Huh.  I'm a female IRL and I didn't pause for a second when choosing a male.  You know why?  Because I "auditioned" the VA's from YouTube videos of ME1 and preferred the male's performance *by far.*  And just to give you an idea of how far *by far* is...my best friend of 21 years was completely blown away when I went male, because I *always* go female when I can...even in fighting games. 

I love strong female characters, but Hale didn't convince me that she was Shepard...Meer convinced me that he was.
