Well now that we know Aveline out as a LI we can assume that the straight LI are Isabela and Merril.  Both recycled characters from DAO.  Why would you do this?  Now I know I will get the flood of posts about how I don't know the characters and we have to play the game to get a real sense of who they really are.   But the whole point is we DO know who they are.  Isabela was a pirate that would teach you how to fight with two swords and sleep with anything.  If she suddenly has more morals about sex well then she is not the same character. And Merril is a stuffy Dalish Elf that is by the book of how her people do things.  Is she is not then they have changed her allot. NeaNeither ther of which are very apealing...  Bah this is just lame.
Ok this turned into more rant then I wanted but there you have it...

Really? you know all about them, Really? I don't think you can really judge characters you know so little about, and i'm pretty sure people change. Unless you know more than I do about the two, which I doubt, you have no proper argument

If Aveline was truly such a good and honorable lady as some of you claim she is, then there's no way she'd dishonor her husband she loved and move on so soon after his death.



10 years later and with a lot of work, she sort of moves on - they said so. But romance with her was out from the getgo, just based on what kind of person she is written as.



But clearly there is a lack of respect for her actual character and just more 'why won't she romance meeee/i want a lawfully good romance!!!' without actually thinking about it.

I just want Aveline to be a good friend. But I'm a girl and I think that about all the female characters in DA2. Except for Cassandra, I want to kill her for throwing a book at my Varric.

Because, IMO, 10 years is long enough to mourn and move on.  Less, even.

What many other posters have said is true; no one *knows* most of these characters (except perhaps Anders...and even he's changed), and you can't judge them until you actually get to know them. I thought Alistair would be rather corny and I ended up loving his romance arc, while in Mass Effect 2 one of my most hyped characters, Jack, came up as sub-par for me in the game.



As far as Aveline not being an LI, it totally makes sense. She's older and after her husband's death, she commits herself to other things in life. I have a good feeling she will STILL be an awesome character either way (some of the best characters happen to not be LIs). Not every character has to be a potential romance option. Those who see it otherwise need only to look at Garrus/Tali's so-called 'romance' in Mass Effect 2 (clearly thrown in and it comes off as unrealistic and cheesy).



And the options are not totally bad in DA2 (well...potential options since we don't know aside from Isabela, and we only know her as a heterosexual option). Fenris is fairly attractive, Isabela has a lot of personality and has an improved look over her initial scans, Merrill is basically many rpg fans wish in a Bioware game (at least initially),Anders has tons of fans, Sebastian could potentially have an arc of his own, and Varric...well Varric does have his admirers to be fair.



(Plus...they did say there would be NPCs that were also romanceable. Keep an eye out for that too).

It was a huge mistake for Bioware to not make Aveline romanceable. Theres already a huge backlash from the news. I wonder if they're going to cave like they did with ME2 with Garus and Tali and just make her romanceable somehow in the next game.

Which is a good thing considering my Hawke will be the ugliest person who ever set foot in Ferelden and Kirkwall.

By the way I'm glad that Aveline is not romancable, it seems there's more to her story. And it's good that not every companion relationship is about getting to bed them as it was in ME2. (For those who didn't play it, most of the companions simply stopped talking to you if you turned them down. It was kind of dull, we only had the romance or not talk at all options from a point, and I'm glad DA2 is taking another approach, and not every character is about romance.)

No, there is not. A lot of people are disappointed but nobody is that upset, just a couple of whiners.

Maybe it will be like the pseudo-romance with Samara, where you kinda get somewhere, and she shows interest, but nothing really happens. I think that would be more meaningful and more with Aveline's character than if we got a full romance.

Those who are only seeing the sexually liberal side of Izzy are missing one thing: she used to be married. Unless it was done simply for convenience, she is capable of deeper feelings.
There's something very appealing to that idea: she isn't willing to change, she wants to have fun, she wants to enjoy herself, she wants to sample everything life has to offer, but you're the one she'll still come home to in the end.

Independence is hot, but maybe it's just me?

I think the real question is; who let her out of the kitchen?

OP how many people have you met in real life that turned out to be the same people after 10 years that they were in the first 5 minutes you met them?
I wouldn't even be able to place Merril's personality judging by DAO.

Hahaha, perhaps Aveline will have a Morinth-like evil twin sister claiming you are too strong willed to die and having sex with her will result in......."Critical Mission Failure" with probably Cassandra, shock eyed saying to Varric: "That's it?! That's what happened to the Champion?!" Just Kidding.
