The Ultimate Vanguard: Nightmare Demo Final Boss (choose 1080p)

While pausing and issuing orders one at a time is a great way to play, this thread is for those people who love the added challenge of making split second decisions and being rewarded for optimal player control. Sign here if you will attempt a nightmare run with no pausing, and explain how you plan to accomplish it!

My run:

Sabre Hawke: Primary tank and damage dealer using 2 Handed, Vanguard, Battlemaster, Reaver/Berserker
Anders: Support healer, buffer, cross class combo support
Varric:  DPS, aggro control, crowd control
Sebastian: DPS, aggro control, crowd control

Sabre Hawke is a very elusive tank that uses burst fighting to drop enemies and escape before they can retaliate. Anders will be supporting with heals and auras, as well as providing cross class combo synergy. The two rogue archers will control the parties aggro with goad and armistice, crowd control when needed, and snipe out enemy archers and mages.

This sounds like a recipe for no fun at all. For me, of course. If that's what gets you your jollies, then go ahead. But I get gratification from planning my encounters and then seeing my tactics unfold.

hmm I'd give myself ten minutes before I bite the dust so often the controller would be in danger of meeting my TV

Well, considering I dont know much about the game yet, Im only assuming that this playthrough is possible. If it is, I might put up some youtube videos for fun like I did with mass effect 2.

While we're at it, lets make it a rougelike and have it delete your save if the whole party ever dies at once.

Hey, make it a real challenge. Nightmare, no pausing, and no switching characters -- everyone but Hawke runs on Tactics

If i were you i woulmd go with one tank(let's go with Aveline since she's S&S warrior),Hawke as DPS warrior(two handed)a healer(anyone of the mages can do the job) and either a third warrior or a rogue(an archer would fit better imo).

Or, an even greater challenge.. nightmare, no pausing, no switching characters and with the monitor off, only sounds to lead you through..

You should of course be working toward that Unstoppable achievement. NONE OF YOUR COMPANIONS MAY DIE!

Would this include the automatic pause that comes when you target AoE attacks? Or can that be switched off?

That sounds like a console-only feature.  Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Yeah you're right actualy, I never noticed they were different before. Wonder what what prompted that design disision.

I will do it after I have played through it on nightmare once with pausing, so I can have a better story experience.

Signed.

I do recall the Devs saying that even with good DPS, there were normal non-boss mobs that could prove a threat to the entire party by themselves on Nightmare mode. The dev said a lot of the time they'd get into an encounter where they would die slowly and painfully because they couldn't put out enough DPS on the mob as it whittled them down.

As much as I know it will anger me to no end I'll probably try it purely out of curiosity.

Very cool idea, I'll happily give it a shot. Here's hoping the tactics system gives enough control to make this possible.

Lol when i first read this I thought "LOL! F' That!!" I beat origins a few times on Nightmare but idk if I could do it without pausing.. no way can I even be bothered anyway. Nightmare in DA2 is seemingly harder than Nightmare in origins though.
