that the thing people complain about most is a little over exaggeration of a swords length

Swords were that gigantic in Origins as well. Most were so gigantic that they clipped into the back of my character's calves.
Yep. That's one thing that remained as it was.
You know, if the swords were bigger in DA2, they couldn't have fit them on the screen.

You're forgetting that the majority of the world believes in a book that has talking animals, wizards, witches, demons, sticks turning into snakes, food falling from the sky, people walking on water, and all sorts of magical, absurd and primitive storieso_CLeVeR_o wrote...

No. Because it isn't awesome and it doesnt' look badass.
It's non-awesome and ultra-stupid.

That's because swrods and humans exist in the real world, so there is a paralel and level of believability.
I know how big swrods are, how much they weigh and how they handle..and how strong a human is.
For dragons and spirits and magic? No.
And they are integral to the setting. I HAVE to accept them and have no RL counterpart to compare them against.

Stupid is stupid. Oversized and impractical weapons always are and always will be stupid. This is factual.
Weather you consider that stupidity awesome is another matter.

In the world of Dragon Age they aren't inpractical. Just like it is not impractible to summon a demon or to kill a dragon.Lotion Soronnar wrote...

so my preference is now stupid, good job clarifying that.
just as you, i also know how a sword feels, mainly a zweihander. practiced a bit in italy when i went there.
the difference is, i like being able to do things and having things that would not be able to exist in the real world, i don't know...you could call it a fantasy of mine, which i can experience in a fantasy game.
and even though you don't like them or you think of them as stupid, they'll be in the vanilla game for me to enjoy.

Exaggeration is not the answer to everything. Swords appear to be the same size--or slightly larger than DAO two-handed swords.
That said.
You see this guy?
It's a bit taller than he is. I don't know his height. But there are other images a few pages back whether the swords are of comparable size.
The sword is taller than he is. Now compare this:

It's taller than she is by a tiny margin. Bearing in mind that she is both shorter than the male models and bending her knees.

Just look at some anime shows; Inuyasha ( Tetsaiga ), Bleach ( Ichigo's zanpaktou ). In fact, i remember that I've read somewhere that japanese they tend to do it on purpose to popularise it with the guys/boys. If you believe that sort of thing.

Scale has 3 dimensions. Length is only one of them. Not to mention that is is held at an agle, so cutting it out won't cut it for comparison (to pardon the pun).
Also proportions of specific parts of the sword.

"It's magic" is a ******-poor explanation that should be used as little as possible. (assuming that's why you're saying).
The more time you have to use it, the less sensible the setting becomes.
Oversized or oddly shaped weapons are impractical by their very nature. It's like 1+1 = 2. There's no going around it (save for MAYBE magic..but only some weapons in DA are magical).
A designer can make a gun with the barrel on the other end and tell me it's a sensible and usefull weapon in his world. But he really shouldn't expect me to take his world or him seriously anymore after that.

You are free to like oversized weapons, that does not make you stupid.
But oversized weapons are stupid. And don't belong in a dark, gritty and realistic setting...
A over-the-top JRPG or cartoony fantasy is where these things belong.

I know. But I am comparing real life greatswords and DAII greatswords by pictures.

I tilted it. It is facing upright. I didn't just cut it out and move it to the side. As far as the angle it's being held moving in, instead of to the side, it's only a bit.
Honestly, that's pretty hard evidence. You attempted to disprove a theory that BioWare is using ridiculously over-the-top swords, and I used your evidence against you. The swords often seem over the top because:
A) Most people have never seen a greatsword and assume that they weigh a ton (which isn't true at all).
TO FURTHER MY POINT:

I think Lotion's point is more regarding width and thickness of the blade, which do get affected by angle and which rotating the cutout doesn't address. Width and thickness have serious impact on overall weight of the weapon.Saibh wrote...

The length is roughly OK (still seems a tad too long), but the thickness/width is far too much..Especially on the handle. And this seem true for most weapons I've seen in DA2...especially staffs.
