As IGN put it, if nothing else, it gives us good reason to believe ME3 won't be just another action movie with guns and explosions.Big stupid jellyfish wrote...

Having said this, Clint is known for writing music for clever, sophisticated movies lately - Fountain, The Moon; I wonder whether that means ME3 is going to be more emotional and sophisticated too.

I'm sure if you're into this sorta thing, you already know about it, but Jack Wall didn't do any of the music on the DLC for ME2, either. It's possible that he's been detached from this project for a long time and no one took notice?

Clint Mansell certainly is good in what he does. However, ME and ME2 have established a signature soundscape for the series, so I hope the third instalment won't deviate too much from that.
I wouldn't worry. Look at what he does with Tchaikovsky's work in Black Swan. He won't so much as deviate as he will add to the pre-existing themes. And I have faith he'll do a really good job of it. At worst, he'll come up with something that fits and is really good; at best he'll come up with something that fits and is emotionally awe-inspiring.

Well put. I'll be happy either way.

As for my personal favorite by Clint Mansell,
This so rocks. Can't wait to hear the score.

Yes, and that's definitely a 'DO WANT'! (Not that ME2 was all about guns and explosions anyway.
I can't help but wonder how the mainstream and 'Hollywood-like' approarch ME2 took is going to сombine with Manshell's style.
P.S. I also wonder what Terror_K has to say about the news as he's very into ME1 style. As of now, it looks like ME3's mood and atmosphere are going to be something different from both ME1 and ME2. (We don't know much yet, though, so it's mostly speculation.)

Mass Effect 2's score was a bit different than the first, but not that much. I fear that Mass Effect 3 will turn into yet another full-orchestra (don't get me wrong, I'm generally a soundtrack nut and I love orchestras) run of the mill soundtrack...

Hope he does really well with ME3.
I love this track:

Sounds good to me (haha). I loved The Fountain and Requiem for a Dream (heck, even the Doom movie soundtrack was decent).

I love this track:
Aftermath is really ME-ish, too. Crazy from a movie that's just people getting owned.

Friendly suggestion to the people freaking out over this news and assuming it means that ME3's soundtrack is just going to consist of the Requiem for a Dream score playing over and over: make sure you know what you're talking about before you rage.
Seriously, this is still the best videogame related news I've heard in a long time.

This is off the Faster soundtrack, and it's crazy how it sounds like it would fit in ME.

Please tell me that he's actually simply joining Jack Wall and co. and not just doing it himself. To change the composer for the final third of the trilogy just seems silly to me. If this really is the case and Jack Wall is out, it's not exactly doing much to allay my fears that ME3 is going to be even more "Modern Hollywood" and even less "1980's-era=esque sci-fi" in style.
Um. This comment strikes me as counterintuitive, considering the first two ME scores were much more "modern Hollywood" in terms of their generic qualities than anything I've ever heard from Mansell.
Edit: ... excepting the galaxy map music, I guess.
Seriously, I think a lot of you guys don't realize how versatile Mansell can be. He does have a distinctive style, true, but not only do I think he'll be a good match for ME3, I think this is exactly the sort of thing that the videogame medium needs to elevate itself as an art form. (I'm not saying there's no artistry in videogame music, either, but the majority is still incredibly generic, and Mansell is one of those rare composers whose work really stands out among film music.)

SO GOOD.
Haters gonna hate. I knew this only as "that movie trailer song" for about 5 years before someone told me that the song was called "Requiem for a Dream" (it's not), but then when I went looking for it I found out it was actually called Lux Aeterna.
I agree that it's overused, but it was used so often because it's so good. I understand you disagree, but it's pretty obvious that most people think it's awesome. It's the definitive "epic" track, and in the film Requiem for a Dream it was used to great effect (Ironically not even close to an action movie, or even remotely grand in its scope, despite how the music was used in trailers and people's videos on youtube afterwards, lol).

I think Jack Wall wanted to move on anyway. Besides, Clint Mansell has a very impressive body of work - have you seen the Fountain? There's also Pi, Black Swan, Moon, Requiem for a Dream, amongst others. Don't get me wrong, I love Jack Wall, but I actually think this guy is leagues better... I don't think they couldn't have found a better person for this, imo.
I should be asleep, but couldn't resist

I'd rather have Muse and Dream Theater tag-teaming with the ghost of Freddie Mercury for the soundtrack, but we can't always get what we want.
