gameplay wise i can believe that DA2 will be better than BG2 (played it recently and i didn't really like it that much anymore, the story and plot is great but the gameplay....it's not for me now) .
plot wise, i don't know yet since i don't know DA2's plot.

In their dreams. LOL

There was features in DA:O that reminded me of BG/BG2. However, they are all cut from DA2, so I find that hard to believe. For one thing, BG2 was actually patched through and through.

I'll try the DA2 demo, and as my expectations at this moment are below zero, I guess I can only be positively surprised. As it stands, though, the ~only~ thing I am curious about is the story. That might make me pick it up from the bargain-bin in a year or two.

Better teamwork I can believe in. It was very easy to build a one woman army in "Baldur's Gate 2". Kensai/Mage or Ranger/Cleric, anyone? The characters being as memorable or more so is entirely subjective, however; and I take that claim with a grain of salt. Fact is, I doubt any RPG BioWare makes will surpass my experience with BG2. Yes, the game had its flaws, and BioWare games since then have improved upon concepts BG2 introduced. The chances of a new BioWare title bringing so many elements together as BG2 did are slim to none, though. I do not even bother comparing their new games to BG2 anymore. As far as I am concerned that was their magnum opus. It will never be unseated. Never ever, ever never.

Yes, this is entirely subjective. I know there are players out there who dislike or despise BG2. Speaking strictly for myself, they would have to pull off a miracle to knock that game off the pedestal upon which I placed it in my heart.

A deeper tactical experience? Even DA:O was dumbed down from BG2, and DA2 looks to be even less tactical. Is he trying to ****** of PC gamers even more than they already have?

I'll believe that when Obsidian (aka. Former Black Isle staff) work with Bioware again.

I think a lot of people prefer Baldur's Gate 2 is because of the nostalgic factor.

I replayed it recently, and I preferred the improvements in DA:O from a technical point of view.

That may be true for some. Personally, I make it a point to revisit the series annually. The BG games are on my short list of games I never get bored of.

Tbh I don't see BG2 as the best RPG ever. When it was released it was simply the best. But the first games to compete were Planescape:Torment and Morrowind. Nowadays Fallout3/FONV, Dragon Age and Mass Effect are in my book also games I'd name in the same league as BG2. Just that games created nowadays are not standing out as much as BG2 did back then.

Reason I think that no game will be 'as good' as BG2 is that BG2 actually had like 300 hrs playtime. That's just not possible anymore.

I don't see how anything could ever be as good as my imperfect memory of something I enjoyed.

Maybe Bioware doesn't hold BG2 on the ridiculous pedestal most of its fans do? Just a thought.

I liked DAO better than the seven or so hours I played of BG2, but that's just me.

You have one month. Go to gog.com (plug), download it and play it. You'll thank me later.

Honestly most people can't be bothered with the old tech and the amount of reading involved anymore. Even I can't even though I probably played BG2 10 times over the years.

yup, and by then people will rage on the next new bioware game and say that they're betraying their hardcore fanbase of classic games such as DA2.
