I...I don't understand. Why the hell not?
Well, poo.
Oh well, all it means is that we get a female Qunari warrior LI for DA3.

Yes, yes that is exactly what it means.

Oh nooooo. So sad. Also, that might be the spoiler that stops me from opening another single thread.
(Not your fault OP, but I know way more than I want to now but just can't look away. Why is that?)
Also, Cobra Salad is a cool username.

No...no romance Aveline?
I...I don't understand. Why the hell not?
Because her husband recently died and she loved and was very devoted to him. If you don't understand that, then you probably shouldn't have your Hawke romance her anyway.
Oh, but there will be a flirt button with her. Just hit it at your own risk.

I'd like for Aveline to be handled like Samara, only better
I'm waiting impatiently to discover a really fine woman, LI as yo call it, in the NPC department. So far Isabella leaves me uninpressed, I somehow don't care about Merril or whatever her
Or maybe it will be the forst time in my BW history that my PC will stay single throughout the whole story. A strange conception I must say. But not unwelcomed one.

Liken it to Samara in ME2.
Maybe after 10 years you'll get something. It's been hinted as such.
But again, not romancable per se.

You'd still get the heart icon on the dialogue wheel, you reckon? That would actually be cool, in general, because flirting with non LIs might be realistic, especially if you don't know they are not into it. And maddeningly frustrating (in a good way). Unrequited love would be a great plot point IMO.
I don't think dead husband automatically means you aren't devoted if you move on, though, both in real life and, you know, Jaheira. That might be the case, but it might not. Everyone's different.

I guess now it's either Isabella or Merrill for my Male Hawke.

Don't bring up Jaheira. Even Bioware has said in the [far] past that the romance is meant to assume a large passage of time. However, since that could NOT be represented in the game of BG2, she moves on quickly.
Aveline is how they would undoubtedly have preferred Jaheira had the technology existed at the time. And it's a good bit more realistic.
Play your cards right, and Aveline will move on. Or she won't, but you might get a kiss.
But that'll be about as much as Varric knows, which is, in other words, the end of the game.

Haha. I loved the Jaheira romance. It was a compliment. I also think a woman is allowed to move on quickly if she wants to or that's the way things work out. (Not that I really saw Jaheira that way, anyway.)
I dunno. I don't reckon the PC will get a kiss. I have my own theory about how she might be after 10 years, but I think I might actually keep it to myself.

Yeah. I'm a Jaheria fan and wanted Aveline to be romancable.
But, by the same token, would we really want a romance with such a blatantly obvious parallel? Been there, done that?
Maybe the other recently revealed male companion by virtue of his new inner workings (sheesh, too afraid to even say his name) might be like evil Anomen. I also loved the Anomen romance. Maybe not Anomen himself, exactly, but he was a clever character.

Seems like romance options for male characters have to be non-warriors or elves. Part of me keeps wondering if that's because guys don't want (or marketing thinks guys don't want) romance options who can be perceived as physically stronger than they are.
I'm not complaining about Aveline in particular, just the ongoing trend.

Pfft. She has a dead husband, you have a dead sibling. All it means is that you have something in common!
Hawke: You know what I hate most about family dying? The smell. Corpses are stinky.
Aveline: ...
Hawke: Did your husband stink as much as this? They never mention people soiling themselves in the legends.
Aveline: ...
Hawke: Wow, you've got some muscles! Wish I had you around to haul around my sibling's maimed body.
Aveline: ...
Hawke: So...you doing anything later? I mean, since you're single now, right? No kids, I hope. Hawke don't do the kid thing.
Aveline: ...The darkspawn killed them.
Hawke: Really? Well, all right! Always a silver lining. That's what my sibling used to say before they were torn limb from limb and left to be eaten by inhuman hordes from the blackest pits of hell. I'll see you at eight?

Cant beat boobs front or side
She is not a romance option for the player but there are things with her later… she can come out of her shell to some degree…! That’s one advantage of the passage of time. By the end of the game her husband’s been dead for 10 years. Still could be something later in the game

Keep in mind that these are the same marketing guys who don't give FemShep a trailer and don't let us hear FemHawke for... who knows what reason.
