So why was the Signature Edition pre orders discontinued 2 months before release again?

If I were to venture a guess at why the Signature Edition was handled the way it was, it would be as a test of a marketing incentive to keep people from cancelling preorders.

As we've discussed, preorders can be cancelled at any time without loss. But if a person has a preorder in for a version of the game that is no longer available, they will be less inclined to cancel their preorder. Of course they still will if they see something they absolutely hate... but for those who lose some confidence but aren't sure, they will be more likely to keep their money on the table.

That's my take on it, anyway.

Well, I'd agree with you, but for the fact that now I cannot order it anywhere else, the store where I placed my pre order to get the SE has cancelled it, claiming that due to overwhelming demand, they are out of the item. Which you can still order on their website, albeit, not the SE and for $10 more.

I know BioWare meant the free upgrade to be a treat for fans of the franchise, but it's not turned out that way at all, at least for me. Quite the opposite. :(

Why feel sorry for us, Inarborat? You're the one who's being hurt by this, not me.

How can you be out of an item that doesnt exist yet and wont until shipped? EA will make as many as ordered, so id try explaining that to them. Posted Image

I'm not holding my breath, no.

It just seems like the whole thing has been a mess from the go. Pre-orders were supposed to get the SE for free. Well, that was the cue for every retailer out there to raise the price $10.

So much for free.

But, hey still got the pre-order of SE, by ordering in early December, right?

Nope. No soup for you. Even if I were inclined to re-place the order at this retailer, and get no SE, they've bumped up the price. So, I'd be paying the limited edition price for the standard edition. I'd have to jump ship for Amazon to get the standard edition for the standard price.

I hope BioWare doesn't do this again. I don't know if I have the patience for what shennannigans retailers will get up to due to their next free upgrade promotion.

I don't understand the issue with preordering. I've preordered things seriously far in advance, changed my mind, then put the money to something else (because I preorder in person at a local Gamestop). If you do it digitally, I think I understand better, but it still seems to me you can put a cancel on your credit card or call the company and get a refund/stop payment. So I'm not sure why I should feel bad for people who didn't preorder.

And all Collector's Edition releases are cynical ploys by businesses to exploit brand popularity for more cash. The only difference here is that the Signature Edition didn't cost more money, just an early, easily cancellable preorder. So it really sounds to me like anyone complaining about this either hasn't thought it through or dislikes DLC. To the first, tough cookies, and to the second, DLC is the way things are heading. In some cases, it is ridiculous, and in some cases, it's money well spent. The glorious thing is that you can choose whether or not to buy it. If you think you're losing out on content because it's day one DLC, that's silly, because it was more than likely on a different dev cycle and couldn't be added in time, like with the Blazblue DLC characters. There are a lot more things going on with day one DLC than just a cynical cash grab, although I will gladly agree that it is certainly a cash grab.

The bottom line, honestly, though, is that Bioware is a company interested in making money, and being mad at them for striving to do so, even if you feel it's underhanded, is like feeling anger with water for it's wetness. I think it's better for y'all with a problem to speak with your wallets, and not come try to shout down the choir, you know?

It was a poorly implemented concept, in conjunction with other non-SE-specific pre-order DLC, which as resulted in a bunch of people missing out on the DLC that Bioware promised. Even if you did order the SE, as it turns out.

Talking about the "limited edition price" is just confused. There's only one price. It went up.

How come you didn't order from Amazon in the first place? They always discount from the list price.

The only problem I have is that Bioware has released collector's editions from all their games, apart from this one. I kept waiting for the CE to pop up and since retail sites were not advertising the deadline, I missed out. As a collector I'm still, a month later, heartbroken about this. Every time I see a video or interview of DA2 popping out somewhere, instead of enjoying it I feel really bad for missing out on the SE (Or apparently now also labeled as CE). Personally I do not care about the costs, I could pay double just to get the SE.

The release date is so close there is nothing they can nor will do about it anymore and this only adds to my sorrow. I will be enjoying this game with the haunting feeling on incompleteness inside me. Hopefully nobody will ever do anything like this again.

BioWare were very clear from the beginning that the Signature Edition WAS the "collector's edition." The deadline was advertised for months, all over the place. You're haunting yourself, dude.

while i understand the argument, "you snooze you lose" which, i know this is america and if something cant be summed up by using a rhyme like catch phrase, then americans wont understand it... i think forcing us to pre-order a special ed. for a game BEFORE it has gone gold is asanine.

and the game just went gold today. which yeah its great news, but that was a whole month, who knows, when this was announced it was the same time frame of when DAO was announced and then we were told DAO wasnt shipping in march '09, but it was pushed back to nov '09. i dont pre order anything until its gone gold. and pre order does more for the comapnies than it does for me.

Man, your avatar's sad face fits this post perfectly.

But anyway, I feel like if you were so totally invested in being a collector that missing out has caused you to be sad when thinking about the game you probably should've kept up and pre-ordered.  I sympathize...somewhat.

You weren't forced to do anything. You were told that if you DID decide to do something, you'd get some free swag. QQ moar.

Your second paragraph is just incoherent word-vomit.
