it didn't occure to me before, but he sounds different in some of the answers, almost like he was voiced by 2 different poeple.  according to wiki, it was only one actor, but I keep hearing a difference in his voice, the pitch, tembre, you know.

am I hallucinating, or anyone else hearing the same thing?  its kinda weird and jarring to me O_O

Did not notice. He's on Noveria, right? Will check him out.

Any lines in particular that you noticed this on?

Ventralis that bastard, he tries to kill me if I go to the hot labs first.

its strange that he tries to kill you first, at least my first playthrough I went for hotlabs first and then came back to do the rift station quests (didn't realize that they should be done in opposite order O_O) on the other hand, I don't remember if I killed him or not the very first time I played.

Cheez, yeah he's on Noveria and its the conversation you can have with him when you just get to rift station. I cannot remember which specific lines as my mind is like a sieve (so I ended up loading up the game just to bug him again, but some of the lines are missing as I've been quicksaving and don't have a save when I just get to the station) but asking him about hot labs was one of those. he almost sounds as if Mark Meer voiced that particular answer.

edited to add - not to self, remember for cripes sakes to stop alt tabbing while i na middle of the conversation, becasue it freezes the game up, every freaking time >_>

I thought if you did the hot labs first that all the scientists and the cure quest would disappear? :/

maybe it depends on which way you take to the hot labs?  out of curiosity, just now I tried to go through restricted area, hacked the door and ended up fighting a whole bunch of security

its been some time since my very first playthrough, but I think I just took the outside elevator thingie by the blockade where you meet the captain and I may have had a confrontation with the captain first and charmed him into letting me go on anyways.  but I remember killing Benezia, saving the queen and then realizing that I wasn't done on noveria and there's stuff to still do on a station...that was weird to do in that order, so I've never done it that way again O_O

strangly I didn't pay attention to voice changes either before...hmm.

Yeah, Rift Station is an odd place, I get the feeling there might've been cut content or it was confusing to design with the whole multiple-route thing. I assumed that all the scientists having disappeared meant they'd been killed by Benezia and the guards.

On a side-note if you go down the elevator after killing Ventralis you can get a cool scene where you save Han Olar from being shot by an Asari ^_^

Hmmm, guess I got something new to try on this playthrough:wizard:

Also, after you've dealt with Benezia, you can't go back to check on everyone. You're pretty much stuck just buggering off and leaving those poor people there.

I don't know about mutliple voice actors (doubtful), but I'll just say that Rift Station and Peak 15 in general just seems so random and all over the place. Took me at least five playthrough's to figure out what I think is the best way to do it. Here is my post from AwesomeName's thread a few days ago:

Hey AN! How is it going? ^^

This is an interesting question, although I can't say I have a readily made answer, but I will try.

It's been a while since my last ME1 playthrough, so I may not be remembering everything sufficiently, but here goes:

> Talk to Ventralis
> Talk to everyone in rift station
> Make cure
> Give cure to the doctor
> Speak to Olar
> "Sneak in" into Benezia's household (that is to say, without altering the guards)
> Deal with Benezia and the Rachni queen
> Go to the hot labs
> End mission

This is how it happened on my canon, perfect ME1 playthrough. As you can see, I left the hot labs for last. There was a reason for this, like I had to, but I can't quite remember what led me to leave it for last. Also, by following this algorithm, Ventralis actually survives, since you avoid the confrontation with him.

I don't know about that. I never noticed any change in his voice, but, that wouldn't surprise me because I saw the same happening in DA:O.

you know its weird, because I'm pretty sure I did go back to rifts station after benezia, but I think instead of actually heading down, I hacked the elevator on the train platform to get to the hotlabs.

my final outline for the best flow/makes sense in both story and level progression is basically the same as yours Fiery Phoenix. that area is pretty random though - reminded me of resident evil, the movie a little bit, just with bugs instead of zombies :P

My Shepards are usual homicidal maniacs and try to kill everyone possible, whether playing paragon/renegade or anything in between. In this case, I'll make the cure and etc., but I'll go to the hot labs right before Benezia so Ventralis and co will attack due to Benezia's orders. That way feels a bit better than going through the restricted area and turning the guards hostile due to the dialogue with Ventralis.

It is also the best way to max out XP.

There is also the possiblity that it's just a sound bug like Chellick and his helium mods. Posted Image

Also Ventralis tries to kill you when you come back from the Hot Labs because the Rachni failed to do it. Which is why he sent you there to begin with. He never intended you to find Benezia there.

Chellick:police:

Never follow orders from people about to shoot at you in the first place.... Hey it happen a lot in ME1 isn't it ?

Ventralis, Lizbeth, Simon Atwell,... Why is everybody angry at Shepard in ME1 ? :?

Lizbeth and Simon was (un)friendly fire. They thought you were someone/thing else.

Yeah, they shoot first, ask questions later.

I do like how Shepard takes the shot from Simon and shrugs it off like it's nothing. Too bad there's not an option to shoot back and ask, "How did that feel?"

I recall reading on the old forums once that Ventralis was originally a female turian.

Anyway, I kind of liked the guy. That was part of why I distrusted him a little. I think it's a shame though that there is no conversation with him when he attacks you (I mean you don't get to respond). It would have been nice to have the option to try and talk him down.

I also like how Ventralis is completely bald. I wonder how they didn't have that option for Shepard.

so yeah, I replayed it today with going for hot labs first and I think the only reason I remembered it as having some stuff to do in Rift station was because Han Olar survives. guess it really been a while :P

Dude your 100% right on. I was so sure it was two separate people voicing him that I did a Google search before I even finished the conversation with him. This topic popped up quickly enough.

Happened to me as well. I was experimenting with the viewmode (cause of my AMD black boxes on Noveria/Ilos) and actually had paid more attention to the sound...Whoever mentioned Meer, was right on target! One line is by Meer, the other by (whatever actor officially did it).
My theory is, there's more than one voice recording for the line, and the game didn't know which one to play.
