Hi I'm making an arena type mod with an evil side of monsters in the stands and humans in the other, how do I make these audience members not be targeted by hirelings or monsters fighting in the arena?

Create a neutral faction that is 50 to every other faction and 100 to itself. Then put everyone in the stands into that faction.

Keep in mind though that a neutral faction can be melee/ranged attacked, so a player in the arena could shoot at them if they wanted. You might want to set the 'immortal' flag on the spectators to be on the safe side.
