I have to say i am really excited about dragon age 2,but a bit dissapointed it will be shorter after spending 80 plus hours in Origins i am a bit worried it will be just like awakenings...what is your opinion?

now on the other hand if it is as long as 45 hours i will be pleased..

Clocked in at 259 hours on origins, 73 hours on Awakening.

Cumulative time from multiple play-throughs

I was happy with the length of Mass Effect 2, so I imagine that I will be fine with Dragon Age 2 as well.

Yes. As much as I love games like Fallout 3 and Oblivion I don't feel DA needs that much game length, it isn't a sandbox/free roam. Also, DAO had a lot of filler, such as the fade and deep roads that I would rather do without.

40hs with nearly 100% percent of sidequests, etc sounds kind of short to me.

I just hope it has good replayability (?) if that word even exists.

Depends on the scope of the game.

Is it long enough to go from peasant to god-killing abomination? No.

No. No. No.

But don't worry, I'm sure Bioware will release lots of overpriced DLC to extend the length of the game.

Well it has 1 reason to replay. To see how Carver or Bethany affect the story.

I expect it to be 35-45 hours if you do everything. I'll be doing lots and lots of playthroughs. 60 bucks/35 hours(low estimate)x10 playthroughs(low estimate)=.17

17 cents per hour, seems like a deal to me.

Looks to be long enough. I hope they don't streamline the dungeons though. In ME2, there was a linear path, with maybe one room off to the side with 5 credits. Dungeons like Deep Roads and Werewolf den branched off. If they have these types of dungeons, it'll add a lot of time to my playthrough.

It depends really. I almost always prefer a longer game, so long as its doing something with that time and not just filler. Origins had some filler combat and such, but really, the post landsmeet stuff could have been much more fleshed out.

So it comes down to if it can strike a balance between decent pacing while not ending up like Awakening, which, for the story it was trying to tell, seemed woefully too short. Especially after you recruit your last companion, Awakening just flew forward out of no where and then just chucked that last chunk of exposition with the Architect at you out of no where.

All that said, I'd love it if DA2 hits about 50-60 hours. That would be shorter than my 1st DAO run of about 70 hours, but longer than ME2, which I felt too short at about 30 hours. So long as the story its trying to tell feels complete and not leaving gaping holes or unresolved plot threads left and right, the length is relative.

Well, it really depends on the diversity. If the consequences are heavy and colourful, then it'll do, as I can play four-five characters in different worlds. But generally it's more like two-three outcomes, with this in mind, I'd be more confortable with 60-80 hours.

How can you possibly get 80 hours out of Origins?

30 hours is plenty.

As long as it feels 40 hours long. ME2 didn´t with so much filler, while in Risen I was surprised it had been less than 40 hours. DA:O was perfect for me in that regard. Was long and felt long in a good way.

By not skipping the dialogues? Though I only get 60.

Depends really. The longest playthrough I ever got out of Origins was 45 hours long, with the rest averaging around 35 hours in length. So long as the game isn't beatable in less than 15 hours, then chances are I'll be fine with whatever length I'm given. *shrug*

As long as it's extremely replayable.

If it's linear 40 hours is a joke.

Depends on how enjoyable that time is. There's a ton of stuff in Origins that I enjoyed doing once, that turned into real ordeals on subsequent playthroughs (the mage tower, the deep roads). If the difference is, say, a 60-hour game where I love every minute, or an 90-hour game that I dread playing a third of (that's what DAO is for me...), well, I'd have to say I'd lean toward the shorter.

But 30 hours...seems too short. Although I'd be surprised if this one isn't twice that long.

I'd rather have 40 hours of entirely excellent gameplay than around 20 hours of excellent game with another 60 hours of padding...

Did more than a hundred on the first playthrough. :)

Ok, some of it was paused screen, some of it was codex reading. So, well, the actual gameplay was about 70 hours I guess.
