Very nice, can' t wait to hear the rest of it. DA:O had an epic soundtrack and therefore must have been hard to follow up, this must have been quite a challenge...

Anyway the start of this new DA2 main theme reminds me quite a bit of this (from one of my most loved movies)

Hmmm... Don't like it much, but it will take more listening to define exactly why. Both themes share common elements and repeat the same musical pattern, but while it works very well in the DA:O theme, I didn't think it worked as well here. The DA:O theme is more stylistically unified, with the drums having both a traditional feel and giving the impression of marching. It conveys a sense of both battle and pathos--perfect for a story of the blight and civil war. The DA2 theme is kind of chopped up into different elements and has a less traditional feel. I suspect that was done on purpose to emphasize the new 'edginess.' Who knows? Maybe it's as perfect for Kirkwall and the DA:O theme was for Ferelden. I have a feeling that Kirkwall is a messed up, stratified and not very nice place to be. Still, I hope that's not something we're going to here in-game very much in that form. One of the things I really liked about the DA:O music was that it both heightened the moments and didn't get wearing on repetition. The new theme is a bit irritating right off the bat, but I lack the musical vocabulary to experss why I find it so, I'm afraid. Something about the changes of tempo and style within it, and the instrumentation.
