Swords were that gigantic in Origins as well. Most were so gigantic that they clipped into the back of my character's calves.

Nobody's going to bother to check, but 100% true.

They really are no bigger than the equivalent swords in DAO, go have a look at Ageless for example.

I was hoping they reigned in the size of the greatswords a bit, maybe down to the butt instead of the feet.

My dwarf's greatsword always dragged across the road.

So annoying

It's the same size as in Origins

Down to the butt? for that to make any amount of sense, even comparing to RL, Hawke would have to be 8-9 feet tall. Claymores and whatnot got around 5-6 feet long. Its a 2 hander - that ****s big yo.

That aside... they did seem to make the handles way to damn long, but that has a lot to do with the animation styles. See instead of having you hold the dull-part of the lower blade they just doubled the handle length so they can use the exact same 'combat idle and swing' animations for G-swords and 2H-axes alike.

erm though the Great Sword from the intro is pretty 'wide'. Really wide. Some swords in DAO though (most) where pretty skinny overall which was kinda nice. Seriously though, giant handles O.o

Just checked. Overall size, yes, the greatswords in Origins are roughly the same as the one that lady hawke is wielding in the video. But the pommels were much shorter in Origins.

It's not big enough! I demand a Cloud's style sword that my FemHawke shall sling over her shoulder and do those yeah-Im-Champion-but-I-don't-care-right-now poses.

Perhaps, but the reason they were so big in Origins was so we could tell them apart even when using the high-angle tacitcal camera.  That's the exact justification the devs offered when we complained about their size then.

So now, we don't have the high-angle camera, so there is then no more need for them to be so big.  So why are they still so big?

Because huge two-handed weapons are awesome, obviously.

Maybe because it's just a game and no medieval combat simulator? Just a guess. And you need no justifications - their game, their rules.
