The blood mage specialization supposedly allows you to fuel your spells through health instead of mana. Opting for a high constitution over a high willpower will allow you to keep a low mana pool while being able to fall back on a high health pool. This will allow you to more or less nullify the effects of holy smite.

They only have mental resistance as far as I know, so use any CC spell that doesn't have a mental saving throw (glyphs maybe) If a Templar closes the distance you are going down, there are plenty of ways to keep them out of melee range though, and of course, there are mana pots, I don't see draining a PC's mana as a huge issue, a reaver or something that could very well kill you in one or two shots would be bigger threat than something that can nibble away at your mana.

Don't forget that Templars have a long range short charge time, full mana + chance of stun + damage, ability to hit your mage with before ya can get anything off. I'm thinking Shapeshift before they get it off, Dogging them, running away, or kissing your bum goodbye.

And that would be Leliana or Morrigan? Leliana you could probably let slide as long as she doesn't dabble in blood magic but Morrigan you'd pretty much be forced to autokill as she goes against everything the Templars stand for... she even murdered some according to Penny Arcade.Posted Image

Thats why you don't play this game solo. You use your melee or rogue party members to counter him.

They had it coming.  You can forgive Morrigan anything, she's voiced by Claudia Black.

Be a shapeshifter?

I wonder how a Templar would stand up against a giant bear or spider.

I can see that I'll use 'save' lots and lots. Just because people make suggestions and such, and I know that I just have to try them out. Oh well, I can see I'll be very busy soon as the game comes to Europe.

Maybe you can try to be a shapeshifter ? I guess a giant bear or a corrupt spider is efficient against templars. ^^
I don't know what kind of spells a bloodmage can use, but maybe it can be useful too ?

Edit : Ho sorry... Didn't read the last two posts.

Let's hope shapeshifting/skeletons can't be dispelled then!

To the people that keep saying I should use my party members or that there is no PvP: I already knew that, I'm just trying to get an interesting topic started.

1v1 they are even. Whoever stuns the other first wins. They both have ranged kill moves against the other, so whoever draws faster wins.

And i'll be surprised if the Templar can dispel things when he is already paralyzed.

Okay .. speaking of parylzation spells. In DA:J such spells only last one round, basically paralyzing the mage as much as the monster. Is this the same in DA:O ? I mean this is still a useful strategy, take the ogre out of the action till your guys mop up the rest etc; but it definitely wouldnt work 1v1..

Fortunately Templar aren't immune to magic, they just get bonuses to saves.  I'd say go with spells that don't target them directly, like the glyphs, and AoE spells.  Though if you can get off a Mind Blast or similar and CC them then you win.

As with most fights, it's he who CCs first wins!

Kind of difficult.  Your signature has more words than pixels.

What?  Are you trying to imply it's not an MMO?!?!  Next you'll be implying that my Dark Elf Ranger can't dual wield!

No. Dragon Age Journeys has nothing to do with Dragon Age: Origins as far as game balance goes. Completely different battle system and all.
