If Mansell can keep to the original themes somewhat... Holy crap, knock the Wall down for all I care.

As long as they keep this in like at the ending of ME2 I won't be mad.

And Mansell is good

No Jack Wall makes me sad :( but from what it sounds like, Mr. Wall had spent a long time scoring Mass Effect and wanted to do something new.

Hopefully Mansell tries to incorporate the previous themes and styles a little bit at least....

I sure hope Wall and Hulick's Mass Effect themes will still be used... if only to insure ME3 will still feel part of the first 2 episodes. Some themes like "New Worlds", the "Normandy theme" and the ME1 opening title are pretty much signature ME universe, IMO.

As I've said, I do like Mansell, but I expect his music for Mass Effect 3 to sound like Clint Mansell music.

I just wanna point out how funny that sentence sounds to me... I know what you mean, and agree, but... of course it'll sound like Mansell music, because it will be Mansell music.

But seriously now, I think his style will lend well to video games--whether or not people think it'll work for Mass Effect 3 specifically. His music is very rhythmic, repeats simple but catchy themes that could easily be looped, and he depends more on textural context than melodic development. This is similar to what most video game composers do. I think he could have a lot of fun in the this industry, and if he effectively brings his rich harmonies to ME3, then I'll be happy.

Jack Wall was phenomenal. ME2's music was super dramatic and fitting. Hopefully Mansell can do the same

To each his own I guess. I just don't expect him to expand as far as I'd like outside of his comfort zone. I will keep an open mind, of course. Mansell could very well surprise me.

Personally, I never really cared for the Jack Wall stuff, mostly because I'm not a major synth fan. I really don't recall any ME1 or ME2 music aside from the ME1 death music and the galaxy map music (only after thinking about ME music for a bit), so as far as I am concerned, this is a massive improvement.

jack wall and sam hulick. That what I've seen all the credits go to for that song...

They did the score for the rest of the game, but not M4.  That was done by the indie band Faunts.

How did I forget about this song?  Amazingly good and one of the better credits songs I've heard.  Let's all be honest though, the title goes to "I'm still alive."

I'm not sure about the type of music Mansell plays, but if its anything like the original ME's then I'll be more than pleased. ME2's more modern soundtracks, while not necessarily bad, did not fit the theme of Mass Effect in my opinion.

That's the guy that wrote that score that everyone uses in their you tube fan videos. I'm not really happy with him being the man scoring the game.

I want a game composer scoring this game. Jack Wall would have created a consistent soundtrack for the trilogy, what is Bioware thinking?! They do realise the music is a good 40%-60% of the game's atmosphere?

Secondly, how do they know Clint Mansell is going to produce something as spectacular for games as he does movies? I hope the big name doesn't sway Bioware into just jumping the gun on this.

Thirdly, pretty poor form to supersede Jack Wall with this guy. JW had some serious skill. I was never compelled to buy a soundtrack by Clint Mansell, but I bought ME1 and ME2 soundtracks.

Really, pretty shocked at this Bioware. Not happy at all, unless Jack Wall is involved.

Interesting turn of events, if Jack Wall wanted to pursue other interests then all the luck to him. Hopefully Clint get's the music right.

Clint Mansell is one of the best film composers imho - I love Jack Wall, but this guy is something else... I'm sure Clint can keep the same feel, but honestly... I think he'll do a better job - nice one EA/Bioware.

His score for the Fountain is one of the best ever made in my opinion (he worked with Mogwai and Kronos Quartet for that, and it's goddamn beautiful). And if you look back at EVERTHING he's done, he's dabbled in a lot of different types of music - seriously, he can do this justice)

He is a great composer but can he actually compose something that fits Mass Effect, or will the sound track be even more similar to generic orchestral movie score than the last one?

Seriously. Everybody is spamming the Requiem for a Dream theme everywhere. I'm so frigging tired of it; if he makes anything even remotely resembling it, I'm gonna rage.

I'm going to have to agree here as well. This is why I end up preferring video game soundtracks over any movie soundtracks.

His work is anything BUT generic, watch all of Darren Aronofsky's films if you're really concerned.  His films are all good anyway ;)

Oh and check out Moon.

Vigil is good but not brilliant.

This. I prefered the suicide mission theme and thought this fit Mass Effect's "Military Sci-Fi" genre well.

As much as I like Mansell, I'd rather have Jesper Kyd or the RZA.

I...dunno what to say, honestly. I mean, he's incredibly talented, but yeah...Jack and team weren't "broken" (provided they returned to the ME1 style).

Well, I hope WoS still is involved in some way (hopefully they'll all collaborate, with Mr.Mansell as lead).

Anyway, as long as you don't mess with the epic main melody from the series, everything should be fine. DON'T MESS WITH EPIC MELODY!!!!

Mass Effect 3 is shaping up to be amazing just because of this news. I have no doubt he wanted to work on a game as big as this to try something new on. Good as Wall was, he doesn't have anything on Mansell.
