Ok so im a ps3 user and didnt play mass effect 1. Ive been playing and im almost finished ME2. Ive been debating to see what new possibilities I could have if I started over and used a girl shepard with a different class. I just want to know if I do this will my previous game be completely erased and replaced by my new one. I feel its a strong possibility but is it possible to have two shepards

Yes, you can maintain multiple careers. I'm also a PS3 noob, so I don't know exactly how many, but yeah - go for it.
