Film soundtracks usually have about 40-50% hit rate with decent tracks.
Mass Effect had about an 80% hit rate with EXCELLENT tracks.
I am really hoping the standard doesn't drop. So far, no one has been able to console me with their Clint Mansell examples. None of it sounds like Mass Effect, not even remotely.
I suppose that's because none of the films he's scored are like Mass Effect. I would humbly suggest focussing on the fact that that A) his scores don't all sound the same (he ranges from DnB to classical);

And that's kind of what concerns me. Why would BioWare pick somebody to score Mass Effect and fill Jack Wall's shoes who hadn't done anything like it before, as opposed to somebody who was experienced at scoring sci-fi in similar vein, like Christopher Franke for example?

The only explanation I can think of: BioWare is done giving exposition on the universe and making you feel and learn it; this time the focus will be on the emotional level, by letting everything diverge into unexpected and wildly different conclusions, ending the trilogy for good.Terror_K wrote...

Because it may not be the best idea to get someone who will just fall into his standard creative patterns and end up producing a generic Sci-Fi soundtrack that doesn't resonate. There's a certain risk here, but someone with less of a genre background may still get the mood right and find a more fresh approach to it rather than your typcial Sci-Fi movie tropes. Or it could completely backfire, of course.
Being that I'm a huge fan of all Aronofsky's movies, no matter how played the Requiem for a Dream theme is, I'm pretty excited about this. I liked a lot of Jack Wall's stuff too, but this could really be interesting.

There was news flying around saying Jack Wall is done with the trilogy as of ME2 and won't be doing anything for ME3 not too long ago. We just didn't have a confirmation.morrie23 wrote...

Mansell isn't bad, though. I look forward to what he has for us.morrie23 wrote...
Sounds like they were true. Shame, I really liked the work he and this collaborators did on ME1 and 2.

Did Wall have any experience with sci-fi before ME though?Terror_K wrote...

He's anything but bad, I'm quite familar with his work. However very little of it would be fitting for a Mass Effect game. I hope is renowned versitility comes to the fore.

ME3 will be a sci-fi epic. Epic? We got that part covered I think. Sci-fi? Mansell is capable of electronic music.

Why change a formula thats universally acclaimed? Well generally the answer is: You don't. So maybe theres more to it than we know, perhaps they wanted too much money for the third game, or simply arent available due to other projects.
