He's anything but bad, I'm quite familar with his work. However very little of it would be fitting for a Mass Effect game. I hope is renowned versitility comes to the fore.

Well, let's break it down then.
ME3 will be a sci-fi epic. Epic? We got that part covered I think. Sci-fi? Mansell is capable of electronic music.

I'm confident he'll do a great job and will produce a soundtrack that is fitting for the ME universe, however it's totally understandable to be slightly apprehensive when BW change composer (for whatever reason) for the third game.

But that is still not confirmed. We don't know if Jack Wall and Sam Hullick will return.

Jack's not coming back:

Dear People Who Love Mass Effect -
So...maybe it's time to actually say something?

Working on the Mass Effect series was epic. It was mind-bending, soul-coughing, astral-plane traveling delicious loveliness - all the way. The games themselves are works of art. I wouldn't change one note of it that myself, Sam, David, Richard or Jimmy wrote. As you may have noticed by now, I am not returning to score the final game. The reasons are much too complicated to explain here, but suffice to say that the people at BioWare and I are still friends and we all really still like each other a lot. More importantly, the score for ME3 will be great and even more important than that, the game will liikely be (being BioWare and all) super duper fantastic.
Clint Mansell is cool. Enjoy.
Oh and thanks to everyone for the kind words here and over the years. For those of you who didn't say nice things, that's cool too. I'm still searching for the perfect chord. If you guys see it laying around, let me know, ok?
See you in another game in another crazy universe!

-Jack

If he's working with Wall of Sound, then great. If he's replacing them, not so great.

Damn. Will Sam Hullick return though? He doesn't work with the Wall of Sound I think.

Interested in seeing what he does, as long as the soundtrack isn't drowned in violins.

Normally I'd be worried but Mansell is pretty damned good at what he does. I think this will turn out fine. The dude can go from epic (Requiem) to dreamy and mysterious (Moon) with ease.

No idea about Sam Hullick, so it's possible he might return if he's not part of Wall of Sound. Jack Wall (and I'd imagine the rest of Wall of Sound) aren't involved though.

Yup. I'm almost convinced he will pull it off.

We need more of this Mansell. In the right dose take it back to the 80's cheif. I love synthesizers listen it has the ability to tell it's own story with emotion. Remember the great 80's. This is all I ask honor the work of Jack Wall.

Just be aware that this might be someone else that registered using his name. If so, they (Jack and Clint) could still be colaberating to create ME3's soundtrack.

Considering the sign-up date, I doubt it. Has to be Jack himself.

Hopefully Hullick will stay then. I feel bad for the Wall of Sound guys, their work was great. Let's see what Mansell has to offer.

We've seen no official word from BioWare yet, so I'm still not 100% sure about that.

bit worried about this, i loved the music for mass effect 1 and 2. I wonder why they would drop him for the final game?

WTH? No Jack Wall? Why?

Oh well, I just hope it will be as good as in ME1 and 2. Otherwise, I will be very disappointed.

Moon's soundtrack was incredible. I'm sure Mansell will do a great job.

Count me in the "Interesting news, but I hope the themes and motifs from the first two games carry over" camp. It's good that the new composer is professional and famous, but I don't want to see Jack Wall's contributions forgotten and annihilated.

Was anyone a fan of Mansell's band Pop Will Eat Itself back in the 80s and 90s? I certainly was, so I've put together Spotify and youtube playlists of old Poppie's songs that Clint could use for the game's soundtrack: http://raidingparty.net/?p=1124
