Notice that Bethany is also in the team during those bits. They're clearly from before you're....ah...."restricted"....to one of them

Sadly no, you cannot have the Carv unless you're a mage.

Bethany Hawke and Carver Hawke: Hawke's little sister
Bethany is an apostate mage, and his little brother Carver is a warrior.
They're twins, and both are potential companions. The class you choose
to play will determine which of them travels with you, and may even
result in the death of the other.

Wait, I'm getting it for the PC. Yay, mods.
Yes, or maybe there will be DLC a la Darkspawn Chronicles where Hawke dies and Carver and Bethany go on an epic adventure.Ryllen Laerth Kriel wrote...
You can keep Bethany and Carver alive, Hawke just has to die then you watch the rest of the game play out as a series of cutscenes...just like Final Fantasy!

You get Carver and Bethany as your first companions during the beginning. Later one of them dies. If you check the video you se that in a later clip, Carver is gone.MeiWang wrote...
In this video preview Hawke is a rogue, yet he has Carver in his team..

It was confirmed by a dev in thread many, many Internet-ages ago that whoever lives post-ogre-smash is based on your class. Mages get Carver, everyone else get's Bethany. It's a gamebalance and/or story thing.ankuu wrote...
Well i understood that you get different dialogue/option depending on your class. Not that they die depending on your class...i'll try to find the quote tho.
Doubt something like that will be hardcoded. A bigger problem will be ensuring the dialogues afterwards makes any sense. For instance, imagine some angry Templar demanding that your Warrior Hawke surrenders the Apostate that travels with him... only he's traveling with Carver. Stuff like that.XX55XX wrote...
It could be hardcoded into the game... Not everything is easy to change.

Well, the devs haven't said themself that they have to die just that class will depend who stay with you as companion. It's people playing the demo that say you can't. The devs themself still haven't responded to how it works.Nimpe wrote...
I could of sworn I read one of the devs hinting you can let both live somehow... He could of been lying, though, to crush our hopes.

My previous post on this, and the followup. In short, Raygereio's example is the absolute least that would happen. More likely an outright and repeated kaboom at any number of places. So have fun, but ya takes your chances.
