But on a serious note I'm very worried about this, Mass Effect 1's music was simply perfect it really captured the world of ME and was one of the best if not the best thing in the original. ME 2's music felt like a step down in comparison despite still being great & this is another reason that makes me think this isn't a good way to end the trilogy. We've already had Drew leave who nearly single-handedly created the story and world and this makes me worried.

RZA was awesome in Kill Bill Vol 1 but his production style is more Dragon Age than Mass Effect... his lyrics would fit Mass Effect but Mass Effect isn't about lyrics and now I'm babbling. I'm going to bed.scyphozoa wrote...
As much as I like Mansell, I'd rather have Jesper Kyd or the RZA.

I know it is a matter of preference, but I do like the ME2 music more. On the other hand, some synth still in the soundtrack would be very welcome.

Why is a person with experience in the series leaving it before the trilogy concludes? Leaving a work unfinished? Why?
If Mansell changes it to become more Requiem-like and haunting, I will be furious.
ME's story and gameplay is what kept me entertained, but the music kept me at the edge of my seat. I'm sorry to see Jack Wall go.

if so then he may be using old music and adding his own, recreating some of them, doing his own renditions of them or it may be just for the trailer.
The WHOLE paragraph I wrote in that post was about the trailer, as in what we've heared already in the trailer. I also did mention that it was obvious, again I was talking about the trailer.
Oh and am not your son, if anything, am you daddy . . . . . . . just kidding, but am not your son.

This is awesome news I love Mansell's work on The Fountain and Smokin' Aces. But I don't think I've ever heard any sci-fi like pieces before from him... I wonder how he'll adjust.
Well Fountain kind of was sci-fi... sci-fi, love, space-opera epic almost. But he's worked with Trent Reznor, he did some synthy stuff for Pi, and he did the score for Moon - he's pretty ranged.

Anyway... still very excited by this news. The Fountain and Requiem's OSTs are two of my absolute favorites, just hauntingly beautiful, and I've been checking out his other work, and it's all very awesome. I assume he did the ME3 trailer music too, which sounded very cool.

Drew didn't "nearly single handly creat the story and world". Mac, as well as three other people were part of the process of writing the sotryline and the world. They did the same amount of writing and came were all part of the creative process. All of them came up with story for all three games before the first was even made. I am sick of people giving Drew all the credit for the story of Mass Effect or blaming only Mac for their dissatisfaction of Mass Effect 2.Harmless Crunch wrote...

Well, this is a little reassuring... I'm not too familiar with all of his work so I didn't know he had that in him. This shows he can at least bring some aggressiveness to the soundtrack, which I didn't hear too much of in his other work.

Anyways, who says that Jack Wall is going anywhere? Clint said he would be composing for ME3, but that does not mean that Jack will not be composing as well. People are making assumptions without any proof.
I heard Jack Wall was eager to "move on"... But I don't know the source.

From Black Swan (his most recent film score)
From Pi (his first film score)
From Faster
And I know it's The Fountain, but if we get something like this for the love theme, I will be seriously happy face.

Bioware really pulling all stops for the blockbuster movie styled game again huh? Guess the pressure from EA's really piling up, or they've gone over to the dark side of gaming... Shame. I was really looking forward Jack Wall returning to the ME1 music themes. A real shame. BTW, Lux Aeterna is overrated. If they wanted a real movie composer, they should have gone with Hans Zimmer, John Powell, or Steve Jablonsky.

Agree with Lux Aeterna being over-rated, but I disagree regarding ME1's music. A good chunk of them just felt bland and did not feel inspiring. Out of the 40+ tracks in-game, I only ended up liking 1/5th of the songs.
To name a few songs that I liked:
- Love theme
- Feros Battle music
- Virmire
- Escape from Virmire
- Escape from Citadel
- Choosing between Ash and Kaidan
- From the Wreckage
- Ilos Battle
- Therum Battle
- Victory
- From The Wreckage
- The End (Reprise)
I **** you not, I only liked 12 out of 40+ songs.

Listening to The Fountain soundtrack on my Zune I guess your right. He does have that dreary and mysterious vibe going. If his style is anything to go by ME3 may be considerably darker than the first two, a good thing for me. Heart ache is my guitly pleasure, a sucker for the dramatic, and a lover of all things bittersweet.AwesomeName wrote...

I think that because Lux is incredibly overused it has become kind of a cliche, which is a sad thing, but I still appreaciate it for what it is. There's absolutely nothing wrong with Clint Mansell
As for film composers there's Ennio Morricone, John Williams (not the guitarist though his score Cavatina for The Deer Hunter is amazing, not to mention that I hold him in very high regard) James Horner, Miklos Rozsa, Clint Mansell, Bill conti, Jerry Goldsmith, Hans Zimmer, Harry Gregson Williams, Nina rota, Jerry Goldsmith and the list goes on and on, they are all great. Now of coarse I like some more than others, but if I am to make a list (which I never do) Clint Mansell would be very high up. He is an amazing composer, he has his style and so does every other musican, this is the very essence of music in the first place, the soul of the composer.

...with
something like Mass Effect you're more like a DJ, with all these
elements. You've got the holding pattern, then the big explosion where
you need the score to kick in. Then you need to take it off on a
tangent. You've got all these different elements that change depending
on what the player does...
I wonder if that means they'll be doing one of those "dynamic" soundtracks like they did with Red Dead Redemption.
A few of my favorite Mansell tracks in The Wrestler and Smokin Aces.
I sent a message to WallofSound via twitter, maybe we'll have some luck and they'll respond...

He wasn't describing the type of game score ME3 will have, he was merely describing the difference between working on a film and a RPG game. That's all that comment meant
And here's the link for that interview, for others to read.
