So why was the Signature Edition pre orders discontinued 2 months before release again?

They gave a really big window to get the signature edition.

Oh I know, but there were still bills to pay during that time. (Education, Health insurance, phone, etc)

Most stores let you put down $5-$10 to pre-order a collector's edition. My husband and I are as poor as church mice, but we put our $5 down and have been paying about $10 a week since then.

I'm not trying to tell you you are wrong, or what to do with your money - just letting you know in case you didn't realize that you don't need to pay all at once! :)

I personally thought I had purchased the SE via Steam awhile back. Guess I was wrong. I accept responsibility for that -- not scrutinizing the sales tactics of the new Bioware with EA and Steam is clearly my fault.

But, I think the last laugh will be had (unfortunately for the community) by the people who are feeling betrayed and will use pirated versions when they wouldn't before. It was a clumsy implementation by BW and EA. Not helped by CP's ego and treatment of the complaints on this forum.

I'm a hardcore fan of Bioware and I didn't get the Signature edition, not because of the money,DLC involment(robbery I say!)etc.,  but because I wasn't interested in the game so much as I am now.Do I **** about it? No I don't.... So please stop trolling.

So the free stuff was only available before any reviewers had gotten their hands on the game, before any clear info about the story, characters, changes and upgrades about the game came to light, and I was just supposed to take a gamble that I would want to play DA2?

I always preorder games I want to play for the extras, and usually always go for the collecters editions as well if they offer goodies (hell, I did for Origins), but this is just stupid. Why would Bioware not release the Sig edition to people who want to buy it? Exclusivity? That only makes the 'loyal' fanbase feel special. Not wanting to give away free DLC? Ohh Bioware...

I've been a loyal fan of Bioware since Baldars and I feel cheated. I would have bought the Sig edition full price on release day after having seen the scraps of info that are floating round the web, but now I cannot.

Thank you Bioware, for nothing.

Also, I'd just like to draw attention to the complete lack of sympathy for people in the same position as myself from the posters here. Not that I'm asking for any, but how about a "feel bad for ya bro", rather than "lol well, should have taken a gamble that Bioware wouldn't mess up a sequal to a pretty good game".

Yeah...I got so much out of NWN alone (from the community worlds), BG series, etc. that there is a fair amount of credit with me. I just hate to see things like this cloud a good name/brand, when the focus should be on a (hopefully) interesitng and exciting game in 30 days.

I'd like to know how they will get more money from DLCs from me when I have never bought any of any kind. And I have ordered the Signature Edition.

They don't need your money, they already have it. They need the money from the gamers who are waiting for more info on the game before dropping the cash. Those are the ones that take care to get the best deals, buy pre-owned, rent, or wait a few weeks for the price to drop. All this crap with the Sig edition and exclusives is for your benefit, and to make the other side take the risk and preorder at full price.
So just sit back and talk down to someone who missed the deadline and is complaining about Bioware, and remember that unless it says EA on your wageslip, you have no need to be offended, or to defend

Feel bad for ya bro. I understand that it's frustrating.

The Signature Edition was a treat for BioWare fans who know sight unseen that because it's being made by BioWare it will be a high quality game. A simple thank you to fans who trust BioWare's brand.

Pre-ordering the game today will still get you a ton of bonus content including the Black Emporium (with its mirror of transformation, the fighting Mabari, access to exclusive magic and crafting stores) plus the Lion of Orlais Shield and the Fadeshear sword. There also seem to be retail outlet exclusive items. There are also bonus items available for playing Dragon Age Legends and the belt Hindsight and the Staff of Parlathanan available.

There is a ton of bonus content being made available to folks who decided to wait to find out more about the game before they pre-ordered. The most significant piece of the Signature Edition, the bonus character, is also available to you as day one DLC.

I'm sorry that you regret choosing not to buy the Signature Edition when it was available, but as stated there is a plethora of bonus stuff still available for your enjoyment.

I'm sorry that you feel entitled to a deal meant for those who have a lot of faith in BioWare. Not everyone has that faith or that willingness to throw their cash at the company, and that's perfectly reasonable behavior. But that means this particular deal wasn't for you.

Nobody was tricked - the guidelines for the deal were simple. It was both an incentive for an early purchase and a thank you to those who had that faith. Nobody forced you to buy or to refrain from buying. It was always your decision. If you didn't want to front up the cash, you deal with it, play the vanilla game, then decide if the DLC is worth your money later.

Microeconomics at its finest here!

It's all about what you can afford and what you value.

