Yes. As much as I love games like Fallout 3 and Oblivion I don't feel DA needs that much game length, it isn't a sandbox/free roam. Also, DAO had a lot of filler, such as the fade and deep roads that I would rather do without.

People really consider the Fade as filler? Wow... i thought that it was one of the more interesting "dungeons".

The Circle of Magi quest was one of my favourites. I liked the contrast in simplicity between running around in a circle, killing everything, and then having to use my brain a little to get out of the Fade.

Anyway, Origins took me about 50-60 hours.I would only consider about 5 hours of that to have been "filler"... mostly board quests.

30 hours would be a little too short for me. My first playthrough of ME2 took me about 45 hours, and i'd be more happy with something like that... though if drastically reducing the length of the game is required for a tighter and more cinematographic experience, i'm okay with that.

Since I only get an hour here or there to play, it usually takes me months to beat one of these games. In BG's case, a year!! So I am not nitpicking hours. If you are talking money for time spent, one of these games is literally some pocket change per hour.

if the game is really good at 30 hours thats good enough for me. but the longer the better

i.e. still cheaper than going to the movies for 2 hours

Origins had massive amounts of filler combat, so not much will be lost if the game will be shorter, but devoid of it.

Well, the new PC Gamer review put DA2 in the region of "upwards of 50 hours". Which is quite a lot more than I expected.

It's almost in DA:O's region. I hope it's not one of those "we give you an exclusive game to review you don't burn our game" kind of deal...would be a pleasant surprise.

I think the issue for people may be if, with doing the extra stuff in the game, the game still clocks in at 30 hours may be an issue. I'm not sure if anyone else had this same game play time, but if I didn't do too many side quests, I finish DOA is roughly 20 hours. It did seems short going through, but I ignored so much. I personally don't mind the story taking only that long, as long as it is a solid experience. It kinda reminds me of the time is takes to finish ME...

If the game lives up to my expactations, game length doesn't really bother me. I have completed Origins many times and I plan on doing the same with Dragon Age 2. Origins was a fantastic game, but after several playthroughs, some parts of the game are getting annoying. Game length is problably more important for people who are finishing games only once. For me, the impact of the choices - and the replay values that comes with them - will decide whether a shorter game is really worse.

30 to 40 hours per playthrough, absolutely. That's three playthroughs (for me) making a total of around 120 hours. Perfectly respectable.

30-40 hours is highly subjective, depends on how people play games and don't forget that they may add xpacs etc and make DAII a quite big game.

Personaly, I like taking my time with single player games but if people want to powerplay their first walkthrough, 30-40 may seem short.

Ceteris paribus, a longer game is better than a shorted one, but this is not one of those factors that make me want to stay away from DA2.

Which is why it's silly to trust mainstream reviewers.

I miss GameCentre.  They used to have great reviews, and they even insisted on finishing a game before reviewing it (which meant their reviews were late).  Sadly, CNet shut it down when they bought ZDNet, as ZDNet had GameSpot (which was awful, and still is, but it was more popular).

Should be enough seeing as it will certainly be worth a couple playthroughs. There's also bound to be some (hopefully quality) DLC that may add to the playtime.

From the live chat a play through will be about 50 hours. Longer than I expected and a good length.

That's about as long as ME2 was, though I doubt DA2 will make us spend 20% of our gameplay time scanning planets.

In the live session he said, "Longer than ME2, but shorter than DA:O." He gave an estimate of about 50 hours. So let's be conservative and say 45.

"Slightly shorter" than DA:O "longer" than ME2.

As mentioned, Mike said around 50 hours, which matches the PC Gamer review with their 50+ hour estimate.

Seems plenty long to me :)  Especially since I like multiple playthroughs and have a life outside of Dragon Age haha

I don't think the problem was there was too much combat, but that there wasn't enough world between the encounters.

Any of the areas where there were a bunch of enemies standing around in clusters (like the Deep Roads, or the Korcari Wilds) could have been improved, I think, by making the araas bigger and just spreading out the combat more.

Then it wouldn't have felt like filler.

50 hours is plenty. Perfect lenght if you ask me. I always felt Origins was a bit too long 'in the middle' so to speak, Mass Effect 2 also had this problem, but to a lesser extent. I always did all the side-quests as the last thing in both games before going to the critical point/path of no return, so I ended up with a long series of side-quests just before the last part of the game, which kind of killed the suspense. Might have been my fault, but while doing some of the side-quests I felt like "I just want to be over with this already so I can get to the end."

Origins took me 52 hours I believe, and ME2 took me 40 or something like that. 50 hours estimated for Dragon Age 2 sounds like it would take me around 45 hours... I'll say it again, perfect!

It took me about 40-45 hours to go through orgins, I didn't really do any of the board quest, mostly stuck with the main story line and a few side quest for the companions. If that's what they mean by 40 hours I'm good. If it's 40 hours with all the side quest like the boards? Eh.....I might finish sooner since I usually do quest if I find them, but don't really do things like board quest that are just filler. It would make it too short.

If the content is superior, and everything is more fun (I'd compare this easily with ME1 -> ME2), then sure, 36 hours or so seems rather good to me.

Yes, that amount of time is perfect for me. I completed Origins in 44ish hours, ME1 in 27 hours, and ME2 in 30ish hours.

This is solely me, but I just can't handle games as big as Oblivion. The number of quests in there just overwhelmed me.

The shorter it is, the easier it is to replay multiple times. I see that as a bonus. That diddnt stop me from putting about 200+ hours total into Origins though so...

Well, I look at it this way. I'd rather have a rich 30-40 hours, than a not so rich 80 hours. For me it's not so much about how much hours I clock in, rather than the quality of those hours. I'm already a busy man.
