that, as in packaged a group of top community mods with the disks. I believe it was to be packaged with the unfortunate white wolf release. I left before that all started so I don't remember what happened clearly, I think that there was compensation as well. Don't quote me on that :P