Although to be fair EA/Bioware did set a little bit of an artificial cap for it, I still dont quite understand why they wouldnt still offer the SE for $70 on preorder, and "free upgrade" was limited to Jan 11, but I'm not in their office so who knows

First of all, thanks.
Yeah I know I'm only missing out on maybe four items, but still, it's the princible of the thing. I would like to make an informed choice on a product, and for that I am punished. And for the record, I also was unaware until recently about the Sig edition being limited availability. I thought the 11th of Jan was the last date of the free upgrade, and I am far from living under a rock. Guess you can blame that on the game being so far from release, it wasn't really on my radar.
Just seems wierd to me that the collecters edition would be withheld from customers... and it's not like it's going to be a collectable, with the DRM on the PC release it's practicaly worthless if you sell it on after playing it, you'd be better off getting the regular edition. Like I said it's not this issue in particular, it's what it could lead to if this is the beginning of a trend. At least The Witcher 2 is shipping DRM free, with some kick ass content and goodies in the regular edition.

I think this is really the main point of contention for most people. I ordered the SE, but I too thought the same thing.

No one forced anybody to preorder something here. It was all about trust, trust that Bioware will deliver a great game. And for that trust you got rewarded with the SE. I preordered it and simply would have canceled it if the game wouldn't have lived up to my expectations. It's not that you have a to buy the game if it turns out to be crap simply because you already preordered it.  If someone missed that chance it's simply their fault and not biowares.

PS: Every retailer got the SE upgrade, no market control seen here.

That's cute.  Uh, if you wanted the character and a lower price, then yeah, you were forced to pre-order way too far in advance.  Two months is ridiculous but you go on thinking you're special. :D

PS:  Steam?  I'd say that's market control right there.

3 pages and no one has actually answered the question? The reason they stopped taking pre-orders for the signature edition 2 months in advance is because they are only making as many signature editions as they have pre-orders for. Since manufacturing takes time they had to have an order in advance for how many signature editions they needed, hence the cut off.

Firstly, to answer the question:

No, no shiny box - it's a plastic case. The only difference is free DLC - there are no physical bonuses.
As for why they stopped taking pre-orders for it - it's all a Marketing ploy.

AtreiyaN7 wrote...

Why do I do these masochistic things? *sigh* No, we don't feel more "special," nor are we deluded into believing that BioWare loves us so much more than everyone else. I'll guess that anyone who pre-ordered early probably did so because:

A) They have a certain amount of faith in BioWare's ability to put out a good product.
B) They liked the extras that were advertised.

But yes, please continue on with those completely nonsensical theories - they're nominally amusing at least.

Exactly.

Maldras wrote...

I've been a BioWare fan for quite some time, loved NWN, ME, ME2, DA:O (the fact that I purchased ME and ME2 for both 360 and PC surely says something about their games after all).

However this whole SE thing has just annoyed me (and I am actually one of those people that pre-ordered it).
If I had pre-ordered a digital download edition of the game from the EA Store, I would be fine and would be getting the pre-order bonuses as advertised.

The thing is, I don't like purchasing digital download games (unless they're at bargain bin prices, during things such as the Steam sales - for example, over the Christmas/New Year period I purchased around 14 games) - I much prefer a physical copy that I can put on my shelf, after all you can never guarantee that the service you purchased the game from is going to be around tomorrow whereas if you have the physical copy things like that don't matter (and I like a physical game manual too).

Due to the fact that I live in the UK and pre-ordered from a smaller retailer - I am now missing out on the pre-order bonuses that were advertised as "included with the SE" and "with all pre-orders". That, coupled with the fact that it appears BioWare could care less about its European customers has actually resulted in me thinking why did even bother pre-ordering? Of course, I could cancel my pre-order, but then I would loose out even more as I would have to purchase the DLC already included with the SE.

If BioWare try to pull this SE/time limited pre-order upgrade period stunt in the future, due to the above I think I'll just skip pre-ordering (and the game altogether) until the includes everything for a fraction of the price Ultimate/GOTY edition is released.

As you can see, I am highly impressed with the PR. Good job BioWare/EA. <_<

Of course they could still turn this all around, provide what they promised, and regain the loyalty of a customer - however from what I have seen it seems highly unlikely this is going to happen.

Why not do it like Shale/Zaeed?  I don't care about a silly mirror or dog or overpowered weapons but I get a little annoyed when I have to shell out an extra $7 on launch day.

It's nice some customers are getting their Signature Editions canceled.  EA can't even do a pre-order properly.

Sooooo..... I raised the issue that some of the previous posters where rather uncaring to the plight of individuals who didn't want to be forced to choose between gambling on the game and not paying for DLC, or not and paying for it at launch. You reply by calling me a cry baby, and stating that you never saw it as a gamble. Well, good for you, you must be one of the faithfull.
Also, that dot you wizzed past on your way to the 'reply' button was the point, in case you where wondering.

I make the argument that I am upset that I am placed in the position, no about what I chose. In fact, I made no choice on the matter, having misunderstood the Jan 11th deadline. I am upset that Bioware are turning the collecters edition into a marketing ploy, and we as consumers have to either like it or lump it. From what I remember about economics, they are meant to supply what we demand, not supply what ever the hell they like.
