Hey Dukes you seem to know a fair bit about lithos, how about you write a brief paragraph summing up what exactly one is, then we can pop it in the OP?? Could be useful Image IPB

That's pretty much the extent of what I know...just that it's a seperate process involving multiple layers of ink instead of just one (hence why BioWare's lithos are so vibrant). Perhaps just a disclaimer saying that not all of them are actually lithos, some are merely prints and may not look any better than if you were to print it out at home :P

There's already a note to that effect in the Bioshock section which is at present the main culprit; all I can really go on is the seller's description, but I'll expand the colour coding to indicate that anything that doesn't explicitly say "lithograph" is a standard print.

Updated to indicate the likelihood of whether any given item is an actual lithograph or a regular print.  I've decided to include the latter anyway as they may still be of interest to collectors in spite of their unlimited and unlithographic nature since they're still rather nice, but I've made it as obvious as possible where the information is available.

What I haven't done is to rename the topic to "the lithograph addicts' thread".  Yet. :D

That's a curious thing; thanks for the heads-up!  I've added that to the list, though rather pessimistically under "no longer available".

Actually there might be a few left here:

The max the cart would let me add is four.  I called both stores in the chain and they said that they didn't have it so they guessed it might be an online only deal.

Thanks for the update: I've changed the URL.  I'm surprised there's any left at all given the number of Liara fans, I mean it's hours since you posted that link!  Unless their inventory system is broken, that is.

Well that mystery fixed itself.  I guess we'll see if their inventory system is broke soon enough.

I'm rather glad I managed to grab one for myself then!  I figured it was strange that they'd remained in stock for so long; I guess I'll soon find out what happens, both in terms of whether or not I was successful and if their stock is replenished at some point.  Edit: it's perhaps worth mentioning that their postage to Forn Parts is quite expensive; at least compared to the Bioware Store who are notably inexpensive in that regard, although the ~$35 I was charged is still an awful lot less than many other places have hammered me for...

(I hasten to add I didn't delay updating the list for nefarious reasons, though everyone else would've seen your post several hours before I noticed it anyway...)

Concerning the new DS2 litho 2-pack: does anyone know how many were up for sale? All 500, 400 or 250?

Thanks.

they haven't put out a number of total prints yet since it's still a pre-sale thing. EDIT- guess it's 500! =]

as for the dead space lithos... OMG! I LOOOOOOOOVE them!!!:wub:

A friend recently introduced me to lithos and I've been buying them up like crazy for my favorite games ever since. Unforunately I got on the boat too late to snap up the ME 2 lithos but I did snag the DA II ones!!! :D

If you like posters at all, you'll love lithos. I didn't realize how 'artsy' they looked until I actually got some. Plus, it's worth the investment as well, especially with the signed/limited editions.

Don't believe me? Search for 'mass effect 2 lithograph' on Ebay, completed listings. :lol:

The Steinman litho is unsigned. On a side note, my mother said she liked it. That's kind of odd.

I'm still a little confused when it comes to determining if something is a genuine lithograph. Can someone educated the ignorant, please?

Thanks for the info, I'll update the list. :)

I'm assuming (and it's still an assumption until I ask someone in the know for a definitive answer) that it specifically refers to the printing process that's been used and that it's something that differentiates it from the normal (i.e. cheaper) printing process that's used for generic posters and stuff.  I'm also assuming that it isn't just a marketing term and probably can't be used as such without misrepresenting what's being sold; based on that, I'm using the seller's description to determine whether or not something is a lithograph in my list, although I am aware that there may be risks in doing so.

If I manage to find out for certain, I'll post an update to that effect!

I sent the Amazon retailer a question regarding the Liara lithograph and this is what she replied to me:

"As far as the item itself, it's referred to as a lithograph by the distributor. The exact number of how many were printed is not known, but it's definitely a small run as it was a retailer incentive item. It would have helped if they numbered them after they were signed, but sadly that is the way they produced them. :)

It's a good question and although it's the only one we had, and highly likely we'll not see it in stock again (unless we are commissioned to track one down), your inquiry raises my interest as well to see if I can obtain any additional solid information on it. I can reach out to a few industry contacts to see if I can gain any additional info and if I do I will let you know."

I probably have the greatest luck of all time. Anyway if she updates with any new info then I'll pass it along.

The Liara lithograph is probably more like the 'lithograph' in the Dead Space 2 collector's edition-- a small glossy postcard of art from the game.

Not saying it's a bad thing, but it's not the usual lithos we're used to and love :D

It's 24x16.  So maybe two inches smaller than the fullsized ones but definitely larger than the minis.

I see one of the Amazon marketplace sellers hasn't wasted any time relisting one for $350.  I suppose the usual shenanigans was inevitable... <_<

Only $350? So cheap!  :lol::lol:

Come on- we would all do it as well if we needed money.

Of course this is a ridiculously overinflated price they're trying to get but chances are, someone will pay it. That's why they keep doing it.

Y'all need to stop purchasing high dollar goods- let's boycott!!!  :wizard:

but for right now... more lithograph gushing please :P

True, doesn't stop it being annoying though. It's interesting looking at the completed listings on Ebay to see how much they usually sell for: typically a lot less than the prices suggest, though I'm sometimes taken by surprise. Anyway, you're right, we need to find more things to drool over instead! I need no encouragement to moan, after all.

that's the spirit!!

it's the same way that it used to be with the ticket scalpers before the internet (showing my age ^_^).

They'd camp out along with the fans for front row but only to turn around and triple or quadruple the price and sell it back to the very people camping out for days!

supply + demand = price

we just have to shop faster next time to get the best price.. max out those credit cards!!  :lol:

Well nobody should pay that price until we find out how limited the Liara ones are. There might be a thousand of them floating out there or just 50. I would love an official Bioware response on how many were produced but oh well.

What I'm running into with my lithographs is that most of them are pinted on high-quality paper and you can see there's a different sort of printing process than a normal poster would have. I also have one particular poster that was done by covering the enitre poster in ink (or something like it) and then etching away the words and other subject matter. You can distinctly see the two different layers. My friend (she's a big art nerd) has always described it as a "real" lithograph.

Anyone know what that's about?

since the Liara litho was a retailer incentive, I can't imagine they'd make a ton of them- it might have taken purchasing 3,000 books to get it.

I'd say maybe 500 of them were made? or 200?

I can't find any info about it at all so I guess we'll never know. Bioware probably doesn't know off the top of their heads either but I'm sure they could find out, if they had time. =)

It sounds like your friend does!  Maybe you could find out from her and let the rest of us in on the secret. :)
