Do you think 30 to 40 Hours is long enough?

However long it takes to fully develop the story is fine with me, although any less than 30 hours would be a little disappointing.

Since I know I'm going to want to replay many times, I think 30-40 hours per playthrough is sufficient.

Yes. 30 hours seems like a fair enough middle ground considering that DAO was too long for a lot of people. I just hope that DA2 has replay value for the hardcore players.

this is silly, how long you take in a game like DAO is entirelly down to how you play. Probably going to be the same in DA2

Considering that's how long most of my Origins runs were (and that's without skipping dialogues, talking to all companions, and doing at least several sidequests each time), yes - it can be. I've loved games that took me only 30 hours to beat just as much as those that took me 100. Quality matters more than the total hour count to me, especially since I replay games more often than not and rarely do 100% in one run. So as long as I feel fulfilled as a player on my first 2-3 runs, I'll be happy.

Coming to think of it, if it's the average, not the very-first-time-complitonist-playthrough, 30-40 sounds about right.

I mean, for example at the first occasion I've played Mass Effect (1) for 55-60 hours, while the subsequent playthroughs took only about 35.

Well, it heavily depends on the replay value of course.

DA:O was too long? Are people's attention spans this short nowadays? I weep for humanity.

How can you possibly get 80 hours out of Origins?

30 hours is plenty.

By not skipping the dialogues? Though I only get 60.

Yeah, I don't think I've gotten under 60 hours either, not doing all the DLC.  Although maybe that's because of the way I play, tactically speaking, and generally on higher difficulty.  Might be faster if I went casual and used a lot of freeze/shattering.

(goes to test theory)

I found DA:O to be over-long myself with too much over-drawn stuff. Sometimes less is more.

ME2 was just right for me in terms of length and pacing - DA:A was nice for an expansion and I thought it better-paced than Origins but I would be disappointed if DA2 is not about 20 hours (how long my ME2 save game is).

No way in **** that's long enough. Yet if they decide to make it that way, I won't complain (at least not much).

It depends on how good they are, whether things are rushed. I found some sections of DA:O "artifically" long. (Deep Roads, anyone?)

I rather think it will be about 20 hours, similar to ME 2.

Or people just have different preferences, for what ever the reason.

I'm ambivalent about it. I would always prefer 80+ hours but if 30-40 hours means more concise and rich content, that's cool.

There was a lot in DA:O I felt could have been cut down. I'm replaying the game right now and I'm in Denerim cleaning up the back alleys of its scumbags. I can't tell you how much of a drag it is on my soul. And I would not be able to do this replay in the first place if it weren't for the Skip The Fade mod. The thought of playing without it now is... *shudder*

Yep.  I loathe both the Deep Roads and the Fade.

My "canon" playthrough of DA: Origins, the one I'll import to DA2, is 98 and a half hours long. But that includes going through all the DLC adventures, reading of Codexes and never skipping dialogue.

I spent 30 and a half hours on Awakening and it was a lot of fun, but I wish there was just one more "long" sidequest to top off the experience.

Although ME2 is much shorter than Origins, I've played ME2 more by now because it has a high replay value to me. If combat in DA2 is as much fun as Bioware claims and I can replay DA2 as much as ME2, 30-40 hours are enough.

Fade is less than 2 hours long. DR ended by the time I was getting tired of it, so there´s a point.

Have we even received an official confirmation on how long time the game is "expected to take" to complete?

No, we have not. And given the huge discrepancies between people's hours to complete I suspect such an estimate wouldn't be very useful anyway.
