These tracks better appear in Mass Effect 3, otherwise it wouldn't be consistent... and no lame remixes either.

Clint Mansell may be good, but Jack Wall has perfectly defined the sound of Mass Effect. For Clint, it will be like reinventing the wheel. There is perhaps no other game imo that has better music.

And why has Bioware lost two composers now?

I know people are saying Bioware shouldn't veer from the ME sound too much, but that kinda electronic synth is heard a lot less in ME2. Also it's the "epic conclusion" so I think that calls for some epic orchestration; something Mansell is infinitely good at.

After hearing Clint Mansell's works, the composer has some rather very big shoes to fill. His music style is not even remotely orchestral rather than a string quartet ensemble and piano. This is going to be a tough challenge for Clint as it seems that this is his first Video Game Project.

Most of Clint Mansell's music works great for films, commercials and trailers. Some of his existing tracks may work for subtle conversational scenes, however the greatest concern whether his abilities in composing A LOT of fast paced action scores. Otherwise the game-play would be extremely dry and dragging slow-paced.

If Bio-ware is looking for a replacement composer, note that Mass Effect is a military "Fast Paced Action Video Game". They should consider composers who have done many fast paced action films such as Trevor Jones (Dark City), Graeme Revell (Red Planet, Chronicles of Riddick), Kevin Riepl (UT2004, Gears of War), David Arkenstone, or even perhaps bring veteran game composer Jeremy Soule into the project. These composers are also experienced Digital Orchestrators who can bring their sampled MIDI mockups sound like real players.

The Mass Effect soundtrack in all is still dominantly orchestral, however the orchestral samples utilized in Jack Wall's tracks lacks an aggressive "punch" and the string ostinatos/staccatos very weak. The orchestration sounds quite incomplete, lacking a lot of instruments, and the MIDI programming not realistic enough.

For the next ME3 soundtrack, it is recommended that the production should be able to hire musicians or perhaps hire an class A Digital Orchestrator/MIDI programmer if there are budget constraints. By examining his previous works, Clint Mansell excels in Electronic/Keyboard composition, but he definitely needs an orchestrator assistant or perhaps add more instruments in his palette. Double the synth arpeggios with the woodwinds and add an aggressive brass section to give it a strong kick.

In most video game soundtracks, the music have to be "in your face" suspense to engage the players during missions or propel players to go into a rampage in addition to the atmospheric ambient tracks and additional cinematic thematic tracks.

Jerry Goldsmith "Total Recall" or Trevor Jone's "Dark City" are good examples of well crafted, well performed, and well composed Synth/Orchestral soundtracks.

Hmm, I've just read that Jack Wall leaves the Mass Effect franchise behind, and I was sad.
Then I found this topic.
Ah, I bought the movie Smokin' Aces for the last three or four minutes where one of Mansell's masterpieces can be heard. (Dead Reckoning)
Although he is not the orchestral type, I'm sure he'll deliver some nasty good pieces. Climaxes will be mind-blowing, I feel.
It'll be interesting to see if it can work along with the ME atmosphere. Well, Moon was an absolute science-fiction title, so he's got the genre in him, I have trust in his talent and that he'll show what he's capable of with a semi synthetic - orchestral setting.

Jack Wall left on his own. He wants to have an actual career beyond "that Mass Effect composer guy." Deal with it.

I was disappointed to hear this -- I really liked Jack Wall's work on ME and ME2.  The score for 'The Fountain' was so incredible though that I'm okay with this choice.  He's an academy award nominated composer after all...his work is truly amazing.

Still though, we need to hear several of the 'themes' already established in the first two games:

Main Theme/Shepard's Theme: www.youtube.com/watch

Reaper Theme: www.youtube.com/watch

Illusive Man's Theme: www.youtube.com/watch

There are probably a few others, but those are really the main ones that I think need to be heard (assuming Illusive Man is apart of ME3, which I think he will be).

Being a music person, it would be so disappointing to see all of the pre-established themes that have been really...quintessential to the series be thrown out.  Jack Wall has done an amazing job up to this point.  It's a shame he didn't want to finish it out.

Many parts of Moon's soundtrack subtly reminded me of the feeling i got from playing and listening to the first game. Hard to explain. I will admit I listened to "Welcome to Lunar Industries" over and over while doing the moon side mission in the first game. Kinda lame yeah but it was actually pretty neat.

Anyway, I think that film proves that he can most definately take on sci fi. I'm just curious if we'll hear anything similar to Moon throughout the game.

Mass Effect - Main Theme
www.youtube.com/watch?v=yVm_ljDSdwA

When start the game sounds this tune, I always listen to it until the end.
I hope to hear it when I'll begin Mass Effect 3.
I hope it's a good tradition.

Mass Effect - From the Wreckage
www.youtube.com/watch?v=n_4Rl8YfcWo

This is one of the best tune I've ever heard.

Mass Effect - The End (reprise)

When in the final Mass Effect 1 I heard this  tune I was shocked, it was so great.

Mass Effect - Uncharted Worlds

When I hear this song I feel the spirit of adventure.
My journey began.

Mass Effect - Sovereign's Theme
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MEc1OTFaWnI

The darkness comes.
I hope this is the melody will be mark the arrival of the Reapers in Mass Effect 3.

Mass Effect - Vigil
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w097Q0fZE-A

Calmness, serenity and ancient knowledge.

Mass Effect - M4 part 2 (faunts)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vwfJvemUIZg

Always, when plays a good song, I do not turn off the captions.
This song became one of my favorite thanks to mass effect.
I was saddened because I haven't heard something like that in Mass Effect 2.
I hope that in the Mass Effect 3 will be the same impressive credits song like in mass effect 1.

Mass Effect 2  - The Illusive Man
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UBLOvSb56Vc

Unfortunately music Mass Effect 2 seemed not expressive.
There was a lot of unique themes for each character, but none of them I do not remember.
Perhaps this is one of the outstanding, in my opinion, the melody.

I don't believe the official story. I think Jack Wall and the others got ditched for a bigger name. And no, I won't deal with it - deal with it...

Im a bit more at ease hearing that he will be more of a "DJ" than a "composer".
So atleast the main melody of the franchise ain't gone.
I don't think we are looking at Lords of Shadow here, at least I hope not.
