Hope the new guy does his thing, so far Lux Aeterna is pretty epic, but not Halo epic, just epic.

I consider theme song played in first Mass Effect to be the best out of two. It just had it, the catch, the mystery... I loved how they reused that same theme at the end of ME3 teaser.

He's never gonna live Lux Aeterna down is he? He has done more than just that you know

For anyone concerned about his ability to weave an existing theme into his work, I suggest listening to his work on Black Swan. He keeps the original themes of the ballet, while smoothly adding his own work. The ME3 soundtrack should be very interesting.

SO GOOD.
Jack Wall is awesome, but I cannot say no to the guy who composed this masterpiece.
nice

I didn't like every song in ME1 either.I like everything on your list there except choosing ash/kaiden. And I would have added Vigil. I just want that same music theme from ME1 but with improvement, over the orchestral ME2 music. ME1's music fit the mood/theme of the game perfectly. ME2 seems like just another space game with another soundtrack. I liked some of ME2's music, don't get me wrong, but some parts were too blockbuster film like.

Mileage may vary. I just didn't feel the same way about Vigil like the other guys on the board. I am definitely *NOT* saying they're wrong for liking it. Different strokes for different folks. I just felt a better connection to ME2's soundtrack overall on the emotional level. I just wished ME1's main theme had the Suicide Mission song just to get the feeling of "Military Science Fiction."

If you have to ask then it's already too late. It would be like changing all of the BGMs for Star Wars with rock music. It doesn't stick and ruins the feeling.
Don't take the whole space opera thing too literal.

If it's because you'd prefer Bioware to stick with the general style the ME series already established (preferably ME1's style) than yes I agree.Pwener2313 wrote...

But if it's simply because you dislike classical music than I disagree.

Well done Bioware. Wall was great, but Mansell is on the upper echelon of composers in ALL mediums.
Side note: Mass Effect 3 is going to be depressing, most likely to the point of tears. This hire proves it.

Sets the tone for the Illusive Man in the best way possible. Mysterious, ominous, but also a light tone. It is the musical equivalent of the Illusive Man.
The music is basically identical to the emotions you are experiencing as you see the new Normandy. Especially the end where you come to the realization that there is more work to do and more danger to face. Pretty sure the last 5 seconds or so made everyone extremely pumped up.

This really tells a narrative of its own and probably makes the last chapter of the game what it is. I mean really, when it comes down to it, the last chapter of ME2 is considered one of the best in gaming history, and it's all because of the soundtrack.

Having said this, Clint is known for writing music for clever, sophisticated movies lately - Fountain, The Moon; I wonder whether that means ME3 is going to be more emotional and sophisticated too.

I have heard this song too much to actually appreciate it. First I thought it was okay, now I just roll my eyes when I hear it... again.adam_grif wrote...
SO GOOD.
On topic: I sense a deja vu coming. I don't see the point in them switching composers at the last part of the trilogy. Wall was doing a good job. I hope that he'll be at least involved in the process. But since we don't know much for now, making a fuss about it seems premature.

You can say all you want about this new guy, but the fact remains that ME2 had literally perfect scoring. Examples of this:
I wouldn't say it was perfect across the board. I love Jack Wall - especially Saren's theme on Virmire, TIM's theme, Suicide Mission, Samara's theme, etc... But sometimes it was a tad cheesy, like DR Orpheus from Venture Bros cheesey:
Again, I love a lot of Jack Wall's work, but other times it was just cringeworthy!

Edit: Hurr, I skipped to far and didn't notice how far the skip was. Disregard that.
